  • Who do you think of as a "broken" character? Guts? Thorfinn? Eren, even? Today I break down what makes characters- who have undergone such severe tragedy, and reached their breaking point- amazing, and utterly beloved by readers and watchers alike. Going into manga like Berserk, Vinland Saga, and even anime like Steins; Gate, come listen!

Broken side characters often steal the show from the main characters! A sad back story always seems to hit viewers in the heart

Because it feels realistic and people can relate to it because a perfect life doesn't exist and no matter what fantasy world the characters belong to, pain and tragedy will always be a integral part of it and it should...

While all these characters try to conquer their dark and depressing selves. Punpun could be an example of what NOT to do when you're broken.

@@dylanhertzog9816 It's my favourite manga. Yeah, you've heard right, but even if it's painful, I think it's an experience worth having. It's simply beautiful. Hope you like it.

Broken characters are the best way to tell a story, its through trauma and pain that a man finds the means to grow more and more and achieve his purpose.
Seeing these characters is so inspiring and motivating,it's just struggle.
Boxing and getting beaten is pain yet we continue
Weightlifting is pain yet we continue
Dieting is pain yet we continue
Delaying pleasure for purpose is pain yet we continue
I have nothing but respect for the skinny overworking authors like miura who sacrificed so much to bring such needed and masculine stories that inspire young men and give them a purpose to be great and healthy strong aggressive males.
This is what a story is about, feeling the pain.

    he did not pursue godhood
he just wanted a castle or how is it feel living in one
Griffith is also lonely until he met Guts
but Guts left him anyway, which turn him hopeless and screw hiw own plan by sleeping with the princess
Guts also the one to blame from the end of band of hawk

    • @thund3rbird738
      @thund3rbird738 Рік тому +2

The whole point of Berserk is that every single person has free will, and can resist their temptations, be it anger, lust, or vengeance.
Griffith was shocked that Guts went away because he basically didn’t believe that it was possible, Guts was the only one who made Griffith forget his dream, be vulnerable, be the actual Griffith and not the leader of the Band of the Hawk that he molded himself to be.
Literally, the whole Berserk story might not have happened if they just talked over things on the second duel they had. Griffith didn’t want to let go the only person who made him feel human, who literally opposed his dream, and who was his only equal.
And im the broken state of mind, after seeing his facade fall, him lose everything in a matter of days, of course he would want a fast solution to either end him, or to get powerful enough that no one can oppose him.
Griffith is absolutely in the wrong here

Johan Liebert in the thumbnail of the vídeo,is he broken?
    He continued to love
Anna. Most of the other feelings were taken by the people of Kinderheim 511, just as they took the feelings of Grimmer, Roberto and that "friend" Johan. After all, the
The goal of Kinderheim 511 was to create the perfect soldiers, who would be emotionless machines and
L without family, without home and without past. For Johan, Anna, other feelings were taken away by the people of Kinderheim 511, just as they took away the feelings of Gr immer, Roberto and that "friend" of Johan. After all, the goal of Kinderheim 511 was to create the perfect soldiers, who would be emotionless machines with no family, no home and no past. For Johan, Anna and him are two parts of one thing. He says "What I fear most is... forgetting Anna. The strange lessons we have every day... are making my memories fade. Please don't make me forget Anna. It’s just Anna and me in this whole world. Just give it to me - please. Please.” -Johan Liebert”
I was very confused about the complexities of Johan's character until the last few episodes. It was very clear to me that Johan was suffering the entire time. Everything he did, even though it was wrong, was for Anna.
(Yes, this includes erasing yourself from existence too)
Anna was created from the beginning to become the “Monster,” as she was the one who actually endured the experiments. Her tendencies are shown in glimpses throughout the show. The painful twist in this... is that the only reason she didn't become the beast was because SHE (unlike Johan) KNEW LOVE. -Johan's love and sacrifice was what kept her safe from the darkness he knew too well. He got her hands dirty to protect her. He chose to leave her in the care of her adoptive parents, knowing she would forget him, to heal.
He chose her over himself again and again; becoming his shadow; choosing to lose her only attachment to her already weakened identity in order for her to heal.
With his distorted way and view of things, he was protecting her. He killed every “fatherly” figure they had because he was betrayed by every adult figure in his life so far. The people who mentioned calling the police ended up finding out about his past - anything that could lead the man, who Johan referred to as “The Monster,” to find them, he scrapped.
The adults in their lives thus far would betray them, torture them, hurt them, throw them away - and forcibly separate them. In his severely abused mental state, any adult figure was a potential threat to his and Anna's safety. So he would kill to escape the “monster” and protect Anna. So when Anna found out about the blood on his hands that fateful night the Monster visited them, he realized that he had now become someone Anna feared - a different kind of Monster, but all similar to the one they were running from.
So he rationalized that now he needed to die.
At this point, I think we should focus on his body language and expressions. Johan faced the ground. barely looking up. His shoulders were slumped and he didn't have that menacing smile he normally had. Johan killed in secret several times with Anna and in Kinderheim.
So why was he so confused about the Lieberts?
Because he didn't want to kill them - he said HE HAD TO.
It wasn't a calculated murder, because he wasn't truly calm and collected; He was afraid.
Let's not forget who Johan was up until that moment: the infamous little boy who caused an entire riot and massacre simply by opening his mouth. With mere words he was able to convince adults and children to do what he wanted. BUT AT THAT MOMENT when Anna caught him in the act, he couldn't, or rather, wouldn't - try to manipulate Anna.
(He was never shown trying to manipulate or abuse her throughout the series, as he intentionally did to the rest of the world.)
Instead, he asked her to shoot him and run away - in an attempt to finally free her from the horrible life they had to lead until now - blaming her existence on the constant persecution that their predator (Boneparte) gave way to them as prey. because at that moment, his memories were distorted and he believed that he was the one who went to the Red Roses Mansion
For Johan, living was a danger for Anna and that night made it clear to him.
But when he was brought back to life and realized the gravity behind his methods, seeing how terrified Anna was of him, he began to cry. Because despite his initial feelings of finding her death absolutely necessary for her to be safe, he still wanted what he had with her; the only bond of love he has ever known.
What set his entire ADULT plan into action (eliminating everyone who hurt Anna and raised him) was Anna's rejection at the hospital. (I also believe that back then, when they were children, Johan's first plan that he referred to when he told Anna “Remember, I have a plan.” Was to run to another country with her so that the Monster would never find them. It's the only logical idea of a plan a child could come up with following what it actually leads him to do, which was to cross the border. Simply destroying the world is unachievable in its current state and Johan is smart enough not to delirious in his efforts. That said, he had to kill that elderly couple to erase any trace they might have left of “two beautiful blonde twins.”
Johan tells Anna he has a plan.
I want to VERY EMPHASIZE the important factor I missed the first time I watched the scenes with Johan/Anna - the scenes we were shown were ONLY through her memories as fragments due to her memory loss. They were informed by what she COULD remember, so her opinion about what actually happened on that rainy night the first few times the events unfolded before us should not be taken as absolute. At least ...until it's revealed in the final episodes that Anna realized that that night, instead of looking like an empty shell of a person asking for death, Johan was crying and crying before shooting him.
The scene where Anna finds the portraits reveals what really happened between them and is so important. She said that “Johan was crying “here” like before.” She was imitating a memory that she had just recalled in full. "Why are you crying, why are you crying?" She looked distressed. Right after she reveals that she remembers him crying, the image appears of him pointing to his head that rainy night.
