Hey y’all! This was a really difficult challenge for me and I’m not as confident as I am with my physical art, but a lot of you digital artists have been so kind and welcoming to me, it’s been amazing. Props to y’all cause this ain’t easy!!! I have gained a crazy amount of respect for digital artists
If her voice lit up from her finding out about the resize feature, imagine how excited she'd be when she finds all the brushes in ibis paint!! XD It would be so cute to hear her be giddy over the flower brushes and every other brush!!
Here's a few critiques: I think some of the planes could have used some more definition (especially the arm pit area), personally I don't really enjoy that much blending as it makes it look airbrushed so I think if it was slightly more blocky it would look better, I think maybe adding some more tones to the skin would be cool and make it look more realistic, and finally it does seem a bit stiff so maybe some looser thinner lines when you first started sketching would help. I've been doing digital art on Autodesk for a while now and i just wanted to give a few critiques but overall you did an amazing job for it only being you third time trying.
May i ask some tips for blending? I don't know how to achieve the in-between of too much blending and too blocky. Well actually I'm still figuring out digital drawing and I'm a total noob in realism 😂
milkey way personally I like to just go back and forth between the colours and layering them and blending the colours into each other instead of using the smudge/blending tool, in fact I don’t think I use it at all. To me it creates the perfect blend for my style. It may not work for you or give you the effect you’re looking for but there’s no harm in trying and seeing if it’s right for you. It took me a while to figure out what styles and techniques that I liked. I just think it’s a game of trial and error and seeing what works for you and what you like because at the end of the day it’s your art and no one else’s!
I think with blending, it’s more a personal/style choice, because I actually like the more blended look and think it looks better than it would if it was more blocky. 😅 Though she does say that she thinks she blended it too much as well. But otherwise, I agree. Nice critiques and advice! I’m sure she’ll get better with more practice.
As someone who's been doing Digital art for several years, it was really sweet watching Rae get excited about adjusting the opacity and resizing, made me smile.

I'm sure there's a million tips from a bunch of other digital artists in these comments but I will contribute some very basic tips just because it's the sort of thing I wish I had known when I was first starting. So, 1. Most drawing programs have settings that let you set up autosave and how often autosave is used. 2. Layers are your friend. They let you do a bunch of stuff easier and better and are just fun to play with. If you have a sketch bit that you're unsure of, start it on a new layer, delete and restart as needed (not to mention the transform tool which helps with moving/resizing/warping). And I've also found that if you want a really soft blend, it often looks better to start the shading on it's own layer so that it blends into "nothing"/transparency 3. Learn to "clip" layers. Each program does this a little differently but generally speaking you should be able to put a layer on top of a base layer and clip the top layer to the bottom one, which makes it so that you can't go outside of the lines of the base layer. Ex. You draw a red blob you intend to turn into a rose, make a new layer, clip it. Now when you're shading and defining petals, you won't accidentally go outside of the original blob shape. 4. Layer styles are super fun and extremely helpful, especially for lighting. This is different for each program too, but usually there's a drop down right next to where you adjust layer opacity that has a bunch of different styles called things like "multiply", "screen", "overlay", etc. Each mode or style or whatever the program calls it has a different effect on the layer. Multiply is great for shading, for instance. Play with them and you'll find that you can create effects that are much more difficult if not impossible in traditional art. That's all I can think of for right now but hopefully this is helpful for somebody.
Oml tysm!!!! I’m really new to digital art and I had no idea I could do most of that! I played around with a few and suddenly everything is so much easier! (Not that digital art is ever easy when you’re on a small phone with a stylus you got for free XD)

I have a art app that's sorta good, could use some more brushes but I'm a pleb at drawing so its perfect and not as difficult as other art apps with everything, one catch tho, sometimes it'll save automatically, like theres a feature ig where it'll save automatically for you, you can choose the timing, and for me, it'll just make it crash and the image will still *be* there when you press "previous" but it'll be to when you last saved, and progress that you made on the eye that you just drew for ten minutes because you were trying to make it look like the perfect eye on the side of it is gone

This came out amazing!! And I'm grateful that you were honest about your struggles with digital art. Too often I get the "you're not a real artist if you do digital art" which is BEYOND annoying (and hurtful). It's simply another medium (just like acrylic, clay, pencil crayons). Digital art's boon is its ease of access, sure, but it's also a learning curve and requires skill to master it. So thank you for not belittling it :)
Oy Rae!!! Allow me to help me with some tips I use as a professional Digital Artist in my career and the things I have learned over the years. I related a ton to you because I absolutely know how it feels to have to learn something on your own. Autodesk Sketchbook and Procreate are my babies. So I can help if you have any questions at all. That being said, I have some tips for you to see: 1.) Shading and blending in digital art is NOWHERE near as complicated or technical as it is in traditional art. Most of the time, all the shading and the complex tones you see in some pieces are achieved through the use of layers. never on just one layer. This helps create the effect you are going for in a fraction of the time, as well as organizes your workspace. Depending on the software, you can actually separate and categorize what is in each layer (Example: Linework, Details for line work, and coloring) to track your progress. 2.) Coloring in digital is divided in 3 main categories (From what I usually use and see): A.Color Scale (That's basically a slider) B.Gradient Scale (It's a scaling option that allows you to choose any variant that can exist for any specific color that you want (Ex.Red-to-Black, you can get, rose, pink, wine, mahogany etc.) C.Hex Code (This is basically colors that are input by numbers to create what you want, think copic and home depot color samples but on steroids.) 3.) Autodesk Sketchbook has a cool feature on their mobile app in the preferences to disable any hand contact when you are using a pen/stylus (What this essentially does is makes it so you can touch the screen as much as you normally would & want for manual adjustments and resizing and etc. but when you are drawing, it will not interfere at all and will only read your pens input). I don't know if this works on Procreate, if it does, I'll add it in a edit to the comment. I HIGHLY recommend enabling it for a more seamless experience. 4.) Saving. Hooooooly crap, I cannot stress this enough. as soon as you make any sort of significant progress (At least in Autodesk) use the return to gallery option/ save current piece. That'll prevent exactly what you had went through in the video. Do I hate that Autodesk doesn't have a "Autosave"? Absolutely, it's one of the biggest downsides, but it definitely a easy problem to solve, just requires short breaks on the artists part. 5.) I recommend working with a background that is not white as the prolonged exposure can dry eyes out and cause some irritation. I have found the best colors to work on is dulled beiges and browns to simulate that nice brown sketch paper that helps color and your linework pop even more. These are some quick tips/observations I saw and I would love to answer anyone's questions regarding how to start or improving their technique. [NOTE & DISCLAIMER]: I will answer any questions for the exception: anything relating to sharing my trade secrets, my methods of gaining clients and whatnot.
Awesome Aleeza i'm trying to get my friends into Inis Paint but they would rather spend $10 on an app that doesn't do as good as Ibis Paint because it's too CoMpLiCaTeD
@@Aysu_0z I use procreate and I used Ibis paint for 3/4 years (and still do sometimes) and in ways procreate is better than ibis such as, you can change each brushes stabalizer, you can customize your brushes way more than in ibis paint, there are way more actually helpful brushes, you can add texture to brushes there are also tools like liquifier, and noise, plus you can import brushes, you can animate using the app, plus there are more export options and there are no annoying ads and all brushes are free (cause well you paid for the app) so in many ways procreate is better and well worth the money.

Thanks so much for uploading art videos because you were the one who made me want to draw and do art and at first I easily got frustrated but you kept me going and now I and better than I thought I would end up after starting So thanks for being awesome❤️❤️❤️
@@moonlightfong Yeah ibis is good when it comes to that, but once that happened and open it up back up, you cant redo something you did previously. They should add that as a feature, thatd be really cool.
You did such a good job! I got a little frustrated every time you were like: *you can do that???* And for once I felt like I was advanced in art knowledge, but you're seriously so amazing at art and I love your pictures and always look forward to your awesome videos!
When you had to restart the entire painting, I had war flashbacks of my baby brother taking his little devil hand and smearing it all over my painting.
Omg Rae, noooo 😭 All that work lost, that's awful. As a primarily digital artist, I died a little on the inside when you lost your work. And also saved my own picture at least five times during the course of this video. The end result came out well, though! I'm glad you persevered through it all.
RAE! That is absolutely amazing! It’s absolutely great for one of your first few tries! Digital art is amazingly useful. I’d advise you to use a masking layer to lock your colors and or shading into a base color below! It’s great for realism when you can make a base block of color that’s correct for what you want and shade it and blend it from there with colors without disrupting the shape or other objects you’re painting! And the fact you were even able to do realistic coloring is amazing, especially with figuring out how to do it. Keep it us sis!
I’m in the same boat as you. I taught myself the basics of digital art around 1 and 1/2 years ago but then I transitioned to watercolor and “paper” mediums. I’m trying out digital art again and I find it’s so different and the blending tools are incredibly powerful. I feel bad looking at my new art considering I came so far in my paper mediums, but I’m still trying. It’s nice to see I’m not alone.
I am kinda both. I like real life artwork and digital art. I have recently bought some Poscas and canvas panels (which I didn't know existed until I watched your channel so thank you ❤️) and a bunch of sketch pencils. I also got a really good tablet for digital art and have been trying out different programs. Right now I am using Sketchable, Krita, and Autodesk. I have massive respect to all kinds of artists. It takes so long to make amazing artwork, and songs and a million other things. Anyways I hope everyone has an amazing day 😅.

That being said, I have some tips for you to see:
1.) Shading and blending in digital art is NOWHERE near as complicated or technical as it is in traditional art.
2.) Coloring in digital is divided in 3 main categories (From what I usually use and see): A.Color Scale (That's basically a slider) B.Gradient Scale (It's a scaling option that allows you to choose any variant that can exist for any specific color that you want (Ex.Red-to-Black, you can get, rose, pink, wine, mahogany etc.) C.Hex Code (This is basically colors that are input by numbers to create what you want, think copic and home depot color samples but on steroids.)
3.) Autodesk Sketchbook has a cool feature on their mobile app in the preferences to disable any hand contact when you are using a pen/stylus (What this essentially does is makes it so you can touch the screen as much as you normally would & want for manual adjustments and resizing and etc. but when you are drawing, it will not interfere at all and will only read your pens input).
Rae: *Talking abt how she lost her drawing bc it didn't save*
People that use Ibis Paint: Idk man, sounds kinda sus to me '>'
Idk why I got exited when you said Ibis Paint, I don't know any buddy that uses that app 😂
@@Aysu_0z I- xd EVERYONE IK USES THAT APP, literally ask anyone of my friends that have ever drawn digitally they use Ibis paint xd
Awesome Aleeza i'm trying to get my friends into Inis Paint but they would rather spend $10 on an app that doesn't do as good as Ibis Paint because it's too CoMpLiCaTeD
Yeah I use both ibispaint and procreate! I feel like they’re better than autodesk Lol
Am I the only one who thinks her first experience with digital art was really funny and an absolute masterpiece? 😂

Seriously tho, Rae's videos are some of my favorites. I'm so glad she's still uploading, and i know it must be hard because of everything that's going on. Stay safe everyone

I don’t like using paper because it’s bad for the environment
I LOVE digital art. Fire Alpaca and Medibang are some of my favourite free programs to use. I just wish I understood more techniques people use.

Thanks so much for uploading art videos because you were the one who made me want to draw and do art and at first I easily got frustrated but you kept me going and now I and better than I thought I would end up after starting

ArtRage is very good for mimicking traditional brushes and canvas.
When she said she lost everything...
*I felt that*
But no seriously, that's the biggest problem with digital art.
Yeah
But if u use to he right app like ibis paint x it is so much easier
@@moonlightfong Yeah ibis is good when it comes to that, but once that happened and open it up back up, you cant redo something you did previously. They should add that as a feature, thatd be really cool.
Well kinda you can *
Well if you use procreate it isnt
Me: a digital artist that uses autodesk sketchbook
Rae: spells it as “auto sketch desk”
Me: *rae wtf*
she also said it doesn’t have autosave but I’ve been using it for 6 years and I know very well that it d o e s
Tru it does autosave i realized that in the video too hehe
Imagine what Rae could do with an Apple Pencil , iPad, and procreate
Piper Saks she’d be a match to Thanos
Dude I be scared
I really love your art style and also I love the theme of some of your paintings it's really nostalgic
Rae: he is the cutest dog I have ever seen

lol
I’m just waiting for a makeup routine from Rae because she always looks snatched
Im so prouddd how far you have come, i have been here since quite a bit ago and u have improved massively! Well done
You did such a good job!
I got a little frustrated every time you were like: *you can do that???*
And for once I felt like I was advanced in art knowledge, but you're seriously so amazing at art and I love your pictures and always look forward to your awesome videos!
Hey Rae I love your channel I keep watching them everysingle day I've and over again🤣🤣🤣🤣 In waited for you to post!
As someone does digital art, I'm impressed.
I was in the middle of installing the brushes I bought for my iPad when this video came out! Perfect timing
Tip when shading start one shade darker at a time don’t go right from like pale to brown but you did i great job I love your art and this is not hate
That's actually a really good tip, I'm going to start doing that now thank you aha!!
Me: can’t draw a circle without a tool on sketchbook
Rae: *draws that*

kudos on pushing through the tough times!! Turned out amazing considering your experience(and just on its own too)!
Now traditional artists now know how it feels when you accidently delete your piece or the program crashes.
I just took a ss of it just in case it gets deleted...
Rae!! Your art is amazing❤️
And yeah also
Here some love from me

I seriously think this is some of your best work yet!! Even with it being a new medium for you, it looks incredible! You KILLED it!!!!!!
