In my bible pink is All about God, Blue is prayer, orange is Holy Spirit, presence of God,prophecy, gift of Holy Spirit, visions etc, green is praise, thanks to God, purple is identity in Christ, brown is sin and the works of devil, yellow is promises, and all GOD gives us, red is commandments
CG ML I like your breakdown. I’m currently studying on God’s toning and waiting on the Lord. I’m having a hard time deciding if that needs to be its own category or if it fits in with another established category. Any advice?
I color code my table of contents. Law, history, poetry, major prophets, minor prophets, gospel, history of the church, Paul’s letters to churches, Paul’s letters to individuals, & general letters. This way I can look at my table of contents and see what I want to read about that day. ❤️
I added some colors and some words for myself: • UNDERLINE/ARROWS - Commentary; Word Definition; Verses to apply to my life; ones to save and listen to for later; to guide me. • GREY - Heaven & Earth; Creation. • PINK - Family, Marriage, Parenting, Friendship, Relationships, Church. • PURPLE - Blessings, Promises, Miracles, Salvation, Mercy, Forgiveness, Love, Gifts of God. • BLUE/DARK BLUE - Location/Place & Description | Person description, relation, descendance. • TEAL/BLUEGREEN - God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, Jesus, The Messiah, The Savior, Lord, Attributes of God. • AQUA MARINE/LIGHTBLUE - Law, Covenant, Oaths, Christian Living, Character, Faith & Trust in God • GREEN - Wisdom, Instruction, teaching, obedience. • YELLOW - Prayer, Worship, Thanksgiving, Praise, Talking to God. • ORANGE - Prophecy, Dreams, Visions, Future, Times. • RED - Sin, Death, Idolatry, False Teachings/Teachers, doubt, deceit, disobedience, devil, hypocrisy, temptation, foolishness, evil, the wicked. • BROWN - God's Rebuke, Displeasure; Justice. Lemme know what u think and what you would add, take away or move!😉Btw..this was the best study color coding video yet, havent been able to find one better!❤
I loved this video. It's been so helpful. Thank you so much! I was a bit sad to see that sin and everything bad was brown. I tried to teach my children that brown is beautiful, that's why people bathe in the sun. Brown sugar is sweeter than white. Brown is warm instead of cold and so on... I wished Brown and black stopped being associated with the negative. To me, sin is red. Fire, warning. stay away, dangerous, poisonous etc 😅... all in all, thank you so much! Really helpful!
I am about a year late, but this has been sooooo helpful! I grew up in church but have just recently decided to truly dive into the word, and I realize I have always been afraid of even writing into the bible. 😊
I'm so happy you didn't fast forward the video and just took your time! Thanks, I plan to use this system as I will be reading my Bible more this year.
🎨 I love your color coding system and how you explain it with simplicity. I use a similar method for 📖 study and my🙏 journal. I use, yellow highlighters for family and relationships, pink for all things female related, purple for prophesy, different shades of green for financial, healing, and wisdom passages, etc. TFS 💖
You put this out last year but I found it at the "right" time. I have been struggling to decide how to mark my newest Bible. I did not like the limitations of the more basic suggestions. I love how you use many colors and your divisions make sense to me. The only change I will make is with the yellow. I have already started using it to underline things I like, any thing I like. My thought behind this, is that I can use another color over the verse when I decided how to classify my Bible. Thank you for this series.
This is so cool, I love the fact that everyone has a different color code and they apply and understand why I should have that color. Thank you for sharing yours.
I have a system of symbols and color coding that I've been using, but I think I like the simplicity of highlighting for certain topics. I am going to do a review of my system, and add some of your ideas along with another person's ideas I saw in another video. Thank you so much for sharing this. You have a great system set up.
I really loved this video!! I am a huge fan of your organizational skills! I'm very new to faith and am looking to start studying the Bible & Bible Journaling. However, I'm super picky about organization so I'm doing tons of research before even starting to mark in my Bible. I just found your channel and so far, I've watched like 5 of your videos back to back lol I'll be saving this video along with others to use as a reference. So thank you so much for sharing all of this information with us!!
For me, I rarely highlight because I feel like words and verses can mean more than one thing and I also feel like it takes over the page too much. I use pigma micron pens to underline and circle words and also take notes with colored pens so the notes are easy to figure out what I'm writing about. Pretty much the only time I highlight is if there is a repetition that is essential and I want it to stand out because it is really important to notice. My color code is as follows: Red - GOD, JESUS, HOLY SPIRIT; Characteristics of Pink - (we want to be like God so...) this is who we are in Christ; Christian living Orange - (a color that wants to be red but isn't) this is satan, evil, sin, temptation, consequences Blue - GOD's law ( Purple - Faith, Salvation, Covenant Green - Doctrine, Clarifications, Strongs dictionary Brown - Sanctuary, Heaven, BIBLE Yellow - Prophecies of JESUS
(Two years later...) I was going to try doing the Inductive study method, but that is Way Too Fussy for my brain to handle. I did really well before with my highlighters, so I was looking to get back into that route. But, like you said, it's amazing what you come across in there, and I definitely needed a better breakdown for what represented what. I found this video a couple of months ago actually and came back around to it this morning. I tweaked it a bit for my own preference, but the core items are the same. All that to say, Thank you! I really needed this. ;)
Thank you so much Elyssa! I'd love to see your system in practice. Right now I color block portions (no particular order) of Scripture as I read and then journal in my Bible about what's in those blocks of color. It is a slow....very sloooooooow..... process which I am loving but I also love what you're doing. Maybe a second journaling Bible for this kind of color coding is in order. A different way to look at Scripture. Again, thank you! I am truly enjoying this teaching!!
This popped up on my feed today. I don't normally watch 29 minute videos but your video was so good that the 29 minutes flew by and I was still wanting more when the video ended. I can relate to being particular. I think I'm a bit afraid of creating a highlighting system because I might want to always change it. I may try using yours for now. Thank you. Sharon
Í have to agree with Richaell! I've been looking at Bible color codes and none of them seemed a fit for me. Yours is fantastic!!! I will give this one a try! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for all the ideas with color coding. I really had no idea where to begin before watching this videos. Luckily, I didn't get too far into my Bible study before I found out your color system. Thanks!
For me personally, I would solve that problem by doing either of these ways... 1.) I would highlight the verse by each word rather than highlighting the ENTIRE verse one color. because If you feel that the verse should be two or more colors, then it just means there are different words and meanings in that ones sentence that can be highlighted different colors. So take the verse into smaller chunks and highlight from there. :) 2.) OR, choose to highlight it the color that it corresponds to the MOST based off of its personal impact on YOU and what you feel it most likely corresponds with when you apply it to your life: in what way (color) does it teach/inform you? 3.) Do #2 but write an arrow to the side, when you make some commentary about what the verse means and how you can apply it to your life...you can ALSO write out each of the multiple colors that it corresponds with to remind you when you look back at it. I hope this helps😉
You can also make the highlighting thinner or just use it as an underlining to enable more space for one or two more colors. But for me personally..that kinda gets annoying.
Thank you for sharing. I’m have been coming up with my color code key for the last few weeks. You have given me a few more ideas. I’m looking forward to the FB group and scripture writing.
Wonderful video and excellent suggestions for making Bible study more beautiful. Have you come across a good set of symbols for notetaking in the Bible, such as triangles for trinity references? Thanks for the video!
OMG Elyssa!!! I ❤ this video. I'm sitting here thinking that we're clones. My favorite color is purple too! But I'm laughing because when you mention the simple coding systems and that you just had to go extra... That is me too. Your preciseness and organization is really good. You sound like me. It's so fun to sit here and listen to you.😂 Thank you for this and I'm very glad that your Bible study project came in my feed. I've been looking at some of the other popular Ladies and I'm glad yours came up!
Proverbs also teaches about parenting to in a way cuz it talks about correction and discipline with kids. I like your colorcoding system. Im currently reading the book of John.
A couple colors that I want to implement: Black is for application, which is anything that I see as a direct relation to something that’s going on in my life and blue is for cross references, which is when I notice a cross reference as I’m reading. I also keep a list of these at the front of my Bible. I also like to write any notes that I’m writing about a verse in my Bible in the color as well.
Excellent way to mark content . I have always wanted to mark mostly what I need to help a non believer know Jesus. When they want me to show them why I believe and why I am convinced that Jesus is as real as you or me. Thank you for making this very helpful video.
I just love you Elyssa! As I listened, I kept saying, "Man this chick is so much like me." From the obsession with pens/markers to sounding out words as you go, and i before e, except after c. I'm so glad I found your channel and look forward to watching more as I embark on color coding my bible study. I'm a planner junkie too. It's as if you are my "spirit animal." :) So grateful for your videos!
I color code my bible too..mine goes pink, purple, blue, green, orange, yellow. So I start w gen being pink, exodus being purple n so on and so on. I love the ink joy pens too...just to jot notes on the side
In my bible it does not cross reference verses. What can I use to cross reference? Sorry I just found you and out of all the other videos I watched yours was far less confusing. I was able to follow you and understand how to verse map. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and teach us. You are a blessing.
I gave up on colour coding a bit over a year ago (it's just not for me). I just use black pen. I also use brown oxidised ink, for creating antique looking paper. I mostly like verse mapping, I love to figure out what a word truly means. I usually have an introduction paper at the start of each Book e.g; wisdom for Proverbs, etc... But, I love seeing other's with all the pretty colours in their Bibles (fyi! I love the colour brown 😊).
I really loved your video! Thank you for taking the time to share with us. I'm happy with the color code I've been using for decades, however you gave me some ideas. I have a new Bible coming, and I might switch things up a little. I do have 2 thoughts for you. I have colors for Faith and Grace. I won't confuse things here with my own colors, but I thought perhaps you might want to consider if you want to add them. God bless!
HI Elyssa, I've just discovered your channel and I'm loving it! Do you have a video that shows how you use the color code in your Bible, not a journal? Thanks for sharing!
Love this! 💕 Patiently (or not so patiently) waiting for my local office supply store to restock the ink joy gel pens because I also was obsessed with my Pilot G-2 and had the same problem with the smudging 🙃
Just a suggestion, I would put a bit of washi on the mildliners to show which are part of the colour code. Just so you don't have to keep asking, is this the one? ☺️ If you have different colour codes (like one in your bible and one in your planner) you can use different washis 🙂
I have to agree. Mark what works for you, and to anyone starting a bible study for the first time, YOU WILL GO BACK AND REREAD THINGS! You will go back and add to your bible, and you may think that it looks "bad" because it's not as perfect as your bible grows into. It will not be perfect for you from the start. It grows with you. Don't even get me started on my proverbs section of my Bible where I started! LOL!
Thank you so much, this is extremely helpful! Do you know that the mild-liners have two ends, a fine and a chisel? So you could use the fine tips for underlining 😊
Underline or highlight something that especially stands out or ministers to you, that you may want to easily find again. Or, you may not ever want to mark anything. I find circling the verse number to be just as effective as underlining or highlighting. Hope this helps.
I would add forgiveness and grace it could go with your purple code I guess.. great video and the way you put those together I might use your ideas! Thank you. Do you have any picture codes? I’m planning on buying new Bible the ESV topaz reference by Cambridge, however not sure if the pages are not too thin for the mild liners and gel pens.. 🤔😬 I really want to start highlighting and do proper studies.
QUESTION: This is my first time watching you, and I'm very interested. Do you always start with a new clean Bible? My favorite (right now) is already marked up with colors....just randomly, so........... sounds fun.... (I'm nerdy too, but not organized like you are). Thank you!!
Good morning Elyssa ! I'm a French guy who just discovered your color code and I think it's great ! It's been several weeks that I've been looking for without finding satisfaction. Thanks a lot ! I tried to start a few days ago and I was wondering... What color would you color the genealogies ? In pink (family, relatives ...) ? Or would you use something else ?
Thanks for sharing!! Do you have a photo of the color guide card you just created in this video? I'm getting my first journaling bible next week, and I'm excited for it to arrive, and then to get the supplies (those midliner highlighters and then the ink joy gel pens) in the future. I have some Staedtler triplus fineliners in multiple colors, so I'll start with those. Also loving your handwriting! I'm hoping to become much better and even neater at my writing through this process and studying.
Just what I was looking for. Thanks a million! Quick question, what camera did you use for your video looking down your desk, and where did you get you coloring case? The link does not work. Thanks Elyssa..
This is a great starting point! I don’t like carrying so many pens around with me, and I do keep my Bible in the car most often but I took this kind of coding as a jumping off point. I tried one with more colors But I found that I was looking back at my key more than actually studying to try to figure out why I highlighted when looking back, so I sort of lumped these categories together. Thanks for the tips :)
Oh yes I experienced the same thing - constantly referring to the key until I got more familiar with it :P. Color coding is so much about how your brain wants to engage with the text and color, etc.. Takes some trial and error sometimes to find the best system for you. Glad to help!! :D
Question - With so many colors, do you find that you've colored every verse in the bible? Also, do you underline and mark with the same topics? For example, do you highlight family topics with pink AND underline family topics with the pink?
No, I don’t highlight every verse. Sometimes I’m in a passage and only one color fits what I’m reading. And no I don’t mark and underline in one color. What I have done is do double colors. So let’s say a verse could fit more than one category. I’ll do thin line in both colors or mark with one broad color and underline with one thin color. There’s no strict method, just how I feel I want to mark it 😊
I'm enjoying this new series. You're videos are very helpful. What do you do when your Bible study time becomes boring or when you don't enjoy doing it?
I'm glad they're helping! It's funny you should ask because I plan on doing a video about that subject in the near future! A quick answer would be to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you want to read/study. And then look for ways to maybe change up your method or the place you study or something like that. Be patient and gracious with yourself because Bible study is a learned practice/habit and takes time to cultivate. I'm still struggling to cultivate it myself!!
Question... Why don't you just use the fine point of the mildliners for underlining so that you don't have to go back and forth between different pens/markers?
How did you come up with this particular color-coding system? I’ve used one from Women Living Well before but it’s pretty intense. I think I’d like to try yours maybe.
I am new at this and don't have a clue of what you guys are doing. I just ordered a Bible with pages to colour and would have to get into how you mark it up. Do you start at the beginning of the bible.
Any advice?
Thank you for sharing your color coding sys6
I really like this, thank you for sharing!!
I love this so much! I just started reading the Bible and want to color code! Ty for sharing!
@@hannajean8204 Color coding can help others get into the Bible. If you don’t think it matters than don’t do it. God bless you.
I color code my table of contents. Law, history, poetry, major prophets, minor prophets, gospel, history of the church, Paul’s letters to churches, Paul’s letters to individuals, & general letters. This way I can look at my table of contents and see what I want to read about that day. ❤️
I added some colors and some words for myself:
• UNDERLINE/ARROWS - Commentary; Word Definition; Verses to apply to my life; ones to save and listen to for later; to guide me.
• GREY - Heaven & Earth; Creation.
• PINK - Family, Marriage, Parenting, Friendship, Relationships, Church.
• PURPLE - Blessings, Promises, Miracles, Salvation, Mercy, Forgiveness, Love, Gifts of God.
• BLUE/DARK BLUE - Location/Place & Description | Person description, relation, descendance.

Lemme know what u think and what you would add, take away or move!😉Btw..this was the best study color coding video yet, havent been able to find one better!❤
I really like this.. I use 6 colors
But I want to add a color for dreams and visions.. 🥰
Oh! And I love the idea of highlighting heaven, creation and earth 😍
I love this, it is divided perfectly. I however want to see it in use. I am dying to get started but unsure how.
I've started by just reading and thinking after each verse "do I want to colour it?" And the "which color goes with it?"
I really enjoyed this and I started making my own color codes as you explained your system 👍🏾
Probably start from genesis

Hi good day, is it possible to see inside a bible with system in use
Color pencils work great with thin Bible pages. And I prefer a Fine or Ultra Fine pen over a medium point.
Thanks Elyssa! Praying that everything goes your way to spread the word, Fabulous news ahead!
You put a lot of thought into this - thanks for sharing. Appreciate your insight.

Thanks!
I have a question about how you handle one area, if a verse fits in more than one category, and you want to show that, what did you decide to do?
I would circle the verse number if it has more than one color corresponding to it
For me personally, I would solve that problem by doing either of these ways...
1.) You can also make the highlighting thinner or just use it as an underlining to enable more space for one or two more colors. But for me personally..that kinda gets annoying.
I like the way your color coding, I’ll surely follow this , thank you sooo much
Very interesting and doable project. Thanks for sharing
A very logical system, and easy to implement without a lot of fuss. Great effort and result!!
Thank you very much!!!
So happy to help!

Yes, parenting is definitely a theme you can pull from Proverbs! 😁
I am new to studying the Bible and this has been the most helpful video I’ve watch thank you so much.
A couple colors that I want to implement: Black is for application, which is anything that I see as a direct relation to something that’s going on in my life and blue is for cross references, which is when I notice a cross reference as I’m reading. I also keep a list of these at the front of my Bible. I also like to write any notes that I’m writing about a verse in my Bible in the color as well.

heleninspace are you highlighting just when the word is mentioned? I like that...faith and grace. Or displays of faith and grace? Or both?
Love your videos. This is well done !!! Really enjoyed watching.
I really enjoyed how you went through that. It will be easy to apply to my studies. thank you for sharing.
This is great thankyou!! I'm a beginner in my adult life. And am trying to find resources to help me and this is great! Thankyou!
HI Elyssa, I've just discovered your channel and I'm loving it! Do you have a video that shows how you use the color code in your Bible, not a journal? Thanks for sharing!
I haven't done one yet but I will be soon!
Thank you so very much for this. I am just getting started with a new bible and plan to implement this is perfect.
I'm really enjoying you Bible Study project. I just watched all the videos and I'm subscribed and watching for notifications
Wow, praise God this has been a big help to me, may God bless you
Love this! 💕 Patiently (or not so patiently) waiting for my local office supply store to restock the ink joy gel pens because I also was obsessed with my Pilot G-2 and had the same problem with the smudging 🙃
Thank you for great tutorial. You mix small and capital letters? Interesting!
Yes I do. It’s kinda weird but it’s something I started playing with years ago and it stuck 🤪
Brown is one of my favorite colors! Lol :( If there's a light grey, I will swap that out.
me too i love brown. It matches my skin so it pains me to associate it with the devil and sin lol. Maybe dark green or grey.
I really love this video and color coding. I believe this will work for me !!!!
I now underline in red, green if it is a question, yellow to underline scripture name.
Thank you so much for your color system! I really enjoy all your videos. 💜
Thank you for Sharing this was very helpful have a wonderful day!
Just a suggestion, I would put a bit of washi on the mildliners to show which are part of the colour code. Just so you don't have to keep asking, is this the one? ☺️
If you have different colour codes (like one in your bible and one in your planner) you can use different washis 🙂
Thank you for the suggestion!!
LOL!
Thanks for making this video. This helped a lot
Thank you so much, this is extremely helpful! Do you know that the mild-liners have two ends, a fine and a chisel? So you could use the fine tips for underlining 😊
I started doing some bible studying on proverbs and the word wisdom in particular
How do u know what to underline and what to highlight?
Underline or highlight something that especially stands out or ministers to you, that you may want to easily find again. Or, you may not ever want to mark anything. I find circling the verse number to be just as effective as underlining or highlighting. Hope this helps.
@@oldblackstock2499 thank you!
You should also do hand and nail modeling. You have beautiful nails!
Please keep it up, your a great teacher!!!
QUESTION: This is my first time watching you, and I'm very interested. Do you always start with a new clean Bible? My favorite (right now) is already marked up with colors....just randomly, so........... sounds fun.... (I'm nerdy too, but not organized like you are). Thank you!!
Thank you for your heart for Jesus , I love your videos. Where did you get your pen bag?
I bought my Bible from Walmart in it it is called COLORS OF FAITH it's a Spanish Bible.
Great handwriting! Love the vid
Love the color code ❤
I use some of those same colors for the same topics. I arbitrarily chose them 6 or so years ago, cool coincidence.
Great video, and very informative. Thank you!
Thank you for the amazing teaching x
Love your video where did you get your pen case from I clicked on link its not working.
Hey blessings can u do a video int he bible how to put those coloring codes please? If u a an NIV bible or any kind
Thanks for sharing was very helpful
Thanks for sharing!! Do you have a photo of the color guide card you just created in this video? I'm getting my first journaling bible next week, and I'm excited for it to arrive, and then to get the supplies (those midliner highlighters and then the ink joy gel pens) in the future. I have some Staedtler triplus fineliners in multiple colors, so I'll start with those. Also loving your handwriting! I'm hoping to become much better and even neater at my writing through this process and studying.
I don't have a photo but I will work on a graphic and put it up on my blog (thanks for the suggestion!). Have fun with your new journaling Bible!! :))
Awesome. I'm here for it.
Great video. Love it! Thanks for sharing.
Where did you purchase the one case. Thanks for sharing
@@Natalie-ne8yc I got it at Hobby Lobby :) Here's the link -- bit.ly/2IG3aFz. I'll throw the link up in the description box too.
@@Natalie-ne8yc I think you meant to ask Elyssa Nalani about the case. You need to type the question on the "Add a public comment " area. Thanks.
Click show more and there's a link where she purchased the case.
From watching this video, I had to subscribe.
Hi!! What a good videos! Could you tell me were did you buy the pen case please?
This was great, thank you.
There’s no strict method, just how I feel I want to mark it 😊
@@ElyssaNalaniTV Wow thank you for replying. So how do you determine whether to mark or underline something?
I'm enjoying this new series. You're videos are very helpful. What do you do when your Bible study time becomes boring or when you don't enjoy doing it?
I'm glad they're helping!
It's funny you should ask because I plan on doing a video about that subject in the near future!
A quick answer would be to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you want to read/study. And then look for ways to maybe change up your method or the place you study or something like that. Be patient and gracious with yourself because Bible study is a learned practice/habit and takes time to cultivate. I'm still struggling to cultivate it myself!!
Love your channel! I’m getting those pens lol
Great categories though, I would have got stuck at a smaller level of detail. I like your broad thinking.
Question... Why don't you just use the fine point of the mildliners for underlining so that you don't have to go back and forth between different pens/markers?
How did you come up with this particular color-coding system? I’ve used one from Women Living Well before but it’s pretty intense. I think I’d like to try yours maybe.
Brilliant video going to start doing this :) do you highlight or underline? Or mix it up?
I mix it up. Depends on what I'm marking. Sometimes, if I'm marking up a lot of text, I'll switch to break up the look of it
This is so very helpful.
I am new at this and don't have a clue of what you guys are doing. I just ordered a Bible with pages to colour and would have to get into how you mark it up. Do you start at the beginning of the bible.
Hey you guys. There's s Bible that has already done this for you. It's called The Rainbow Bible. Check it out!
Good job. Thanks. God bless you.
Thank you for sharing.🥰
Looks very helpful. Can you send your Bible color coding key? Thanks
