I worked in the ER and ICU and volunteered as a "Dignity Companion" at my hospital. But after 10 years of all 3, I was burnt out and I switched careers. I still volunteer for companion in hospice one Saturday and Sunday a month. My wife asks why I do it and I say "it's a fucked up world out there, if I were alone, I'd hope someone would be there to hold my hand and say goodbye" she doesn't get it, a lot of people don't
Gosh! I'm so proud to be a volunteer for such an amazing institution. I really connected when Jeannie Meyer said that this is the first place where she cared enough to remember the mission statement. #ItBeginsWithU #UInspireUsToBeTheBest
Has anyone ever considered that some may want to die alone? We have enough empirical evidence that many people wait until family members and etc are gone before they let go! If there are some who want to die alone how are you going to determine which ones? Most care is done with consent. when patients our unconscious they cannot refuse your presence. NODA is a great program only when these questions are answered.
You raise a good point. My hope is that people would express and document their EOL wishes so that they can be honored. Otherwise, how would people know?

Thank you Sammy for being a blessing to others. So selfless and loving of you.

You can't and it's better to assume they don't I guess. It's a kind gesture. If someone wants to die alone it probably (most likely) stems from hurt

I'll die there😊
