    Thank you for that. I’m one of those that finds the user manual is all words and numbers and doesn’t make a great deal of meaning, but having seen your video I too changed the settings , on 300 lithium the full charge has reached its optimal settings.👍👍👍

    At 2:50 the 13.2v reconnect is not a "hard" setting; it is being constrained by another setting that it cannot violate. PARAM errors mean setpoint logic is being violated (float cannot be > "boost"/absorption, for example).
    The exact logic is spelled out in more recent controller manuals.

      I'm fighting with lowering the Voltage to STOP Charging.. Today I was watching my Home built 288ah Lifepo4 battery reach 100%.
      Once my BMS says I'm at 100%, the Epever Continues to dump power into my cells at 200w, 16+ Amps until my BMS Shuts it down because a cell reaches 3.6v roughly, and very suddenly.
      I'll run HOURS with a deviation of 0.0013.. But once I hit 100% (according to the BMS).. The Epever keeps dumping in power.
      I've watched 20+ videos, read articles.. Hunted Google..
      Today I REMOVED THE LOAD, And locked the fets in "off" in the BMS due to a cell overcharged.. TWO cells were well over 3.58v, while two others were only at 3.35ish. (So a HUGE deviation that formed between 99% and the Contoller stopping once the BMS shut it down.
      My 12v Fridge is now running on Shore power.. An hour of watching the battery balance.. As I try desperately to figure this out.
      I can't figure out how to stop charging at 90-95% or say 275ah?? Floating a little BEFORE 100% ++..
      I've been stabbing the dark trying to figure out HOW DO I stop it from charging to 101%+??

      @@sailingthehighwave827 > I can't figure out how to stop charging at 90-95%
      It's hard to do. I'd keep dropping the voltage and reducing the Absorption duration to the minimum value. I think the min is 10mins with epever controllers.
      Might start at 3.35Vpc and creep up a bit further day after day to see how the cells react.
      I charged my LFP bank with an epever (3.45Vpc, 20 mins of Absorption) and it behaved as expected.

    Excelente video, gracias.

    Information for this line of SCCs is sparse. Thanks for posting this. I am going out to compare what I finally decided on with my new 100a model. I have owned a 40a as well.. this was several years ago and there was basically no help out there... not even from the manufacturer. One thing that I did on the smaller system was turn off 120vac out of the inverter using a 40amp SSR controlled via the load terminals when battery voltage was a a certain low point. Again, thanks.

    Equalize is just a extension of bulk charge for LiFePo4 cells. 120 min +120 min = 4 hr at 14.2-14.6v BMS will shut of current to battery when full.

      I read a comment from an electrical engineer that made the point you don't want to rely on the bms for charge limiting, that instead you want the charge controller to do it.
      And if your doing a 80%-20% soc for battery longevity then you have to set your parameters lower which would mean definitely not depending on bms to stop your float or boost charge.
      I started researching a cpl months ago so i would have at least some idea of what i would need to set my parameters at when i get my setup together, which im finally getting to. Im watching this video again and reading thru comments as a refresher, and thought i would comment on what i read. It was on using a pwm along with an mppt to maximize charging, and the guy was using the bms to stop the overcharging since the two cc didn't "talk" to each other, but i think it would also stand to reason it would be better to not use bms for the same purpose for this application. But i could be wrong lol.

      @@checkingoutgypsymike2075 I would also like to do the 80%-20% recommended. I have a 360ah lifepo4... I would love to know what you set your boost and float at when you get everything set up! I realize you did this video over 6 months ago, but it is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. I have a 300Ah lithium Chinese battery, the EPever AN series controller and just got the MT50 so I can set the "user" settings. I'm wondering if I should go with a lower voltage for longer battery life. At least until I find I need the extra amps. I've heard it is best to charge\discharge between 20-80% SOC. Not sure if we have the exact battery, but I would think the same settings would apply. Thanks for the video, crossing my fingers that I don't mess up something expensive :)

    • @ProjectsinParadise808
      @ProjectsinParadise808  2 роки тому +4

      Even though it's been six months since that video, I still fiddle around with my charging parameters. Pretty much I charge to 14.2 volts now, hold it there for 30 minutes, and set float 13.5-13.6v. Of course disable the equalize setting. Today I hooked up a second 40amp epever controller, for a second string of panels. Hope to make a video this week about that, and I will cover parameters again. Thanks for being part of the conversation here...aloha 🤙

    • @ray7157
      @ray7157 2 роки тому +3

      It depends on your situation. Andy on Off the Grid uses slow charging voltage of 3.4v with absorption and on his graft with 3.4 v it charged up to 87%(?) and took 4hrs of absorption time to reach 97%. If you have the time slow charging as you stated does not stress the cells that much but takes longer. Below he is charging at 3.55 v (97%SOC) so it will charge quicker but stresses the cell more and maybe decrease its life but as Andy said if you only have a short window of charging ( less sun, moving in an RV) then faster would get your capacity up quicker. Either way Andy shows that it does not make much sense to charge at greater than 3.5v. He also recommends not to set the float charger too much lower than the boost charge since it would not kick in until the cells drop below the float and thus lose value time and sun energy during that time (voltagage) difference. As you know, lithium does not use float stage but by setting up to just below or equal to boost, the charger does not stay at that stage for long. 20-80% SOC is a good range to keep your cells for longevity. If you find you are using more than that, its time to upgrade to more cells!

    How do you turn the load on and off? The instructions in the manual on page 14 don't work. In fact, the screen in the manual doesn't even match that on the controller. I assume load setting "100" is "manual mode," but I might be wrong. Is it just me, or is this interface unnecessarily confusing?

      @@ProjectsinParadise808 I figured out the answer right after I posted my question. I finally figured out how to get the PC software to work and set the load to "off" using that. When I looked at the LCD on the Tracer, I saw that it changed the setting of the load mode to "117". "Off" in the PC software was a bit more intuitive than "117" on the Tracer. Once on "117" (Manual Mode), the instructions on page 14 worked. The other major thing that confused me was that when I set my battery type to LiFePO4, many of the setting changes I wanted to make were unavailable to change. When I made the changes I wanted using the PC software, It automatically changed my battery type to "User". Stupid me. It would make more sense to start with LiPO4, and make tweaks from there. The Victron controllers are slightly more than twice as expensive as the Epever controllers. Do they at least provide an unambiguous user interface?

    I’m a little confused about the float charge. My understanding is that lithium does not require a float charge only lead acid and gel batteries require a float charge. Float charging lithium damages it, this is just what I have heard so can you confirm this for me

    • @ProjectsinParadise808
      @ProjectsinParadise808  2 роки тому +2

      That is correct. Lifepo4 does not need to be floated. That said, most charge controllers I am familiar with have float settings to be programmed to your specific battery. For example, I am using a couple different Lifepo4 batteries, and both recommend setting float to 13.8v, which I have done. After being fully charged to 14.5, the panels back current off to 13.8. But it doesn't hold at a steady 13.8 . It will go down below that, then the panels periodically give a boost back up to 13.8 momentarily, repeating until there is no more charging for the day. Hope this made sense. It took me awhile watching, and playing with the settings to have it dialed in. aloha 🤙

A lot had to do with my own learning curve with lifepo4 since it was new for me...been on lead acid batteries forever. The preset settings can work if you disable the equalize setting. After several weeks of playing around with it found what I really like in user setting and will run with that. Now I don't have to look at it too much...it just works perfectly. Boost to 14.3, float 13.5, 0 for equalize. I set a ten minute boost at 14.3 because there's not much gained by going longer. I am still learning this chemistry, but loving it. Thanks for checking in.

      @@ProjectsinParadise808 is equalized setting the same as absorption time? I watched off grid garages video and there was a question on why not set float voltage to be same as absor voltage to allow bms to continuously balance cells as well as allow solar to supply any loads without having to cycle back to bulk and abdor mode. Off grid garage said yes, set absor=float.
      Another commentor junker zn had a few seemingly insightful comments. He said to never do this, batteries are not capacitors. Even if the amps are reading zero there are going to be eddy currents at the potential wall, and it will overcharge above it if the cc is left in that state.
      Setting the float high enough to actually get the bms to top-balance the cells is also high enough to over charge the battery and damage/reduce it's life. He stated you want cc to charge battery hi enough for bms to be able to top balance it (eg bulk absorb target minimum 3.45-3.5 per cell is better with absor time set to zero) amd then for both the cc and bms to both stop messing with the batt until the next charge cycle. Witch seems to agree with you, float should not be set higher than 3.35 or so.
      Im totally nee to this, i am waiting to learn more so i can top balance my 8 cells as 4 cell 12v's. There are a couple of different terms between that discussion and yours, and other videos, and since your using a epever and not victron i thought I'd ask you any questions. Like is equalized the same as absor time, whats the (turbo charge) setting ect.
      But mainly since you seem to agree with the 3.35 3.4 float setting, is it ok to ask you any questions when my epever comes in and i set my solar up? Im sure I'll have a few more. The parameters being one, getting the initial top balancing correct then what to program in for lifepo4 settings. Sorry for being so long, but I'd rather ask than mess something up. Thanks for the answer to my first question, it's much appreciated. God bless!!
