Stunning car, rare as well
Other than the lifter noise this DeSoto is utterly gorgeous inside and out, especially with that great color scheme.
I was 10 when my Dad bought a new ’55 Firedome. He’d been hauling lots of Chrysler products for M&G Convoy and wanted a Chrysler 300 but settled for the Desoto. A few years later, the whole family being spirited along in the blue Firedome, my younger brother reached over from his spot in the middle of the front seat, grabbed at the dash-mounted gear change lever, and shoved it into reverse at maybe 60 mph
After the hollering, screeching and gesticulating had ceased, my Dad put the Torqueflite back into drive and off we went. No trans issues ever developed (at least until I got hold of the car when I turned 16). I always lusted after the grille for my 47 Ford Tudor.
’55, definitely one of DeSoto’s best years. Low slung, clean look with that toothy grill, the Hemi and that beautiful gull wing dash. Love the color. It belongs in my garage (I wish).
Make space in your garage, send me a cheque and the DeSoto is yours! 👍
@@StefanOberhuber That is a beautiful car, Stephan. Alas, my mouth is bigger than my garage. lol Best wishes!
I really love the style of this model. If I was in the market for an antique car I would definitely be looking around for one of these 55 DeSoto Sportsman's.
Hi Stan, though I am not into US-cars so much I really like the style of this one. Your Opel GT is very nice btw!
What a beautiful car.
Thank you! It is beautiful and it's still for sale ;-)
@@StefanOberhuber The designers of that car hit the buying public with some very classy styling. This 55 Fireflite has a Corvette style toothy grille. Then, the hood is pancake style, a hot-rodding favorite. The roof is a very nice flowing design and the C-pillars are so graceful and they are tipped with a neat swoosh. Wow! The shorty tailfins are just the right style and size. Just a wonderful design and a great color combination. Sorry, I can't afford a fourth car.
I've really liked this car after I saw Jimmy Stewart driving one in Vertigo. That one was a 56. This engine has clacking valves or lifters, but heck, can't complain about that. The exhaust looks perfectly normal. The car is beautiful.
My grand pa's last car was a 1951 DeSoto. I wish he had live long enough to get one of these!
I am a child of the 50's, this car, brand new was around $2600.00, worth every penny!!
Dude, Mama had this car when I was 11 years old and it's the car in which I got my driver's license.!!!
Dual exhaust and no tappet noise.
Sure would like to find one here - USA
Hi Jerry, that's nice to hear! So lots of emotions coming up. I think they are hard to find, especially in a good condition. Keep on searching, dude!
The '55 DeSoto was the best design for '55. Although the '55 Chevy is very close.
You have to love the position of the shift lever.
It's a bit special, indeed ;-)
I just always hated the fact that they did not have a park position.
That is one sweet sweet 55. Would love so much to have this in my collection...A 55 DeSoto 😎
It’s for sale and can be yours soon 😉
@@StefanOberhuber Would love to make that move and make her mind but now's not a good time.
My agenda for the moment and long term is 24-karat Gold 🪙.
Thanks but no thanks.
@@vaughnmiller4371 The DeSoto is 24 karat garage gold ;-)
Pretty car. Needs duals with subtle chrome turndowns instead of that single pipe
Its personal taste I think. The current owner likes it this way. But maybe you're right ;-)
Fabulous.
Thank you, Simon!
More than beautiful.....nice car u hav
Got my 55 in the shop, getting engine re-done transmission re-done also, converting from 6V to 12V ,electronic distributor cap.
Can't wait for the heat to roll in and cruise with the wife by my side.
Fix that noisy lifter!
How u it's got lifters 🏋️♀️ 🤔 🤣 the exhaust must about 1inch system old cars started the noisy lifters craze. Your new cars sound like a sowing machine like LS etc synthetic oils. Just but some thicker oil in 🤣
@@christianmiddleton7738Needs an engine doctor kit
Do you charge extra for the rod knock noise? Is that a factory option that adds mechanical value that we Desoto lovers don't know about?
👍🏻🇦🇺💯
Опорат супер👍
Fix the exhaust leak
Needs a valve job.
Sounds like it has some made in china lifters in it. Other than that, Beautiful car!
EVERYTHING IS PERFECT EXCEPT THE HOOD. HOOD NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED
Hood is not closed. Just laid it down. 👍
@@StefanOberhuber OK KU 😎 DIDNT KNOW THAT
Stand back she’s gonna blow…🥺
Bummer no clock. Chrysler cars were kind of scanty on these(almost never offered as standard)
Check the oil !

I LOVE THIS CAR
4. $ALE???
PLEASE HOW MUCH $
Hi Andrew, thank you for your interest. It can be yours for a negotiable € 48.000,00. Regards, Stefan
Are you selling this Desoto, or are you keeping it for sentimental reason's?
From a back alley hammer mechanic's point of view, the reason the car is so noisy- is because you didn't install a dual exhaust system on this Hemi Road Runner, and you didn't turn the volume up to full blast on the AM radio. Use thicker 50 weight bulk engine oil, and natural bee honey in the crankcase - and call it a good day. Fix the tap dance machine already. How embarrassing to video a beauty like this. Don't you have any pride or shame? I wouldn't buy a broken pencil or a rubber band from you. WHY? Because the broken pencil and the rubber band would be tooo noisy.
Tappets. Big problem with that year V8.
Eeech.. what have you got, a diesel in there ? 291 may need mechanical attention, yoy !
Really cool car..not sure if the color does it justice.
Color is always a matter of taste. I like it as it makes the car look elegant.
@@StefanOberhuber Makes the automobile look like it's parked in front of a hotel in New York City. Just waiting for the lady in a silk gold evening dress to step out, sapphire earrings, and sheen white rain hair. That or a early 50s style suitskirt, striped flare down one of the collars, a mink over "scarf", christian dior style hat, and a matching luggage set.

Basically a good looking car, but let's tidy the decorations up a bit - start by getting rid of those chrome extensions running backwards from the headlamp rims.
No
don't sound good . Idle is to high . Something ain;t good hear. Pass
The hydraulic lifters become more silent when the engine is warm. No problem at all.
Wow! That sounds horrible! Fix the noise first, then make a video.
Loose or cracked exhaust manifold.(?)
