      Great video again STL. I reckon I’m a bit old for that area and prefer the quiet more authentic side of Bali. I read the articles on digital nomad havens and it is my belief that they are probably good places to live and work but not for a holiday to experience the local culture. It is great to see a lot of young people having a fantastic time and contributing to the local economy. Cheers.

    I totally agree digital nomads are ruining Bali. I refuse to visit westernized places, I stick to supporting the locals, eating at street stall, markets and warungs, unlike so many digital nomads and Europeans that have invaded Canggu. I am only staying 1 night in Canggu, just to say I've stayed there, as I know that all the Europeans and digital nomads there, all the BS yoga places, westernized gyms, gym junkies and bum floss ugly butts is going to make me want to leave that area lol

      Hi Kate. To be fair, so far I've just hit the 'main' beaches and usually at sunset when it's busier. So it's a bit like filming Pationg Beach in Phuket at sunset and thinking all of Phuket is like this when of course it's not. So, upcoming in this series I promise you'll see some truly amazing and even idyllic beaches, stay tuned... STL

      Been in Bali for a couple months now and it really depends on the area for how busy it is. That said, tourism is absolutely back and people are flocking in. Even though it is now in rainy season things are pretty packed. Having spoken with a number of locals who run accommodations here, they have seen a huge influx of Russian and Ukrainian peoples fleeing the war and military service as well as the typical high numbers of Australians.

    3 problems I see: 1) The traffic alone would keep me from ever driving there, and perhaps not even going there. 2) Damn, that traffic is ridiculous--nobody seems happy at all. 3), nope, can't do that kind of traffic and constant frustration trying to get around. No thanks. Did I mention the traffic is a problem there?

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  2 роки тому +2

      lol! But to be fair, 'the cut' bit is only a short stretch which everyone uses (and literally a short-cut thru rice fields). Thus that stretch in particular can get jammed especially at peak times (ie: heading to the beach or dinner at sunset as I was). STL

    I may have recently turned 50, though I certainly don't feel it, but even in my 20's or 30's that beach club at the end, is so not my scene at all.
    Echoing another comment here by @freelancekate I was expecting something very different from Canggu.
    I had seen footage of the cut through, the single lane through a vast expanse of rice fields, and not only does it look unrecognisable with all the building, but as you showed, it looks much worse as a result too.
    Even though I am a (ageing) digital nomad (ish), I've been working online for 10 years now, it pains me to see the effects of an over concentration in one area, and also the impact on the local business diversity. It just didn't give off the feeling of a holiday location. Can't quite put my thumb on what it was exactly, but looked like a lot of people likely to be overly focussed on being seen in the right places, wearing the right hipster clothes and so on....Is there such a thing as digital nomad snobbery?
    Fair to say, I've crossed Canggu off my list of potential places to spend time in. I'd much rather somewhere less hectic, where the locals outnumber the visitors, nomads and expats. Just not interested in co-working spaces, hipster coffee places, and boutique shops. I want local restaurants, traditional shops, and village life I guess.
