Ive got a Trostani myriad deck, so i can populate the myriad token which doesnt get sacrificed, leading to more and more myriads. An encorred Soul of Eternity with an Ocelot Pride is crack
With Trostani, there's few interesting bits of side tech you can include that make for some interesting options, if someone drags combat off the table as an option: Helm of the host: it's kinda obvious here, but it gets around the mirror gallery issue by producing non-legendary copies of the equipped creature. One Trostani is a headache... Closing a turn with 3, or more, demands an answer. Also, it lets you mass-produce Marit Lages if unanswered. Altar of the Brood and Altar of Dementia: As long as you're getting bodies on the board, you're draining off cards from your opponents. They're also cheap enough for Sun Titan and/or Teshar to grab from the graveyard. I assure you, nobody's going to be expecting the Selesnya deck to be playing Dimir strategies.
"Serra Avatar" and "Soul of Eternity" are lovely there :D Especially with "Bramble Sovereign" in the field (to create copies of those) and "Surestrike Trident" to make use of that much power!
I really liked the tech to put exiled stuff into your graveyard to replay them for trostani! Im unsure if you've covered the master, formed anew. But using duskmourn and murders at Karlov manor cards to manifest/cloak your library to cheat out huge bombs, that you can just keep casting, like thieving amalgam, valgavoth and abhorrent oculus has been my personal favourite build around. The value a card like cryptic coat gets here is absolutely bonkers.
Suspend would work fine with Obeka but it’s not really any less of a monolith Commander deck concept. It would be much slower without the extra upkeeps much the same as with courts or the initiative. Being blocked is not much of a concern for an Obeka deck (it will include sufficient evasion options to ensure it can attack in case everyone has 2 creatures able to block) like winged boots. It also helps that the Monarch and Initiative end up in play, which creates some chaos as players want to attack and steal them from opponents rather than focusing too much on you.
The Trostani deck idea reminds me a lot of MTG Mudstahs Trostani Reanimator list. Which also includes some channel favorite cards like Seance and God Pharaoh's Gift. Its actually gotten more support with myriad, green self mill, and some artfiacts that make token copies of creatures. Tho my version did feel kinda "plate spinny" I might build it again with legendary creature tokens too!
Haven't really been inspired recently. Starting to get burned out a bit. But, I always appreciate unique commander ideas. Something that gets the gears going.
My friend did a Trostani Seance deck and it was pretty great, so much so that I reused his idea for the 5cmc Ghired, so I could have access to the red temp token creators.
toxic scales really badly in EDH imo... most toxic creatures only have Toxic 1 (very few playable ones with Toxic 2), so a 10 turn clock PER opponent is really not that great. If you want to go with poison, go with Infect. Toxic is reallyyyy underwhelming in EDH.
Farrell's Mantle is one of those rare Fallen Empires cards that Commander actually makes good. Attack player B, with their permission, get an attack trigger if you need it and throw the damage at player C or D's creature that's a problem.
me, using Kamiz for a proliferation based deck because I want the card draw, counters, and a way to make something unblockable. there's the added benefit of people not being too afraid (which I really had to balance throughout the entire deck, which is why he's not a poison/proliferate deck)
I have your legendary token theme in Boros with Duke Ravengard myriad. Myriad is a repeatable way to make legendary tokens, but then we use sac outlet for legendary rule. Great cards are kamigawa dragons with dies triggers.🎉
Dude I've had a tameshi deck for YEARS, since he was released and ive never been able to make it work and how have I never noticed his first effect doesnt only apply to ME holy smokes I was just about to scrap the deck entirely but whew now i got a new direction
I actually did a landfall deck with tameshi, I loved it but it was pretty oppresive, I ran stuff like storm cauldron and tameshi makes it pretty hard to permanently get rid of.
"Followed Steps", "Extravagant Replication", "Replicating Ring", "Ancestral Vision", "Tamiyo's Journal" (and "Disciple of the Vault" for life loss), "Creeping Bloodsucker" are all fantastic addition there :D And some Curses, because why not
For Tameshi we have also gotten a few new cards that supports the strategy, think there is even a standard deck that is all the rage that plays into strategy of returning permanents to hand to replay them for value with cards like nurturing pixie and fear of isolation. It could be a source of inspiration?
I made my genku deck (yes with tameshi in the 99 because he rocks) return to hand and self sacrifice baubles Showed the idea to a friend and he said "this would probably work better as a blink deck" Yes obviously but there are like 8 better blink commanders in these colors
Congrats, man! You'll be at 70k before you know it, lol. You've got a great mix of content week to week with wonderful insights. It's fun to scroll through the comment sections of these videos, too! I love seeing the community come together in this space =)
I know its not the point of what you're doing with her, but for Obeka you got to include Darksteel Reactor for the alternate win-condition and Hatred for the out-of-nowhere instant win.
I build my Tameshi mainly around the first ability. I even play lands like Karoo, in there since they make it easy to get the bounce trigger. I'm shocked however I forgot to add Genku, Future Shaper to my deck after Modern Horizons 3.
@@moedark4390 I laid the focus a bit more on landfall. Especially with Roil Elemental to steal the haymkers of my opponents. In addittion to this I play some small artifacts for Tameshi's second ability and use Kappa Cannoneer as beater. But it's not the best Win Con, so I'm also still struggling. That's why Genku, could be a good addition to create a small army of tokens.
I'm debating with myself if Prosper, Tome Bound would be a good inclusion. It's one of those instances that, "It works, but is it too cute? It works, but is it just a bit too far removed from the main plan?"
@@crawdaddy1234 the problem is that If you're casting from suspend with obeka your deck is at its maximum Power already, creating a treasure token becomes a marginal benefit. Maybe If you play him just as generic draw engine its ok.
I think the benefit of including Prosper is that if Obeka is repeatedly removed, the treasure generation and card advantage can help get your game plan back on track. It’s no Dockside Extortionist but that’s not really an option now aside from rule 0. I think it would work well within the suspend and cast from exile focus but if you were playing a lot of the courts or the initiative, that would be a lot of exiled cards that may whiff more or less.
I am relatively new to mtg, could you please elaborate more on your Obeka strategy for newbies? Why is red, blue, black good with suspend and instant/sorcery/exile stuff and how does it make it less Obeka dependent? Isn't suspend highly dependent on time counters and therefore the upkeep triggers of Obeka?
I think the idea is to build a typical suspend + cast from exile deck in Grixis. If Obeka triggers, great. if not, it is just a classic suspend + cast from exile deck. I think Red and Blue are great suspend colours. Black mainly adds some removal and tutors. It would probably function alot like a cast from exile Abaddon deck with more focus on speed and less reliance on dealing damage to function.

So, question for you. With Kamiz, if I build up using your strategy and give one of those unblocked creatures double strike, am I correct that you can trigger their ability twice? They would technically have two combat phases since they attack during the first strike and normal combat phases.
@@edhdeckbuilding You sure? : Double strike is an evergreen keyword ability that allows a creature to deal combat damage twice per combat phase - once during the first combat damage step, along with any creatures that have first strike, and again during the second combat damage step along with creatures that have neither keyword.

I have tameshi as my azorius stax commander lol I had grand arbiter but it drew a lot of ire, and I noticed the common card type was artifact/enchantments, and they got removed to often lol. Plus I can draw even if I skip draw steps reliably. I just throw in burnished hart and wayfarer's Bauble and wait until I get 5 or so lands and lock the board. But I do play into the top ability, all of my removal is bounce at instant speed, so
I would think any STAX deck will draw a lot of ire. 😂 Grand Arbiter just does it before it is even in play so that your opponents know it is STAX and to kill you quickly. If you were playing with the same people, I’m not sure it would make a difference once they know the deck. If you are not removing a STAX deck quickly, it’s often poor threat assessment (unless everything else is somehow worse).
@Dragon_Fyre very true, but grand arbiter draws more than his fair share of ire, just by himself regardless of the type of deck. Idk how many times I sat down to play, someone would see my commander and immediately target me before i say what my deck is about. You are right, if properly assessed, tameshi leading a stax deck is probably more a threat than generic ol grand arbiter. But getting a few turns before my opponents see what's up is very valuable when trying to win with Approach of the second sun, my wincon for the deck
@Dragon_Fyre but I will disagree with you on one point. Removing the stax deck first is not necessarily the best move because stack stax look to win in the late game. If you see a rush or agro deck you want to attack them and destroy them first. The stax deck on the other side of the table can help you beat out a krenko deck or a korvold deck. But generally yes you are correct
@@my_dude_5742 Typically the STAX setup should occur relatively quickly. The STAX player then has the necessary time to setup the wincon. I did note that it would depend on the other opponent’s but STAX is typically IMO a high threat. You want to get as much damage in early as possible before the deck makes it difficult to do so. If you wait for the lock setup, it will likely be too late. It also depends on my own deck (some decks have few answers to STAX, others have many) but chances are at least 1-2 of your opponents should perceive it as quite a problem for their own wincon. I get the same response to my sliver deck. Most players with experience know that by the time they see the threat, I have already won. So I have to be able to address that I can often be archenemy before I even play a land.
@Dragon_Fyre 99% of the time I fully agree, kill the stax player lol. But if my opponent plays a magus of the moat and my other opponent has 10 10/10s, I'll probably let the magus sit around for a second lol. It may just be me but I would rather face a stax deck than a turn 3 I win deck with thoracle
