      Nice. The cold is to help them form bulbs, not to grow greenery btw. That doesnt meant they wont do well.

    I grow mostly hard neck in zone 7 but tried 6 soft neck last year with my hard neck in the fall and only 3 did well. So this year I put 6 soft neck in with my winter carrots under my mini poly tunnel and they all came up nicely. Won't know until I harvest and see what they look like but I'm hopeful. This may be an alternative if you want to plant soft neck in the fall in a colder zone.

    I took the garlic my family bought and forgot about and planted the cloves last year. I saved the tiny bulbs, left some in-ground to overwinter, and planted out the little bulbs last month. The overwintered garlic started growing in the snow, and the mini bulbs started growing last week. Unfortunately, the rats around here love garlic, so keeping them out has been interesting.

      that's interesting. I live in an urban area right behind some restaurants so there are plenty of rats around here. they have left my garlic alone last year and so far this year (though the squirrels have been digging my beds and yard like crazy). maybe they're just getting their fill of garlic from the pizzeria next door :p

    I really like how you explain things, very simple and doable for a 1st time gardener like me. Planted about 30cloves last Dec and they’re all doing fine. And realized it wouldn’t hurt to add more. So I have a few pieces of cloves already rooted, ready to be planted outside. My question is, I’m also in zone 7(VA) and the temperature is UP-DOWN. Can I still place my rooted cloves inside the fridge until I’m ready to plant them outside?

    I planted garlic rather late and into the begining of this year and although they seem to be coming on by seeing the green stalks of them above the earth, I am concerned how they will actually be as we had such a great amount of rainfull here in England/UK, for so many months, however WHEN IT HAD BEEN SOMEWHAT DRIER I DID WATER in some Liquid Seaweed FERTILIZER
    what is your take on this kind of fertilizer in the way of helping them please?
    Thanking you for the great gardening video's and in anticipation of hearing from you.

    • @THERUSTEDGARDEN
      @THERUSTEDGARDEN  2 місяці тому +1

      Well it's not really easy to say because temperature, rain, and plant size plays into it. If you soil drains fairly well, you really can over water. We tend to under water. Enough water to soak in the top 6 inches. But could be 2-3xs a week,
