Butane can be bought at numerous stores, you will definitely find it in any consumer electronic store. You need a steel, brass or copper tube with a outer diameter of 5mm and a inner diameter of 3mm.

hey i want to make this flamethrower but i have two questions.will the nichrome wire really light from the gas dont you need a flame for it to light not a hot piece of metal?and also does butane gas work well?bec hairspray diddnt when i tried it with my nichrome wire lighter. plz respond soon thx

RCLifeOn Yes, it's the most common material used for building but others also use stainless steel coils or even nickel ones

Yeah sure, but the gauge depends on the battery you will be using. However, 24-28 gauge should work just fine.

RCLifeOn Oh thanks! Do you have any protection circuit for the batteries? I have heard LiPo's explode when you draw too much current (I mean the kanthal wire draws arround 8 amps I think)
A small coil of kanthal will only use a couple of amps to heat up. The standard 2200mAh 3S can often suppply up to 50A of current continously. I use a battery cell spy (voltage checker) to monitor each cell. Search for "lipo cell spy" and you will see what I'm talking about.
