Too modest Bill, no mistakes just improvisation. Great to watch you in action. I don’t have much time a the moment so looking your way for inspiration 👍 House looks great and the farm and towers too. The fun’s in the planting! Thanks for the upload 👏🏻
Wow thanks Darren, that means a lot. Glad you enjoyed it. I seem to spend a lot of enjoyable time turning mistakes into solutions. Hope you get some train time soon - Bill.
I thought you did a pretty good job on the buildings and you have done a great job on the scenery and layout. Thank you for sharing your techniques and the mishaps which we can all learn from.
Thanks Glen! I’ve actually got a new multi-part scratchbuild video coming out tomorrow 11/21/2022 at noon. Let me know what you think! Take care - Bill.
Unadilla track was like a national treasure. I watched a few televised races from the track. I remember one where Bob Hannah ran out of fuel while leading allowing Ricky Johnson to take the win. He awarded him his empty gas tank as a bonus trophy. Very cool that you raced there! Also, really enjoying the build and tips, thanks a lot. I move more slowly on my small layout, yet managed to run trains quite often haha.
Hi Tom! I didn't race, I was just a spectator. We camped there Saturday night. I got pretty wild lol. Thanks for sharing the gas tank story, pretty cool! Have fun - Bill.
I planted rows of wheat, took a long time but turned out good. Had a sheet of 1/4" baltic birch plywood. First painted the plywood dirt color, then penciled in rows using a straight edge ruler 3' long. Had an old hemp rope that had seen better days, so unwraped the rope and soaked the individual strands in soapy water. Then hung them with a weight on the bottom and the top to the rafters of my garage. Let it dry. That straightened the individual strands of the rope. When dry, clip off about 3/8" lengths. hold a pinch of the fibers. Dipped the bottom end in some tacky white glue. Place the pinch on the pencil rowland hold in place until it stands on its own generally about 10-15 seconds. Get another pinch and continue planting the wheat until all the rows new finished. My field was about 24" wide and 36" long. Took about 3 weeks. If the strands are not dry the glue will wick up the length and dry stiff.
Wow this sounds awesome! It really shows the passion and creativity you have for your layout and hobby. And the patience! Would love to see some video or photos. Thanks for sharing this William! Cheers - Bill.
Will post some photos as soon as I can figure out how to get them. All the photos are on my old external hard drive for my 15 year old computer that crashed. Haven't found a cable to connect Firewire 800 to USB-c yet! Maybe I can just go take a photo next week! @@MyFingerLakesRailwayLayout
We’ll now….. now I know I’m not the only one who buys kits that I already bought but forgot that I bought …!!! Your scratch builds turned out really good!
Hi Troy, the MEK Substitute seems to work just fine, as good as the Plastruct Plastic Weld, which is basically MEK. It's getting harder to find this stuff. I'm glad I bought a gallon when I did. Lifetime supply 😄 Take care - Bill.
Menards here in Omaha sells it{real M.E.K.) by the quart and gallon, all the hardware stores around here sell the substitute so I went looking for it. It is alot "hotter" than Plastic weld and it seems to evaporate more easily but it works great.@@MyFingerLakesRailwayLayout

Looks great! Really like those salt towers.
Thanks Matt! Without the prototype reference, people would be like "what the heck is that?" Take care - Bill.
@@MyFingerLakesRailwayLayout definitely but you explained it well so we're all in the know

Thanks Derek - My second attempt at scratch building came out a whole lot better. Glad we can all learn from my mistakes!
Nice work!

Looks good to me,especially the towers. I to have made the vertical/horizontal screw up more than once.
Thanks Gary, I appreciate it! Take care - Bill.
I like the layout
Well thank you R&R, glad you like it. So do I! Thanks for commenting - Bill
Does the M.E.K. Substitute work as well as regular M.E.K.?? I have never tried the substitute.
