11:53 "Husserl" into "Hustler" has to be the best metathesis I've ever heard.
"I'm reading Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and also Hustler... Phenomenology is one of my favorite fields."

Diego loves this podcast, glad to hear him here. I cross between all of your guy's content and it's so nice. Anyway, I got the vibe that Diego might not be invited again haha but who am I to state such things.

The thing that prevents the communist party from doing bad things in China is called philosophical training and also democracy. I am speechless about Victor.

Boom… “You are going to own nothing and you gonna love it” a nightmare coming true, property is the real discussion.

One of the only books of theory I've read so far was related to the question of what subjectivities become possible sans capitalism: Marcuse's Eros and Civilization. Dunno if it'd convince Victor but it does get into some of the "human nature" arguments via Freud.

Someone explain to me what they mean about material conditions coming before subjectivity. Sure, the material conditions create idk, the consumerist subjectivity or whatever but don't those things also reproduce the capitalist base? Diego says that's why he wants to talk about property but that's targeting subjectivity, right? Isn't getting rid of false consciousness necessary to seize to means of production if you believe something like that is even possible? I mean you won't do that alone, you need to organize with other people. And it seems increasingly unlikely that the material conditions capitalism creates lead to any kind of commie/leftist/liberatory consciousness. In some people sure but at least where I'm from, the common wagie and normie are swerving to the right and pretty hard, partly imo bc of the more comforting narrative and skillful rhetoric. Also can't ideology have material consequences? Why else would all these right wing think tanks and "intellectuals" spend so much money and energy on spreading their cancer? I'm not saying ideas come before material change necessarily, seems like more of a chicken and egg type of situation. I'm not married to that idea but I'm just not convinced ideas don't matter *at all*.

Lovely guy, and a pleasant talking partner, but not very interesting and a bunch of his takes are simply shallow and uninformed. I mean not harm, I see most in the comments seem to like him, this is simply my opinion. I would not mind him and his experiences on a 'Podcast with our Listeners' or something but the level of this discussion is just not on par with the other ones.

I don't think he said they have the best model but that between the American model and the Chinese one he takes the Chinese. I also don't think he is blind to the problems the Chinese system have
