I've had my spark for just over a year. Is it slow? Sure, but for someone who doesn't have children, doesn't carry their friends around and travels back and forth to work daily, the Spark is genius. It fits everywhere and I've gotten 50+MPG in my 1LT automatic. This car is not rated as worst car anywhere. In fact its one of the highest rated in the segment. Do your research before dismissing it.
Thats cool and all that you like it. I'll say though as some one also interested in smaller cars and only really cars about driving to and from work and the store, that commute does include some time on highways. That acceleration time really makes me nervous and my last car was a pos geo metro that took forever to get to speed too. At the same price some one can buy a nissan versa (which i'm planning on doing) and have a just a bit of extra power in their vehicle, enough to be comfortable merging into faster traffic. No its not a sports car, and a certain lack of power is expected, but at a certain point it becomes dangerous if you don't have enough. I've had to be very generous with my old car with how much room i gave myself to make turns/ merge in, simply because I know it lacked acceleration, but the spark makes my geo practically look a muscle car.
This is a highly rated car, it is the safest out of 11 mini cars reviewed. It may not have great pick up, but I easily do 90 in this car on the highway. Yes, ON THE HIGHWAY! It is not simply a city dwelling car. I bought my spark brand new in 2013. It is the most basic version of the car you can get, meaning no power locks, no infotainment system, no cruise control, USB ports, or heated seating. Simply cause I needed to keep the cost down on the car. I have driven this car from Cincinnati, OH to Springfield, MO and back two different times. That is a 9 hour drive each way and it did perfectly fine. I often carry four people in this car with no problem. I often receive comments that it feels bigger on the inside then it looks from the outside. It rides very well and personally I'm not such a snob as to care about the hard plastic you seem to have such a problem with. This is a great car and very well priced.
I have a question about this because I'm thinking about buying this as my very first car. I want to know how much did you pay on your car and have you paid for the car monthly?
Since mine is such a basic version of the car, I paid around 14 to 15 some thousand with taxes. I was able to get the monthly payment down to 200 a month.
Thank you so much I really needed to know. By the way I am a 6 feet tall guy and I love micro cars, the one thing this man have not explained in the video is how it can benifit tall people as well. Have you had friends that was tall as 6 feet that fit in your car? Last but not least how does wheel feel base on the handling and can the car plug in any smart phones besides the iphone?
Yes my cousin is 6 ft 3. I don't know what phones can plug in because I don't have the infotainment system. I got the very basic version so I can't charge any phone. I just have an aux outlet
I've had my 2013 Chevy spark now for 9+ years. To me, it drives like any normal car. It doesn't have a whole lot of power, but it has enough to do all the normal tasks a road car should do. I've driven it on many highways. The only highways I've been on that put strain on the car is the hills outside of Pittsburgh, PA. It's tough to maintain 70 in 5th gear in that area.
BeautyBodyMod yes !!@ ive pushed it up to 90, 100,, on the speedo... it was awesome..although not for the faint of heart..this car is a little warrior in my book
I have a 2014 model i bought from my dad. Its been a good car and it cruises on the highway at 80 miles an hour here in Montana. Mine came in this exact green color to
I think you're being slightly harsh, I bought my 2013 spark ls jalepeno 4spd auto with 3 miles on it and im at 65000 now. Been to WV twice. the car is fine as long as you know how to drive ( by that I mean if you're doing 30mph getting onto a highway dont wait until youre out of space to accelerate) and with its small size I enjoy this little thing bobbing and weaving out of traffic at about 90mph. By the way for those who want to know the top speed is about 104 flat ground, ive gotten it to about 112 down hill
My neighbor has this car. I used to look down on them till I sat in it, surprisingly roomie interior thanks to the y’all roof and also very practical with the hatch. I have a much bigger 4 door sedan but this Spark is more practical than my car when you fold the back seats. We went to Ikea and I respected the car. And all the hidden cubbies on the dashboard makes it great. If I was in he market I’d definitely buy one.
My Chevy spark is slow as a snail, but I can do 10 trips between my place and my parents home 45 minutes away on 30 litres of gas. My dad’s tundra with the 4.6 v8 uses 30L(sparks entire gas tank) just doing the round trip once. It’s honestly such a good cheap car to own and run. I’ve not had one single mechanical problem on my 2015 since new.
One comment about acceleration. WHO CARES?! People who buy this car don't want Corvette! This car was NOT made to have a amazing acceleration. I just drove it with 4 people inside and I have no ANY issues with getting to HW and accelerate and my rpm's were about 3.5k MAX, I did 70mph on HW no issues.
Mole I'm glad I read this comment! I'm looking to buy this car but when I heard that, I got nervous because I like to travel to different cities. Thanks!
If you have any questions about Spark I would be happy to answer. We drive it for last 7 months and we did... about 12000 miles :). This includes 3 trips (each about 1000 miles), winter driving etc.
bracdude181 I'm 6.2 so I put my see quite far back. Trunk plus seat will hold almost as much as my old Chevy impala in the trunk (only trunk). so if you don't mind stuff on the back seat... there is plenty of space. BTW. there is ONE thing I don't like about Spark, it is very soft plastic inside.. VERY easy to scratch - terrible actually. We just did 19000 and no mechanical issues.
POOR REVIEW in my opinion. I have had my Spark for 16 months/43k Miles. The car is well at home on the highway and does not ever get blown around by other vehicles. The car gets great gas mileage and makes a great "chase the kids" vehicle when it comes to ball games or other activities. As far as the top speed it goes fast enough to get you a ticket on the highway lol. I have had no issues with my car. It goes in the snow just fine other than setting low to the ground. These guys that review cars that know nothing about them crack me up. Like this guy. The Spark is exactly what it is designed to be. A basic car, nothing more nothing less. If you want more cushy options and more power great then this is not the car for you. But if you want an A to B car that will do everything you ask of it well...It works great for me and has for 43,000 miles.
Raven Bird Thats how all Floridians here drives. I hate that !!! i get so mad when people cut me off and not blink the lights. I guess a lot americans dont use at all. lol

So our Fiat 500 Sport was dying a slow death and it was hit and totaled. So to replace it we purchased a used 2013 Spark with low miles and didn't do a very detailed test drive. It was on the way home we realized the Fiat with its compromised engine was still faster than this basically new Spark.
I hate to say it but I would easily rock one of these, its cheap, edgy and offers some cool features for what it is. My first car had 65 hp and a 4 speed manual so I feel like 84 with a 5 speed couldn't be any worse.
I bought my 2013 Spark new in January of 2013 from Delillo Chevrolet Huntington Beach. For a grocery getter it does have good acceleration through the first 2 gears (automatic transmission) and as long as you keep the revs up it's not bad through 3 and 4 gears. Of course, it's not going to be a street scorcher. I have to disagree with you on driving it on the freeway. I was a courier in the LA/Orange county area and I was constantly on the freeways. There was a lot of bumper to bumper but when things opened up it got the job done. Sometimes driving down to San Diego to make deliveries. I can honestly say I never was pushed around by big trucks because I was always passing them lol. In 2017 I moved to Texas. I got a job in the oilfields. And at least once a month I drove round trip from Midland, Tx, my workplace, to my house in El Paso which was near 300 miles. The speed limit is 80 miles an hour. This car did 80 without breaking a sweat for all those hundreds of miles. However, if the head wind was strong enough I did have trouble maintaining that speed. For 280,000 miles the car was absolutely trouble free. Unfortunately, in December of 2021 the years and milage caught up to it. It was out of service for about a month and it hasn't been the same. Though I'm no longer in the oilfields I still drive it to and from work here in El Paso. But it's road tripping days and it's long and hard freeway driving are over. I'm hoping to get a 2023 Chevy Bolt in the near future. If someone can find a 2013 Chevy Spark with low miles I'd say jump on it as fast as you can. 🚙 🇺🇸
Working on it, we just got access to GM for press cars. Next month, we will be getting the 2014 Buick Encore and 2014 Chevrolet Silverado so keep a lookout for those reviews :)
My older sister had a identical car right down to the color. She got a job in California right out of veterinary college and needed someone to drive her car plus her two German shepherds and Bernese Mountain Dog from Wisconsin. Hummed right along at 75 mph with the A/C on without a problem. Certainly not a luxury sports sedan but it was never meant to be. My sister drove hers in and around L.A. for 150 K mostly trouble free miles.
We actually filmed this before the M3, had it been the other way around, we probably would have said this car felt even slower. The Mini Cooper is around the same size but you're correct, it's much more expensive and sort of fits into its own class.
If you compare the specs to an NA Miata, It isn't that much slower. The Spark's 0-60 is a little over 10 seconds, while the Miata's is a little under 10 seconds. The only problem is the Miata is 30 years old.
Chris Ayres I got stuck with a Chevy spark in Florida and I told the rental company I need a different car and their reply is we simply don’t have any. I ended up taking that thing out to the beach and had so much fun. Sometimes you just don’t know what you like until you actually try it out.
@@flyingrv6 Problem is they are nearly 10 years old now and most I guess have fallen apart by now lol 😂 as GM not exactly known for good quality cars 🙈
This car is made for those that want to buy inexpensive yet tough vehicles, it is no surprise it has proven so popular in places with challenging driving conditions like India and Russia. I own a 2013 manual, and it handles city and highway driving with ease. The only thing I would fault this car is in the clutch setup, it is very soft and has a very long travel, it has taken me months to get used to it. Judging this kind of vehicle based on a test drive in an automatic is unfair, tiny engines do not do well with automatics, this is why, the world over, the Spark manual is the choice.
ive owned mine for over 5 years and 84hp isnt much but to get around 100hp out of this car all i did was muffler delete(this may be too loud for some) drop in K&N air filter and a stage 6 ebay performance chip.
We drive our Spark all over. We've been to Minneapolis, Kansas City, Cincinnati and we get upwards of 45 mpg. Ours is a 2014. We love it. Wondering mileage? 165 to Mpls, 500 to KC, 900 to Cinncy.
+Clay Rundquist I recently purchased a '14 Spark and I saw your comment and was wondering how many times you've had to fuel up and such on a long distance trip? I've only done commutes so far. Have a good day.
Typically, we drive 300 to 350 miles before we fill up on a trip. I personally don't like to push it too far. When we drive to the Twin Cities, we fill up before we head for home. Just because sometimes its 20 miles before a gas station, and if its below zero and you run out of gas, well its not good.lol Anyway we love our Spark.
Recently subsribed after watching your vids for a few months. Have you ever thought about adding your avg mpg. You do a good job of reviewing, but I dont remember you mentioning mpg.
I would say that applies more to hybrids vs. diesels. I can get a nice VW TDI that's a CPO with the extra 2 year/40k warranty for the price of a new Spark or other micro or sub compact. I don't have exact figures but I'm sure the TDI won't cost much more when it comes to initial cost, running costs and insurance and even if it costs a bit more I would say it's worth it since the safety factor is there. I have a MBZ C280 so I'm used to that solid feel.
You have good reviews man, over time you're getting a bit spoiled with the cars your getting. I just wish you drove with some goddamn courtesy dude. How do Auto manufacturers let you test cars slamming the gas and cutting lanes with no signals?
can you shift it manually? and you think 12 seconds is slow my 86 subaru gl with a 5 speed takes 15 seconds to 60 balls out on flat grade! but it cruises ok at highway speeds 55 @ 3k rpm 65 probably 4k rpm but with a 5 speed it atleast feels and sounds faster than it really is
Also the Spark passed the IIH new test (offset headon crash) when no other mini did. I rented one of these and drove it on I-95 from Baltimore to Delaware and back. I thought it handled good on the highway, although the engine was quite loud .
There are lots of articles online discussing that. European cars tend to have smaller engines. Diesels are very popular etc which means you get better fuel efficiency. Bigger V8/V6 engines are more popular in the USA, so you would expect them to burn more fuel to travel the same distances.
Because it is cheaper and smaller, it is a citycar after all, its designed to be easy to park and if you need to go on highways you can spend more and get a sonic.
True, but if you watch other 2theRedline videos, you'll know he's referring to the feature found in many cars that lets you press the button once to raise or lower windows completely. I agree his phrasing could be more clear though.
I find it interesting that nearly every other review I've watched about the Spark have been far more complimentary than this one. I think the expectations need to be lowered when we're talking about a car that starts at close to $12,000. Yeah it's built in South Korea but there isn't a single domestic automaker that DOESN'T build cars overseas.
LOL.. complaining about the Power Windows being manual control. Cheap cars should not even have PW. I would prefer to save some money and not have them as part of the package at all. Hard to find many truly base model cars these days. Eventually you get power window switch and motor issues, I want simplicity. I just dropped $200 on a PW motor on our 04' Forester. If manual was available, as in winding windows.. I would have chose it.
It's pretty fun to drive with a manual transmission - you can drive it hard and never get a ticket! At 65 MPH, it's starting to run out of steam for sure. But I didn't notice that it got blown around on the highway.
That's not the "next version of Chevy MyLink" but rather a Spark-specific version. The true next version of MyLink is the one you see in the 2014 Impala (which I'd like to see you review by the way).
It would be nice if they release the diesel version of the Spark, in which I hardly doubt they would, because to my point of view the MPG numbers would be too strong for US standards.
Had the same car minus the vinyl seat. And this guy is a douche.Wife and i drove it from OH to SC with luggage and our teenage nephew.Yes it was cramped, but we did 80-85 mph no problem, just keep your foot in it.City car? Nah....it's a car.Drive the damn thing.Remember when Honda civics had like 70hp? everyone said they were great! Again it's an economy car,not a Lincoln. We would still have ours but got totalled. Wife walked away fine too.
Yes you are correct, I'm assuming its because of the high cost of fuel in Europe and the fact that car manufacturers have tighter regulations dictating fuel efficiency and emissions. 50-70 MPG is not uncommon for many modern diesels.
I know this review is old but I had a 14 Spark LS with the jalapeño color. I bought used with 23k miles for $9k and just traded it for a 18 Cruze LT hatchback
ha sido mi mejor coche , mi chebrolet espark, muy feliz y divertido al conducirlo, mas aun lo potente y económico que es . ha culminado todas mis expectativas.
Hey, I know you're not really into Corollas, but I was wondering if you could review the '14 Corolla, it looks very promising, to the point I'm considering it over a Civic. Seems to have same or better MPG, more technology, climate control (On a $18k car!!).
I've driven one of these, it was absolute shite, really cheaply built :o( I would agree that the interior is a nice design though :o0 Good review as ever :o)
They all the same at this price sadly the Mitsubishi Mirage, the Smart Car, the Fiat 500 etc all garbage cars even the new ones in 2020 are rubbish, better to buy a Honda Civic or Accord much better quality product

i don't know why he says its only a city car, i drive mine up to oregon up steep hills on the highway and it does just fine
If you compare the specs to an NA Miata, It isn't that much slower. The Spark's 0-60 is a little over 10 seconds, while the Miata's is a little under 10 seconds. The only problem is the Miata is 30 years old.
im 5'7 228 lbs i went from a Cadillac cts and i love my spark comfy for me and my 2 children :)
I loved renting a Spark!!!
The 1.2 manual version has 94bhp and can hit 60mph in 11 seconds so not bad for a car that gets such good mpg
@@christineayres7094 I still see a bunch driving around where I live
@@lancsroddl4709 Yeah still better than those awful smart cars lol
As far as oil changes are concerned, would it make any difference in using the 0W-20 vs 5W-20?
Too much critics for such a cheap and small. I think this car perfectly fits for the ones who need to commute from A to B. It may be a good option.
Yes very correct
My 14 spark manual does 70 easy enough love it!!!
You always do good reviews :)
Great reviews!
what do you expect for a low priced vehicle? If you want luxury vehicle options then buy a luxury vehicle...TOOL!!!!
This is my first car and I love it
Why not a nissan versa? Samer mpg, crazy legroom, bigger trunk, more powerful engine, its even 200$ cheaper.
+Clay Rundquist Thank you for your response. I've had a SLIGHTLY nasty habit of pushing the limits just a tad bit.
Recently subsribed after watching your vids for a few months. Have you ever thought about adding your avg mpg. You do a good job of reviewing, but I dont remember you mentioning mpg.
is the blue screen beside the speedometer aggressive at night?
Drew Joseph No it is very nice at night.
On flat roads... it can do 95 MPH
ive hit 104 on flat roads
How do Auto manufacturers let you test cars slamming the gas and cutting lanes with no signals?
can you shift it manually?
and you think 12 seconds is slow
my 86 subaru gl with a 5 speed takes 15 seconds to 60 balls out on flat grade!
but it cruises ok at highway speeds 55 @ 3k rpm 65 probably 4k rpm
but with a 5 speed it atleast feels and sounds faster than it really is
At least it is the more safe in the class because it has 10 Airbags standard. The other ones have 4
Also the Spark passed the IIH new test (offset headon crash) when no other mini did. I rented one of these and drove it on I-95 from Baltimore to Delaware and back. I thought it handled good on the highway, although the engine was quite loud
.
There are lots of articles online discussing that. European cars tend to have smaller engines. Diesels are very popular etc which means you get better fuel efficiency.
Bigger V8/V6 engines are more popular in the USA, so you would expect them to burn more fuel to travel the same distances.
Readline Reviews. Do your freaking research. They still have that lime green color even on the newest model.
where can i download a service manual
Do you really need automatic windows up and down?
Because it is cheaper and smaller, it is a citycar after all, its designed to be easy to park and if you need to go on highways you can spend more and get a sonic.
Can you try to review a newer Chevy spark I would love to know what you think about them.
Well someone from my work. He just got a bread new 2014 Chevrolet Spark in black. So i want to see if when i go to work next week!!!
I have the identical car and color but with psychedelic seats and like yours it runs great and fast and roomy.
Why is a new car rattling under the hood?
do a review of the 2016 Chevy spark its a bit improved
Would love to see you do a Sonic review.
Went from a BMW M3 to a Chevy Spark? That's got to be a shock. Is the MINI too expensive to be considered part of this class? It has a lot more power.
Great review as always. Ford Fiesta for the win!
In Holland the car is not tiny, because the government took al our money we all drive small cars. Nobody notices anymore.
Love the review :). However, do you feel safe in such a small car? With a small car I would feel unsafe
always hated the way the front looked. the 2016 spark looks much more tame in the front.
So it is a Daewoo? Change title of clip?
Lovely engine sound
A microcar is a iQ or a Fortwo this is a subcompact
Had the same car minus the vinyl seat. And this guy is a douche.Wife and i drove it from OH to SC with luggage and our teenage nephew.Yes it was cramped, but we did 80-85 mph no problem, just keep your foot in it.City car? Nah....it's a car.Drive the damn thing.Remember when Honda civics had like 70hp? everyone said they were great! Again it's an economy car,not a Lincoln. We would still have ours but got totalled. Wife walked away fine too.
Cool shirt!
Will you be reviewing the new Lincoln MKZ sometime soon?
why does this not have door handles for back seat
It does. They're on the pillar toward where the "trunk" is.
Manual windows mean crank windows the non auto windows are called "power" windows
7:12 For 98HP this car sounds pretty good!
Have you done a Smart Fortwo yet?
That motor is tapping like Sammy Davis Jr.
Lmao you aren't wrong though. I own one myself. Love it though
"Small has been taken too far" An Asian guy should know.
Did a Red Kia Soul just overtake you? Nice little car though. Haha
Hey, I know you're not really into Corollas, but I was wondering if you could review the '14 Corolla, it looks very promising, to the point I'm considering it over a Civic. Seems to have same or better MPG, more technology, climate control (On a $18k car!!).
Nice car I need to get from A to B I can care less about speed and I'll drive on freeway I can care less if people pass me up 😁
I think it has the older key. I could be wrong, but so far, Chevrolet usually only have the switchblades on their smaller vehicles.
5:26 "Now when you open up the hatch!" Someone had a drinky poo I think. Great review though thanks.
Is the motor Chevy motor? or Kia or Hyundai ?
What is the price
