He has a gift, for when he is speaking about these subjects, to make anyone feel like he is looking right at them and giving them his full attention as he speaks. It can be to a room full of people, he can be part of a panel, or it can be a filmed one-on-one interview, and it will have the same effect.

I'm glad that I learned something new - a latin lesson 101 on compassion. Tom's dissection on Romeo and Iago remind me of my Shakespeare discussions at school. this is where great character debates spring. .My only concern is that in " to suffer with" a damaged flawed character might shift undue sympathy with the (character's) decisions that resulted in evil actions. I never really thought of it that way before. But that was probably the most beautiful description of compassion I have ever herd.
That's a good way to get into character. You have to understand them and have compassion for them. Let that character become a part of you so to speak.

his intelligence is astounding and his ability to see from other perspectives so easily is something not many people are capable of. Also, I only discovered during his role in war horse and I had completely forgotten about his noodle hair haha.
This is absolutely my favourite video on youtube ever. Can't stop coming back to it. I wish prolific youtubers would speak as kindly, genuinely and sincerely as Tom would about the nature of being human, and what it really means to live compassionately with others, instead of doing meaningless haul videos. In the end, as I have learned from the Dalai Lama, we are all connected by our desire to be happy. Having compassion is one great way for all of us to achieve this.

"playing honestly" yes... because with compassion for a character, you allow them to be themselves completely, regardless of right or wrong. you accept them and you understand, and you feel for them. wonderful insight, tom! :)

I'm glad that I learned something new - a latin lesson 101 on compassion. Tom's dissection on Romeo and Iago remind me of my Shakespeare discussions at school. this is where great character debates spring. .My only concern is that in " to suffer with" a damaged flawed character might shift undue sympathy with the (character's) decisions that resulted in evil actions. I feel there is a fine line between loving the sinner and hating the sin so to speak.Thank you for sharing this clip.
Exactly. Loving someone does not necessarily mean that you love everything they do (as anyone in a family can say with certainty. :P)

He's magnificent in those words. I wish all human's had compassion but they don't. They abuse animals, children, people, and take so much for granted. I agree on compassion about forgiving too...that's why I forgive for anyone being emotionally or verbally abusive to me....

I love this video. I feel him so close to me, so fresh, so honest, so smart. I like to hear him talking about what he actually cares or thinks about. He looks so young here, I love the fact that nowadays he's the same humble man but with more experience. His voice sounds like poetry to my ears and is delightful to practice my listening in english with him. He's a beautiful person.

To me there are certain types of celebrities. There are people you can love for their skill and their talents. There are people you can love for their personality. The best kind of people are those who you truly adore for both. I think that's when you become a fan. Tom Hiddleston is of the latter kind, a master of his craft and a seemingly awesome person.
When I see videos like this it blows me away that Tom can play a character as twisted as Loki. He's such a beautiful soul, naturally, and I know that he's an actor but the fact that he shifted so far from himself is a testament to how great an actor he actually is.
