Another great video . Yes the minoans were dominat culture in agean sea through there military navy nd trade fleet ... And they influenced other cultures on the Greek Islands ... Now their culture did not collapse . Let me explain : When the vulcano Island of Thera blow around 16-1550 bce and buried the city akrotiri. The vulcanic activity also started seismic activity on the ocean floor. That sent huge tsunamies Down to Crete. It hit the northern part of the Island . Where it caused huge destuction and destroyed settlement and cretan navy and Trade fleet . And the waves continued up cretan rivers. Where they also caused destructions . But they problems were not over yet. Because vulcanic clouds from Thera was sent with winds Down ti crete. And they contained poisoned vulcanic ash. The ash feel on the fields killing the crops(for bronze age culture dependent of farming this was a disaster) , the ash feel on the meadows killing livestock. So that Big uppercut to Crete (famine destruction etc) And so this was not the end of minoan crete. They got back on their feet and continued on for the 90 years. But the golden age was over. Minoan Crete was just secondrate power . And vaccum left by was quikly filled in the mycenean Greek City states from the mainland . The greeks now became dominant culture . And they spread through the agean sea. And many islander on the Greek Islands started ti copy the Greek culture , language and religion ... But Crete did not escape Greek infuence either. Around 1450 bce. Crete was invaded by mainland greeks. And other palaces were plundred and burned down. And Greek mycenean kings ruled from knossos. Linear a writing dissapeared and was replaced by Greek linear B. And the greeks also brought their gods with them . Gods like Zeus , Hera, Athena, Hermes Poseidon etc . The myceneans alteady vorshiped and belived in Thise gods in the bronze age ..., Also the many minoans to copy/emulate Greek culture/language/dress and religion . So minoan Crete was simply absorbed into mycenean Greece. And with the next 200 years minoan culture and language dissapears . But is opened up opotonities for cretans. Minoan Crete was also a place of great art. And many minoan artists had worked as court artisans in great palace cultures in the east. Now many of them found work in courts of the mycenean citystates on the mainland . In Beotia close to the City of Thebes . Traces of cretan settlement had been found. So Its that small comminities of cretan migrated into the Greek mainland to work there So the conquest opened up New possibilities . Before the conquest Minoans and myceneans had been rivals . Now the minoans were part of the Greek World . So some properbly took the chance to get the Best out of it
History with Cy several . But the best is this documentary with British historian Bethany Hughes ua-cam.com/video/7VJqnTlbCS0/v-deo.html and this article from national Geographic www.nationalgeographic.com/archaeology-and-history/magazine/2017/09-10/Minoan_Crete/

So that means that I have a very good memory .I Can remember books that I have read when I was 14... Also I am fluent in English as you noticed ... And since ancint Greece is my favorit period. I read articles, books and seen 1000 of documentaties about Ancient Greece . Also another great dicumentary is the greeks from cavemen to Kings that covers ancient Greece from before the early bronze age to about the time of the roman conquest

They have not disappear ! They are the modern Greek now !that’s why they so dark .. The white marble statue are the Albanians all the gods were Albanian the language was Albanian.. but something happen in the Greek dark ages and they stole Albanian History and they think , they are the ancient hero’s ... 🇦🇱
Bradley Dinnan no only arvanite lived in Greece the today’s Albanian that speak Greek but they know they are Albanian .. all south Greeks are not pure Greeks on they dna and now genetic test are finding out more who are the Morden Greeks
Mama& Aurora Again, that’s not true. It is very well known that the culture of Greece before and after the Greek dark ages were almost identical. You don’t have to claim Greek culture and history as your own just because Albanians have never done anything 🙄
Just a friendly note. The image you display as the interior of a Minoan Palace at 7:37 is actually an artists depiction of 'Nestor's Palace' a Mycenaean Palace in Mainland Greece.
Yes, that's correct and an error on my part (a couple of others have also pointed that out in the past). I've tried to edit it out but without success. Future videos though will not have this error. Thanks for stopping by, really appreciate it! Stay safe!
@ Humble I want to I am half greek but I dont know too much about my own country even though i can speak the language, because my parents and I were born in germany 😅 But if you want to we can start penpaling
Super interesting. I find it absolutely amazing that such developed cultures and buildings works could exist so long ago! We really are standing on the shoulders of ancient giants.
@Rhaenys Aryan Cool, and yes, I am the typical “idiot”, who happens to be in middle school. also my science teacher from a couple years back explained this crappy fact. also, this Joseph Stalin guy above will most likely be virtually attacked.
how can anyone dislike this video?! it has been really informative to gain knowledge about this ancient civilisation, which many would not know about if they don't read about it themselves.
I have to read a textbook to learn this, but I went out of my way to find a video for myself since I'm a visual audio learner and I'm so grateful you made this video it helped me lots!! Thanks 🙏
Brilliant brief video documentary! Thank you so much for creating and sharing it! i am fascinated with the Minoan civilisations. Another hypothesis regarding their origin is that they came from Ancient Egypt, so I read, if I'm not mistaken. But, as with many other aspects related to the Minoan civlisation, this remains quite speculative. Anyway, keep up the good work, all the best, and plenty of success with your channel and in general!
Woah, I'm so honored (and a bit freaked out) that Lord Vader has found my channel. Please send my best to everyone in the galaxy far, far away... Thank you!

A few things. 1. Have there been archeogenetic studies done on the Minoans? If so, this would go anlong way in clarifying where, and whem, the Minoan peoples originated. 2. There is currently much evidence that when the palace sites were destroyed. There was an inland movement of the Minoan people's to defensible mountain villages, this seems to correspond to the Sea People's invasions and the Bronze Age collapse, which also corresponds with the end of the late Minoan civilisatiin. My personal theory is that advances by the Mycenaeans into the Aegean put downward pressure on the Minoan civilisation, such that when the Sea Peoples swept theough, they could not fend them off, and collapsed, leaving room for later generations of Greeks to colonize the island. I wonder what percentage of Minoan DNA survives in the modern populationnof Crete, since it is unlikely that the peoples dissappeard with their civilisation, but rather those that were left integrated with the Greek colonizers. Some good possible topics to cover in a future follow up video.
As a Greek, we learn a shit ton about the Minoans. on top of many legends of ancient greece about king minos, we learn about the minoan lifestyle, their gods, their writing, a lot of stuff. Recently I've been really interested in the origins of civilization and this shows me my heritage, knowing about the minoans andd recently discovered cycladians. Also, I am a Greek Cypriot, and we also had contact with the Minoans about 4000 yearss ago. on top of the eteocypriot people and language and writing systems there is the cyprominoan, a writing system very close to Minoan Linear A that also hasn't been deciphered and later on cypriot, a language based off Mycenean Greek, using a writing system close to Linear B
The theory that Crete and the Minoan Culture emigrated from Asia Minor, has been discredited, by DNA studies that show that the emigration was from Western Europe, making the Minoan Culture the first Great European Culture.
Link this so called study that shows that the Minoans were Western Europeans. The DNA data I’ve seen, based on Autosomal/overall ancestry, shows that they have genetic continuity with modern day Cretans of between ~75-90%
Is there no thing like indigenous peoples . Surely the indoeurop..theory is not the only one introduced. Humanity all from one place, seems funny. My super theory is that life occured from different places all around the world.mixing at some times certainty. Mathematically nature led the way to homosapiens
I find it interesting how the rise and fall of ancient empires often followed similar patterns. What lessons can we learn from their successes and failures?
In 1 of Emanuel Velikovsky's books (Ages in Chaos(?))he writes about Ipuwer, describing what could be the 10 plagues. Later it was suggested, that this could be the exposion of the former volcano Santorini, what is now the Egean Sea. This explosion should have taken place in ca. 1450 bc. Probably this event had some effect on the Minoan life......
This video is amazing! A lot of information and fun facts here. You deserve much more views and subs. Maybe if you improved your audio a little and made a video more energetic/dynamic? Either way i think you've got a lot of potential
Hi, thanks for the constructive feedback! Yes, I've heard the audio on several of the videos is a bit lacking, not just on this one (music too loud, speech too soft etc.). I think what I'll do in the next few months is to try to remaster the sound, maybe make some other improvements and then re-release. Perhaps I'll take out the music all together. Anyway, thanks so much for stopping by and for your insight, it really helps me to make these vids better. If you have any requests, please let me know. Thanks again!
Great video, even when soundis a bit low. What i appreciate the most, you are not making some deluded statements like most of youtubers about Minoans being Atlantians or inspiration for Atlantis xD
We actually do know what happened to the Minoans. The Santorini Volcanic Megaeruption happened. Those artifacts that have been found were under ash and other heavy debris. That particular volcano was said to be the original home of the oldest "Greecian" forge god. We know for a fact that this eruption was preciptiated by major changes felt as far away as Egypt. That particular volcanic megaerution was heard around the world 3 times over. The Hyksos Exodus is well recorded, and lines up perfectly with what Egyptian tablets declare about the events. We have Volconological evidence that these events were precipatated by the eruption has happened, and is well documented phenomena before it erupts. (Coincidentally, the exact impacts these events would have are recorded in the Hebrew Bible. I know that is controversial, but everything fits perfectly. There is speculation as to the name of the Pharoah in the Yezi'at Mizrayim, it just declares "Pharoah". There is considerable evidence in museums from the Exodus time period that declares the Pharoah to have been "Atemhotep II", including an inscription which shows his chariots being drowned with their riders.)

So the disappearance of the Minoan Civilization is a mystery? Interesting. I always thought it was because of the combination of the volcano eruption on Thera and the pressure from the Mycenaeans and earthquakes, since Crete is located very earthquake prone. Also wasn't the Minotaur (and his roars) a coping mechanism/tale for King Minos to explain all the earthquakes on Crete?
We still don't know for sure. There seems to be a bias in their culture towards woman, meaning they could've been in charge but even that is speculative. They also seemed to have a warrior centric society, that we have evidence for in archeological sites but none of this is depicted in the artwork either. Either way they were highly advanced given their time period and must've been very successful.
He doesn't mention the great earthquakes as a cause of Cretan collapse. They may have driven a lot of Cretan refugees to Palestine. Remnants of Cretan-like frescos are found at Kabri in Syria.
Yes, I've heard about it as a predecessor to the Minoans and the Mycenaeans but haven't studied it in depth...just seen photos of their pottery and read a little about them in general books on Greek history.
Btw the palaces were not palaces... they are public ritual, gathering, performance, religious, economic and possibly redistribution centers. Kingship probably existed during the Mycenaean occupation but not necessarily before.
Rollin Stoned in truth we are not certain. Notably the top floors of the "palaces" had collapsed. We have mainly the foundations (although they probably built walls that were supported from below). Maybe they had strong regional rulers or maybe it was a lot more communal. Interestingly the Spartans and the Cretans both had a common mess, which hints to some type of more communal living. Traditionally the Spartan constitution was influenced by the Cretan one. BUT these are Greek Iron Age civilizations and the Mycenaean Greeks intervened between them and the Minoans. So it's a wild guess. But there is no kingly iconography. At least not in the same way as in Egypt or Mesopotamia... or even classical Greece. Whatever that means.
My DNA results show I’m 86% closer to Minoans than any other sample they tested. How can it be as I’m Persian and my ancestral dna test at least up to 3000 years ago shows I belong to Persian and Iranic ethnic groups but before that I’m related to Minoans?
Not possible, sorry. Based on Autosomal/overall ancestry Iranians/Persians cluster with other Caucasus peoples like the Armenians, Georgians and Turkish. The Minoans cluster close to the Mycenaeans who are close to modern day Greeks, who cluster in the Southern European Autosomal greater cluster.
Hi, thanks for your comment! I think as a culture they were more or less gone, though I"m sure there were perhaps isolated pockets of them that survived that we may not have evidence of. For the most part though, scholars seem to agree that they were gone by the time Dorian Greeks from the mainland colonized Crete. . Thanks again for stopping by!
There is some evidence that the Minoans retreated to remote mountaintop settlements during the bronze age collapse, before returning to farmable land. Mountaintop shrines are part of Minoan religious practices altogether, but these settlements seem to be different. Could be for protection from invaders. The material culture was gone, but the people were not wiped out. DNA sequencing has shown that samples from modern cretans were not that dissimilar from the DNA obtained from minoan burials. They were known to exist on Crete by the Greeks... e.g. in the Odyssey, book 19: "There is a fair and fruitful island in mid-ocean called Crete; it is thickly peopled and there are nine cities in it: the people speak many different languages which overlap one another, for there are Achaeans, brave Eteocretans, Kydonians, Dorians of three-fold race, and noble Pelasgi." So Homer knew of non-Greek inhabitants of Crete, including Kydonians (Kydonia is a toponym found on Lin A tablets and in classical times the name for modern Chania), Eteocretans - original inhabitants of Crete, and Pelasgoi, which probably refers to many different populations. Possibly one of them might be the people of the cycladic civilisation, but that's contentious, the term Pelasgoi seems to be used inconsistently by ancient authors, to refer to many different non-Greek speaking peoples.
I LOVE these videos! Thank you! Do you think you might be able to do this for different native civilizations in America? I don’t think that there’s any like this. So cool & thank you 😊
Look into the Ancient America's channel for loads of native American cultures. You can also check out Fall of Civilizations for Incas, Mayas, and other more well known cultures and get an overview of what life was like and how they perished
Good video, but there are a few mistakes: 1) The Minoans couldn't possibly have taken their script from the Phoenicians. Linear A was developed around 1850 bc and Minoan hieroglyohs around 2000 bc or earlier, whereas the Phoenicians developed their own script, the Phoenician alphabet, around 1050 bc. Plus the Phoenician alphabet is an abjad, whereas the Linear A is a syllabic and logographic script, so completely different from Phoenician, moreover the Phoenicians at the time weren't really the great sailors and explorers that they would become 1000 years later, in fact the earliest Phoenician colonies date to the 9th century bc, not to mention that much of Canaan was under the control of Egypt during the late bronze age, and before that during the Middle Bronze Age Byblos was pretty much under Egyptian control even back then, the Phoenicians didn't have the freedom they would enjoy from 1100 bc to 700 bc and the most important seafaring state in the Levant was Ugarit before that period, not the Phoenicians. 2)The reconstruction you put at 7:37 is that of the Mycenaean megaron in the palace of Pylos, so it isn't not Minoan.
Hi and thanks for stopping by and for your comments/corrections. Yes, I did make a few errors (others pointed out a couple of inconsistencies as well). I'm going to revise this video in the near future and perhaps even add to it. If I had to do all over again, I'd create a longer, more in-depth video. When I do, I'll include your corrections as well. Thanks, I really appreciate it. Any other questions/comments, please let me know!

Another theory is that Plato just made Atlantis up from scratch in order to teach a moral lesson. Kinda like C.S. Lewis and the Chronicles of Narnia. I learned about this theory from the video Overly Sarcastic Productions has on Atlantis.
I think that’s more or less what happened. Plato was not only a gifted philosopher, but also a really good world builder. Atlantis was one example of this, some of his other stories he made to tell his philosophies include the ring of Gyges, a story about a ring that turns its wearer invisible, which discussed the dangerous nature of power. Atlantis was an allegory on greed and imperialism, and how it leads to a society’s downfall. Course his students didn’t understand this and took it literally, this birthing the Atlantis myth.
So many interesting civilizations just collapse... it's sad. Also, I think the "bull worship" might actually be a Nanna-like god worship. Nanna (later Sin) was a Mesopotamian moon god and his symbol was a bull head. The one shown in this video is almost identical to the Sumerian bulls.
The bull's fur is actually the gas and dust clouds observed in front of the Milkyway, his horns are the moon. The double axe is another ancient moon symbol.
@Etruscans civilization Absolutely, you know your Minoans, your Mycenean and I'm guessing Pelasgians too? I see you know the Etruscans. We are in the minority on youtube but thats OK, knowing real ancient history without bias and racism is something many modern people struggle with, such is the intensity of their colonial conditioning. Are you working on any videos or anything like that regarding these people? I've started my own a while back and I want to make sure people have an another avenue to explore on youtube that is not a white-washed fantasy of the ancient Mediterranean
@Etruscans civilization I'm really suprised to see you creating a whole conspiracy about the color of their skin while the explanation is really simple. When it came to art Greeks had some standards for example men had to look a certain way(abs, perfect nose e.t.c) women(kinda curvy, full brows) same thing happens when it comes to pottery certain colour conventions were adopted such as white for female(ΚΟΡΕΣ) flesh, black for male(ΚΟΥΡΟΙ) you can see this technique of adopting certain styles of depiction in other ways too for example almond shape for women's eyes, circular for males, children are as adults but on a smaller scale, young men are beardless, old men have white hair.
@Etruscans civilization Also i would encourage you to see how black people are depicted by Greeks I mean if minoans were black wouldn't they be depicted the same way other blacks were depicted by Greeks?
Hi Cy. Nice intro to the Minoans, thanks for creating/posting it. However, my 2 cents: not a wise choice to muck up the imagery w/ a filter. "Watercolor" or "sumi" (ink edges) style... a popular effect in 1999 when everyone was Photoshop crazy. Really blurs out and cheapens it. I haven't watched any of your other vids to know if this is a regular occurrence, but I recommend you skip that in future videos to give them more "authenticity". The art, etc, is already beautiful, no need for embellishment.
Cool, thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it! I've been experimenting with different styles ... the more natural look is winning out at the moment mixed with some of my own modified artwork. Thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate it!
Sorry you might disagree but minoans are indeed a branch of the Indo aryan Lydians (Neo-Hittites) who were mixed with the Dravidians who are original Mediterranean and Sumerian people who are Canaanites . Lydians are the Hittites whose origin is also from the Akkadians and also when the Hittites became the Lydians they went into the mediterranean and we know them as the Minoans and Etruscans , the Hyksos are the Amalekites/Amorites/Imliq who had strong connection to the Minoans who were mixed with the Dravidians and the bull culture was derived from the dravidians who were in the west and east
wayne h corects the minoans dravidians after volcano erupted they fleed with ships in italy from crete and santorini the dravidians is ellamites old iranians cousin of roma gypsie indo iranians scityians and hittites very closest in sumer from time of hittites canaanites with cousin iranians dravidians
wayne h er isn’t that impossible to tell seeing as Linear A is as of now undeciphered and unintelligible when applying Indo european languages. It’s likely a language isolate, especially considering the first inhabitants arrived before Proto Indo European supposedly existed
‘At around 1200BCE’ the minoans disappear? Ummmm..anyone remember the Bronze Age collapse happened in 1177BC possibly because of ‘sea people’? Minoans = Sea People ??
Yeah this was one of the first videos I made as I was still learning how to record and adjust mic settings... have to make an update on this. Thanks for trying to watch!
More curious for an island, how is it possible to sustaine that kind extinct giant bulls. A population of giant ox must consumed lots vegetations and naturalresources.
I think it possible that the changes on the landscape on the island of Crete and other places in the Late Bronze Age world caused by the harvesting of structural and ship-building timber and unsustainable grazing of livestock may have resulted in environmental degradation, reducing the carrying capacity of the landscape which contributed to the demise of these societies.
I agree. I also really want to learn more about all the less popular greek city states, like argos, corinth, thebes and their colonies, and magna graecia
Relying on the principle that no one wants to be first but everyone want to be next, let me ask: What's up with those Minoan dresses? Why does no one comment on the dresses worn by Minoan women? Come on, you know what I'm talking about. I'm pretty caught up on archaeology and I know of no other culture where the women wore such elaborate dresses which don't even show a little ankle and yet were open in the front to where their breasts were not just exposed, but dramatized. I also noticed there are no more mature women in any of these paintings. Could this have been a form of advertising employed by young unmarried women? Maybe they stopped wearing this style once married. After a couple of babies and a few years...well...one might suspect a little support would have been appriciated; and why waste the wall space and perfectly good wet plaster on that? Where's the academy on this one? Art Department says, "yah," but the anthropologists, not so much. "Ah, we're academics. We do not comment on exposed breasts unless the woman depicted has six of them. Obviously this is a fertility goddess and we move on." But you see, that's just the point. Boobs then, as now, had to mean something other than ready milk dispensers and wearing dresses that had them just hanging out there was far more than the latest Paris influence. (Paris, of Troy, that is, who, according to Homer, was not much of a fighter but was really into female fashion design.). Since they were otherwise covered from head to foot and lived in a warm climate perhaps they thought boobs were natural radiators of heat. An idea, I am told, catching on with students interesting in natural health alternatives during Spring break in Daytona. Did it encourage birth rates which was always a front burner consideration of ancient cultures? Did it work; and if so should European societies consider it to address the problem that they are not reproducing to even a replacement rate? I think it's something worth considering and maybe even running a few social experiments with. Legalizing the public display of boobs might even put a dent in the growing prom industry. I say if it prevents just ONE teenager from getting hooked on internet porn then as a society it is well worth it. In the Bronze Age people didn't just make fashion statements. Everything was connected and said something about their culture, religion and world view. The "costume" is not only unique but has to be screaming something to us about their culture and consciousness yet everyone tip-toes around it. Why is that? To satisfy purely academic curiosity I want to know why their women hung their boobs out, did they ever experience the natural physiological response to a chill, where and how does this practice get started, and WHY IN BLOODY HELL IT STOPPED. Okay, we haven't cracked Linear A, but didn't some other civilization comment? Tourist trade perhaps. The boob thing works for Las Vegas. What' changed? Be interesting to learn the first translated writings on a Minoan pot shard read: "What happens on Crete, stays on Crete" "I booked a four day weekend at the Labyrinth hotel and spa for vacation." "Oh really? What's on Crete?" "Ah, the food. Yah. It's great. And they do this thing with bulls. Really great...that bull thing...they do." If other cultures didn't notice and comment then I'd like to know what that says about them since their women covered up their boobs. This is an odd practice even in the more sensual world of the Mediterranean Bronze Age and as far as I can imagine had no practical purpose. Or did it? There is some scant evidence the Egyptians did have an early version of National Geographic that featured Minoan culture in every edition. Think people. I know why I'd have come up with a design like that, which is pretty close to why I think wet tea-shirt contests are an under appreciated form of artistic expression; but I'm pretty sure that's not the same reason the Minoans had...or was it? And what does it say about us that no one is willing to take this on in a post graduate thesis? "The Minoan Boob Cult And The Sea People." Might be the first time a doctoral distortion, with fold out color research photos of Minoan dress reproductions being modeled, made it to the New York Times bestseller list; along with erudite editorials regarding the sudden and inexplicable explosion of interest in archaeology by average American readers. "Thanks to the, Minoan Boob Cult, book I have reconsidered my position on learning more about our past to better understand where we are now. In these unsettled times there may be lessons here that might teach us how to breast...best...organize our own society."
I know you're probably only half serious, but honestly, I think the answer is simple. The Minoans left their breasts bare because they simply didn't consider toplessness to be shameful and therefore had no reason to cover up. It used to be the same in Korea where, until the mid 20th century, Korean women traditionally wore clothes that covered most of their body except for their breasts, which they exposed for breastfeeding and/or to indicate to the public that they bore sons.
Minoans were a Matriarchy! Which means the Women were not in danger to be undervalued or raped but could embrace their bodies and not feel shame or fear. Something this video forgets to mention.... Or History in general. Guess in a Patriarchy no one wants to acknowledge that the first Great Civilisation in Europe was actually led by women and not men. Also in many many cultures, just except the European one, showing breasts in public is a normal thing and the women are not associated with a sexual object immediately.
Years ago I watched a documentary that laid out the case that the Minoans provided the inspiration for the story of Atlantis. Their advanced culture combined with the eruption of Santorini seems to fit the story.
Why don't you mention the fact, that this was a matriarchy? In almost all the paintings and depictions, women are always the dominant figures... A Matriarchy is quite rare, and it's quite stunning, that this is also Europe's first Civilization... why wouldn't you even state this fact at first and as one of the most special things about the Minoans? Apart from that, very informational video, thanks. :)
The idea that ancient societies existed that may have given women some measure of equality is comforting. I am not convinced that Minoan Society was matriarchal. Where is the evidence that other matriarchal societies have existed in the past? Are there any examples? I'd love that be so. For now I take comfort in the speculative positive role of women in Minoan society, and the seemingly greater autonomy and equality enjoyed by Spartan Women. The role of women in history is a subject worth examining. I think it possibly neglected my all the men writing and talking about it.
I have a hypothesis that the explosion and tsunami may have benefited the Mycenaeans by damaging potential rivals while seriously hurting the Minoans due to the loss of an important prosperous and strategically located port of call at Akrotiri. I discount the effect that a tsunami may have had on the Minoans. Most of their important structures where constructed well above sea level. They had been around for a long time. The geology of the Mediterranean Sea is such to make tsunamis relatively frequent. I think the Minoans knew about tsunami and took measures to reduce the damage from them.
@@andywomack3414 i don't know for but as a greek guy i think the damage was ecconomic they were fishermen and farmers and probably the erruption damged those two categories very much

A world without Kings, buildings and inner cities that were not particularly huge, that came later. For thousands of years, we as women are only just discovering ourselves again from patriarchy.
You never heard of Chadwick? How about H.G. Wunderlich ? Send a team of credentialed construction engineers to your Minoan palaces and you may get some interesting opinions. Works without fail. Anybody with the slightest knowledge of how construction materials work will attest that these palaces were never lived in. They are probably necropolises.

I'm really enjoying your videos. Good that you choose these interesting niche topics.
The DNA data I’ve seen, based on Autosomal/overall ancestry, shows that they have genetic continuity with modern day Cretans of between ~75-90%
Minoans and Mycenaeans were really close genetically.
Is there no thing like indigenous peoples . Surely the indoeurop..theory is not the only one introduced. Humanity all from one place, seems funny. My super theory is that life occured from different places all around the world.mixing at some times certainty. Mathematically nature led the way to homosapiens
@@JkrJolt Nope!
Minoans were neither indoeuropeans how could the the two people be genetically close?
What DNA analysis?
I find it interesting how the rise and fall of ancient empires often followed similar patterns. What lessons can we learn from their successes and failures?
In 1 of Emanuel Velikovsky's books (Ages in Chaos(?))he writes about Ipuwer, describing what could be the 10 plagues. Later it was suggested, that this could be the exposion of the former volcano Santorini, what is now the Egean Sea. This explosion should have taken place in ca. 1450 bc. Probably this event had some effect on the Minoan life......
Thank you for crediting the artwork!
There was a volcano.....the blowup of Santorini. A lot of damage and tsunamis that swept over Crete.

This is a really good presentation you earned my sub. Keep up the good work!

I came across your video... Someone had mentioned something about Minoans practicing Polyandry and so far I don't know still 👀...
They also have indus valley ancestry and big cultural impact on minoan.
I think I have read somewhere recently that Linear A has been decoded at least for the most part?
Do you know of the Cycladic civilization of the Aegean btw???

Btw the palaces were not palaces... they are public ritual, gathering, performance, religious, economic and possibly redistribution centers. Kingship probably existed during the Mycenaean occupation but not necessarily before.
woah didn't know that,so they had a free society?
Good question let me know the answer to it.
Persians once held control over anatolia.

Question did most parts of Europe entered the bronze age or there was a new age going on in Europe?
What about the Minoan people? Were they still inhabiting the island as natives during the Greek colonial period?
They were known to exist on Crete by the Greeks... e.g. in the Odyssey, book 19:
"There is a fair and fruitful island in mid-ocean called Crete; it is thickly peopled and there are nine cities in it: the people speak many different languages which overlap one another, for there are Achaeans, brave Eteocretans, Kydonians, Dorians of three-fold race, and noble Pelasgi."
So Homer knew of non-Greek inhabitants of Crete, including Kydonians (Kydonia is a toponym found on Lin A tablets and in classical times the name for modern Chania), Eteocretans - original inhabitants of Crete, and Pelasgoi, which probably refers to many different populations. Possibly one of them might be the people of the cycladic civilisation, but that's contentious, the term Pelasgoi seems to be used inconsistently by ancient authors, to refer to many different non-Greek speaking peoples.
According to DNA, modern Cretans are virtually identical
I LOVE these videos! Thank you! Do you think you might be able to do this for different native civilizations in America? I don’t think that there’s any like this.

Good video, but there are a few mistakes:
1) The Minoans couldn't possibly have taken their script from the Phoenicians.
Just curious, are the Minoans the real inspiration for the lost city of Atlantis?
Not sure... that'd be a good topic to research though!
How did Evans pick Knossos to dig?
So many interesting civilizations just collapse... it's sad.
Also, I think the "bull worship" might actually be a Nanna-like god worship. Nanna (later Sin) was a Mesopotamian moon god and his symbol was a bull head. The one shown in this video is almost identical to the Sumerian bulls.
The bull's fur is actually the gas and dust clouds observed in front of the Milkyway, his horns are the moon. The double axe is another ancient moon symbol.
Weren’t they wiped out at the same time as the sea people invasions?
Love the white frescoes, didnt fancy showing the brown and black ones did you
@Etruscans civilization Absolutely, you know your Minoans, your Mycenean and I'm guessing Pelasgians too? I see you know the Etruscans. We are in the minority on youtube but thats OK, knowing real ancient history without bias and racism is something many modern people struggle with, such is the intensity of their colonial conditioning. Are you working on any videos or anything like that regarding these people? I've started my own a while back and I want to make sure people have an another avenue to explore on youtube that is not a white-washed fantasy of the ancient Mediterranean
@Etruscans civilization you can't be serious right? You think that Minoans were black?
@Etruscans civilization First of all have you heard of ΚΟΥΡΟΣ and ΚΟΥΡΟΙ??

Phoenicians? Didn't they exist only many centuries after the Minoans?
@The Byzantinian they were actually the canaanites
It's theorized that they were one of the groups that made up the Sea people.
Interesting video but volume too low, unfortunately, so couldn't finish...
Yeah this was one of the first videos I made as I was still learning how to record and adjust mic settings... have to make an update on this. Thanks for trying to watch!
@@HistorywithCyonce you got your mic tech fixed, all good on the other videos! Excellent work. Thank you.
Crete sits on top off a plate so strong earthquakes were frequent and strong
Totally awesome!!
Thank you, glad you liked it! More to come soon!
Etruscians next?

Be interesting to learn the first translated writings on a Minoan pot shard read: "What happens on Crete, stays on Crete"
"I booked a four day weekend at the Labyrinth hotel and spa for vacation."
"Oh really? What's on Crete?"
"Ah, the food. Yah. It's great. And they do this thing with bulls. Really great...that bull thing...they do."
If other cultures didn't notice and comment then I'd like to know what that says about them since their women covered up their boobs.
Laia Meier A predicable feminist line and as usual completely unsupported by any evidence.
Good stuff!
Thanks man, appreciate it!
Years ago I watched a documentary that laid out the case that the Minoans provided the inspiration for the story of Atlantis. Their advanced culture combined with the eruption of Santorini seems to fit the story.
Not really, the ancient Mediterranean civilizations claimed Atlanta was a continent beyond the pillars of Gibraltar
If there were no migrations everyone would still live in Africa. Human movement (immigration) is a natural phenomenon
Terrific video !
Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate it!

Love the Minoans
Minions were an advanced culture.
7:05 the Phoenicians? you sure?
Why don't you mention BOOBS, that this was a freeboobscracy?
Because it wasn't. Most Minoan frescoes haven't survived and there's no evidence of matriarchy of sole female elite.
Man i am addicted to history.
Its amazing to imagination of ancient civilization. I wonder how they look like, there daily roitine.
Hey hey hey hey let's partay 🎉
A volcano erupted on santorini around that time
I have a hypothesis that the explosion and tsunami may have benefited the Mycenaeans by damaging potential rivals while seriously hurting the Minoans due to the loss of an important prosperous and strategically located port of call at Akrotiri.
@@andywomack3414 i don't know for but as a greek guy i think the damage was ecconomic they were fishermen and farmers and probably the erruption damged those two categories very much
@@nikosathanasopoulos8881 That as well. An eruption of such magnitude anywhere on the planet today could possibly have serious global economic consequences.

we learned about the minoans in middle school...
You didn't learn enough, that much I can assure you.
No, but we touched on it, learning they were one of the first civilisations, about minos and the labyrinths
That's true, they had a labyrinth. However, they did not have a man eating Minotaur. What they did have, is a problem with Greek's who never told the truth if a lie would sound more intriguing..ha
It's a great shame we know almost nothing about their language and might never learn it

BCE?? I think you mean BC.
Hi, thanks for stopping by. No, I meant BCE because it's used more in academia nowadays...just to be consistent.
Thanks and have a great day!
BCE Stands for Before common era, a replacement for BC. CE, common era, is now a replacement for AD. The reason for these replacements are perhaps because to get rid of the religious connections in academia.
@@sassydee7842 but that's just being in denial. Because regardless its referring to the arrival of Jesus in history.
