Reminds me of the Sara Tucholsky. She tore her ACL hitting her first career homerun, and like this story, the opposing team carried her around the infield, allowing her to touch each base. Pretty damn cool moment.
This kind of evolved moment in the culture within which it happened is rare. I can't think of a more appropriate way to have handled this for all involved.
I think if she was a good team mate her sense of wanting to ensure she touched every base would overpower her need to be in the dugout. Playing team sports you often times find yourself becoming a part of something so much bigger than yourself. And even if other players or coaches had said "girl you need to get to the dugout right now." She wouldnt care about self preservation, all she would care about is not letting her team down, as crazy a thought as that would be in that moment.
