Bryan thank you for the shout out in this video! Happy to play a small part in making you and your crew's day a little brighter. Keep posting the great vids!
Who knew? I learned today that container vessels have swimming pools! Awesome!
He’sworking at a container vessel.
You have complete mastery of that ship and all it’s functions. That must have taken quite some time, aptitude and training to reach this point in your career. I assume your technical knowledge was acquired through a maritime college degree course or similar. Well done on getting this far, you have a very bright future.
A pool?! hahaha, can't beat that
That orange juicer is epic!!!
A fresh squeezed OJ and a sunset sound like a pretty nice day.
Oh my gosh- Life is GOOD at sea! Swimming pools, gourmet coffee , fresh squeezed OJ and beautiful sunsets! Great video Bryan!!!
Don’t forget the lack of tv, proper internet, friends and family, 84hr working weeks, bad weather, high seas, and all that for 3 to 4 months at a time. Stress etc etc etc etc.
@@bas6983 Do you work on a cargo ship?
@@geddon436 yes, as captain at a chemical tanker.
@@bas6983 how often do you work 84 hrs weeks?
@@geddon436 at the moment we’re lucky. I’ve got 3 officers on board perfoming in a normal watch schedule of 4/8. Butttttt on average 2 to 3 hours of overtime for the chief is very normal. When I was chief officer my week was between 80 and 84 hours minimum. 6/6 and something extra for 7 days a week and 7 weeks at a time.
Can you make a video about the pros and cons of working on ships?
My dad was in the merchants back during the big war but he never had orange juice squeezing machine! I am in the wrong business!
Nice to find someone who makes the same type of videos as myself ! 💪🏽 great video
The technology on the vessel is amazing, thanks as always for such a informative video. Never knew you had a pool on the ship. Thank Bryan, please stay safe out there.
Would have never expected a pool
Fresh squeezed juice on the Vessel. You blue water guys got all the Gravy. 👍
Never klicked on a new video so fast
at 2:16 the chart showing everything from norfolk to the places I want to go. Rotterdam and Antwerp. You video's are just getting better and better. So informative. Thanks. What a crazy orange juice machine. I could never imagine how that works. 😁
Really enjoying these videos mate, all the way from London UK. Keep em coming!
I went though a worm hole to find out more info about that orange juice machine. Thanks for sharing.
Best job in the world. Lucky fellow.
Great video Bryan! Really enjoying these
I like the way you explained it,
Hell yeah, brother. Good luck on the new ship!
Appreciate the upload, Bryan!
Great >>>>Keepem coming!
Great video! I enjoyedthe quirky aspects of your experience aboard ship. Keep it up, please!
Bryan thanks for the video.
I could watch your videos everyday, so informative and very interesting. I’ve always wondered what the speed of the Gulf Stream currents were and you provided this information. I really appreciate everyone of your videos and thank you for taking time to post them. I always look forward to your next video. Thanks Bryan and stay safe!!
Another great video! Looks like a paid cruise to me!
I was part of ships company USS Iowa and when I saw "Iowa" on your shirt it brought back a lot of great memories. I'm now a pilot but have always thought to be the captain of a large maritime vessel would be the ultimate job. Keep the vids coming, I really enjoy them!
Good video Shipmate!
Thanks for sharing. I am using your videos to teach my students in Suffolk, Va. I am currently teaching Trade Networks and I have used your videos along with the video from the Port Norfolk Terminal and my students were very engaged. Thanks so much for sharing.
Great interesting video. I live in Spain and have seen those OJ machines in bars and cafés occasionally.
NICE VIDEO....
Great videos
Muy buen viaje... Un saludo desde Barcelona 🇪🇸
Lake next to me in north-central Europe now.. 7C... :-) But both of these baths are now... refreshing.
That is warm water!
Wow! Who would of though there's a pool on board?! nice.
views were 👌its funny my friend's last name is Bunn and they are in the coffee business but they don't make coffee makers lol, i am a really enjoying the videos, wonderful work.
We have a 2 expresso machines on our fishing boat 1 in the mess and 1 up the bridge
I've never seen juice machine on vessel before
It would be better to have an espresso coffee machine on the bridge :)
I'd personally run that ship out of oranges in just a few days, what a great perk!
I think the Vlog series of a seaman would be interesting for your subscribers.
Use an Aeropress to make coffee, it is HEEPS better than an coffee machine. You will NEVER want to go back.
you are right ,Starbucks i smell this at Düsseldorf-Airport -no way!
Tschibo perhaps Hamburg-Habour/Bremerhafen is the first choice of premium coffee (Fine mild germ. Feine Milde schredded in type one plus Dutch milk =heaven!)
You need to check out invader coffee, out of Texas all veteran owned!!air roasted coffee..
You ship guys have it easy. Try towing a loaded oil barge into the gulf stream, with a stiff northerly wind and then we can talk about hitting a wall.
The main equipment on the bridge is coffe machine
Lots of oranges required for that glass. It would be great if there was a machine that peeled the oranges than pulped the rest of it into a drink - and perhaps add sugar to taste. Great to see the less formal side of sea life, especially the luxuries. The swimming pool is original ship equipment, or have past engineering crew added it at some point???
Yea that thing did use quite a bit of oranges. Apparently it only requires two of the larger oranges. The pool is original from when the ship was built!
@@BryanBoyle Very thoughtful of the builder or commissioning owner to include a pool.
Wait, how does that anti slip thingy at 4:37 keep from melting under the coffee pot? Inquiring minds want to know! 😉
Awesome vlogs Bryan, what editing software do you use?
Thanks Randy. I primarily just use iMovie
Have you ever sailed on a trans-Pacific route?
Poor cadets 📛
I'd had been told that southbound went closer to shore and northbound was farther out. Assumed it was about traffic management. Known about Gulf Stream since I was a little kid but never made the connection before
5:20 Not sure the Steward's gonna be happy about one more thing to clean.
Yes this is all about fuel efficiency. Since most ships are looking to be efficient, this also does have the benefit of traffic management as most southbound ships stay close to shore, and northbound ships stay further offshore. I’ve never seen an orange juice machine like this on a cargo ship. I’m not sure how the steward feels about it, but I did notice all the oranges were removed each day after breakfast so I guess he only wants to clean the machine once a day!
Is the OJ any good?
How do you know where the Gulf Stream is, other than being in it, is it marked on charts ?
How long is a container ship crewman on duty before he get shore leave ?
Bryan what is your specific job / title - Love your videos Thanks
I usually sail as second officer in charge of navigation equipment and route planning
@@BryanBoyle thank you Bryan - I am enjoying all of your videos. I live in Sacramento area, next time I see a cargo container ship coming under the Golden Gate, I will have a much greater appreciation of what it takes to keep that ship moving through the water
Bryan, Do cargo ships bunker fresh water or you make them on board using some sophisticated filtration and reverse osmosis system ?
We have a reverse osmosis water maker onboard. We also will take on fresh potable water in some ports as needed though
How deep is that pool? Can you dive in head first?
Has anyone else noticed that Bryan is kinda hot?
Bryan ? Does these Ship ever accept a sort of working passenger wanting to go from say Texas to the Philippines ? just asking thats all.
They used to allow passengers in the past but unfortunately no longer do so for most, if not all US flagged vessels. I believe some other flagged vessels may still allow this though I’m just not sure which ones specifically. Best of luck!
@@BryanBoyle Thanks Bryan for the info.
this is asmongold if it were to be he went at sea
How can i get a sweet gig like this?
Merchant marine school/academy, at least 12 months on board as a cadet plus additional courses and, since he's a chief mate, at least 36 more months as an officer plus the necessary qualifications
Starbucks premium coffee, come on man...
Sir do you enjoy working on a ship?
It has its up and downs. Ships are cool machines to operate and maintain. I think it’s far more enjoyable than sitting in an office cubicle, but constantly leaving family over and over again takes its toll. The vacation time when you aren’t working though is also incredible.
