I'm looking to buy a pair of those rams, is it worth spending more for the 6000mhz version on CL40 or should i grab the 5200 version and wait later for lower CAS?
I just recently built a new PC and fortunately I was able to get my hands on some DDR5. Yes it was expensive but I would rather get it and be done with it instead of bitching about the situation and not being able to take advantage of it. Anyway, coming from a Z390 platform to the Z690 and DDR5 I am really happy with the performance and the comfort of knowing I am going to have a great PC for a few more years in case things get worse as it looks like they are going to do. I'm now use Windows 11 too which I'm not happy with. I need good office software and Microsoft rents Office now with a subscription.
Its so damn expensive meaning there is a point of failure that the manufacturer cant produce a lot of them. Dont buy yet hold off until this is sorted.
Great lesson! how long is 'return' tho as in cl32, i ask as just bought a pc with ddr5 'dominator' in a z690 force and wondering should i cancel before it arrives ya think and reorder ddr4 board for my beloved msfs. thanks:)
I'm OK with the early adopter prices right now. There's no full featured z690 boards with ddr4 support so I'm forced into ddr5. You just can't even buy ddr5 right now even if you want to because none is in stock.
@@Lawz1993 Most multi tasking I do is having about 30 yt videos open in Opera, and but yea I already spent 2500 or so on a pc and graphics card and with the latencies of DDR5 and the compatibility issues I just felt it safer to go DDR4, it really is a shame they feel the need to eliminate backwards compatibility with things like ram.
@@DATWagonator I'm someone who upgrade from a 7 years old PC. So my logic is since they already introduce new board and Ram. Must well I just invest on them. So the coming years I don't need to have the havoc and costing to change the mobo or Ram when I need to upgrade to better core. But anyway it work well currently and without giving any extra trouble. But few month ago, it's a pain in the ass and spend a lot of money on them. Especially the Ram is damn expensive.
Should I get the Micron Crucial DDR5 4800mhz CL40 32gb(single stick) or G.Skill DDR5 5600mhz CL36 32gb(2 sticks)? The G.Skill sticks are about 75% more expensive here for the same amount of ram.. Will the G.Skill DDR5 6000mhz CL36 32gb(2 sticks) make any difference over the 5600 model? it is even more expensive.. I told myself I should probably get the cheapest option until prices come down but I am not sure they will any time soon. I am not holding my breath
Very informative but I read there probably and like are DDR 6-7 already out there for maybe companies whose job is to test it….whatever but I’m sure DDR 5 is very expensive and that’s why it just barely came out for consumers. Either way apple is probably what I’m going to move to next on my pc purchase.
Yeah ddr5 has been in development stages for so many years. Big companies can't just switch on a dime in a moment notice. They need time for standardization of parts and bios and once most of the big players can mix and match products for it to play nicely they release the consumer retail products
I chose to build my first sff pc as my daily driver. Replacing my hp omen 17t-an100 laptop I went with the ddr5 memory. I too just purchased the gaming z trio but I was under the impression that it was an aluminum back plate and that this was the difference between the X and Z versions of the card but I am pretty sure mine is graphite like the X andI was just curious what your backplate was composed of and also how you like that stupid support bracket.. I am really thinking of going third party to find something bc even with trying to add some pads and stack it in places the shape of the underside of the card doesn't really give you much contact area plus it seems the bar is poorly designed.
@@DATWagonator mine seems like metal I'll do a scratch test for ya. It's a good card and I never tried using the bracket support. But it is definitely one of the best 3080 12gb cards you can find.
@@DATWagonator it definitely seems like a composite alloy. Though if it's graphite then it'll perform better with heat spreading. Compared to 100% aluminum. (People make graphite thermal pads for cpu after all)
@@DATWagonator p.s. I read that the difference is also about the oc that applied. So technically it's a cherry picked gpu when they did their binning. So they put it in the z trio and not the lower x or the higher surpreme gpu
Soo... DDR5 is brickable? Knacker up a profile rename and bingo.. XMP3 go bye bye. Maybe the whole RAM? Hmm.. worth waiting for early adopters to absorb all the problems teeheehee

Well done... one of the best presentations I have seen on DDR5...
Thanks for the low-down
DDR5 looks like a waste of money for the next few years.
1:36 how do you all NOT see the shady shit they are doing so you HAVE to get new stuff, boycott these practices, f-them.
The manufacturers themselves are probably having trouble getting the components to produce the modules because of the shipping problems too.
TIL DD4 had a curved edge
Good video
you just need to make sure you put the correct mhz in the system. i learned that one the hard way.
Can't wait for a 'Timing vs Speed' in depth explanation.

4 months later there are plenty of things in stock now from what I can tell. I just don't know if ddr5 is worth it for gaming.
@@DATWagonator I do gaming and content creator so it's kinda worth it. If you are into something like need multitasking

Is it necessary to add heat spreaders to the plain sticks?
For DDR4 no, but DDR5 could get a bit hotter with the power conversion circuitry but I don't have any to test so maybe.

No just reset cmos and you'll boot to a jedec profile and then overwrite your xmp profile again.
So what tasks will suffer due to cl40, for instance ? It is said that file compression is faster on DDR5 (even CL40).
