How To Frame A Door

- It can sometimes be challenging to remember exactly how to frame a door. This video is intended to be a quick reminder on where and why we have certain measurements for framing a rough door opening. This video is not intended for novice installers as I have tried to keep the duration at a minimum. If I were to make this video over again, I would have left the footer board installed until after I had finished framing the door. I would have also used a level although it wasn't necessary in this case because I had marked out where to nail the door so that it was square. If you use the same measurements on all sides and the door will nail square then you don't technically need a level.

a very well explained video, thank you so much for that!!!
thank you for this... exactly what I needed to know!!
fabulous and you got 'er done!!
Overall a good and useful video but... 1. Why didn't you build a wall with the opening and slide it into place? 2. I would have put a level on the sides of the top of the opening to be sure it was true 3. I thought the top of the opening was framed with the wood running perpendicular to the studs below, meaning the 2x4s or 2x6s face you, not down.
No level in framing ???
It's straight pieces of wood and sometimes, most of the time you only mee to know where the bottom and top post are.
He said he marked the lines. If he knows he measured well and marked crisp, the frame should go where it belongs.
Excellent!!!
You frame fast! Good vid
No cripple studs above the header?
True
Dude this guys awesome
was this supposed to be a speed run?
Thank you for sharing. I know that you want to go quickly for the video, but you were pretty shaky with the gun. Especially when you were pointing it at your friends face to nail the top of the frame. Keep making videos, and we will watch them. Even if they are a bit slower, and more safe.
I saw a spark on the floor I thought the nail or gun hit the concrete floor.
What tool is dat
Standard is 80 in a 1/2
What goes on next?
I would say, if you’re gonna spend your time making a video about framing interior doors, keep it “I’m talking to an amateur diy’er” simple; and they you want them to not screw up the things most people screw up.
For instance, the frame opening needs to be 2 inches wider than the measurement of the actual door width and height. That’s a very general and simple statement that doesn’t confuse anyone.
I was lost right after you explained the width and height mystery measurements.
We can see you’re really smart and very good at what you do. However, you just explained how to frame a door to a novice you just hired and are trying to get him/her up to speed; and assuming they have done General framing before. Not the brave DIYer that goes to UA-cam to get a simplified set of instructions.
I watched the video cause it was good to just to see another person frame a door opening. Didn’t pay attention to the instructions, cause they were so vague.
Thanks for the upload. Great video! 👍🏽
This is a good one, 2" wider and 2.5" higher www.finehomebuilding.com/2016/09/30/frame-door-opening
As an amateur, I took a lot from this video 👍🏼
Thank you. This info helps too! Man someone is trying to charge me 200 to do this if I buy the materials. I was like fuck, 200 for like 5mins of work lol. I'm going to try and do it myself. the lumber is only a few bucks.
@@Lilmiket1000 do it yourself, this stuff is easy!!
Eric S. Thank you. Great video. I needed it.
Are the sill plates pressure treated?
They're supposed to be pressure treated.
Yes
2x4's should not lay flat for a header. I would sandwich a peace of 1/2" plywood between two 2x4's and stand on side.
Not very safe, nails hitting the concrete and producing sparks.
Overconfidence leads to accidents.
That's from the nail gun not the concrete.
Time is money pal
@@XXtrickShottingBossXX this is why it's better to do stuff like this yourself instead of hiring a contractor to rush through it.
Yeah I'm seeing a lot of "good enough" here. My ocd is going nuts. If this guy framed a house you would need a mud guy to come in and go nuts to make walls appear straight.
Layoff the Red Bulls.
Dude are you a Marine... definitely move with a sense of urgency and get things done. God bless 🇺🇸
All over the place
Yo
Man, I hate seeing toe nailed 2x4s
Construccion
English, please.
Brian V. I know, it’s a tough one to decipher...but I’m pretty sure it means “Construction” in English
Whos the russian.
Hope the wall was leveled before u installed the frame 🤔
Slow down, you're explaining things way to quickly for a novice to comprehend. Because it makes sense to you does not automaticly make it sensible to another... Just saying....
You can slow it down and pause it
@@krisring3945 I think the point is that experienced/professional framers aren't going to be watching instructional videos.
yeah - fast doesn't equal quality ......nailing boards that are not backed or supported - sliding on the concrete floor left and right ? hilarious ! crappy fast american job , and judging by the spark on the left side header you know that quick nailing hit the concrete floor - wood doesn't give sparks :-)
Basically the entire comment section is know it alls. Why you watching the video then?!
You are unprofessional working too fast and sloppy making more errors than I could count
good vid without the fancy bull. u should have a patriot account so people can donate
I will consider it. I’ve been thinking about posting more. Soon to come. Thanks for all of your support.
A lot of talking
This guy thinks he's cool lol
