Tom Hiddleston, the actor behind everyone’s favourite villain-turned-anti-hero Loki, takes us through bouncing back after rejection and keeping a sense of self in a tough industry.
Hiddleston made his start in theatre before starring in his first feature with Joanna Hogg’s Unrelated. His big break came with a starring role in the Thor franchise alongside Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman; since then, he’s appeared in five Marvel movies and worked with directors like Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro and won a Golden Globe for his role in The Night Manager.

I feel like he's just barely in his 40s, yet has the wisdom of someone a decade or more older. He's supremely self aware. And he takes all advice and instruction from mentors quite seriously. Like he's got a notebook in his back pocket and he reads it regularly.

civilserpent it's more that she's so far up Craig's ass, no one would be good enough. And she didn't call him a wimp, she said he wasn't tough enough looking. They are not the same. He has a considerable amount of muscle definition, but he's tall and lanky so the muscle adds very little bulk. She did call him smug though, because of his Globe speech.

Obviously I don't know him, but he seems different than he was a few years ago. More drawn into himself. I can't help but wonder if it was from all the drama from 2016, or if it's just the fact that he's gotten a little older.

I think it's a combination of things. Fame & attention hit him like an avalanche. & there was drama, & he, like many others experience being under the microscope. There goes your privacy, your every day normal life. Media gets everything they can. Fans, well meaning, can go overboard too. Everyone wants a piece of him in some way ... It gets tiring. & His work, his passion & calling, kind of gets over shadowed. & one has to slow down, take a breath, re-group...let the dust settle down, decide what's next.

I think he definitely had some kind of depression. He somehow closed himself off from everything, went deep into himself, in an interview he looks sad, and, as it were, worries. The smile looks tortured. Maybe working on the role of Loki weighs on him. He said somewhere that when he plays Loki, he already feels bad in the morning. I hope he is doing well now, a person like him deserves the best

Sounds like my mom's two pieces of advice: Everyone you meet will have a version of You in their heads- it is not your job to live up or live down to their idea of you, and she also used to say to us that you are the one who has to look the mirror in the face and no one else looks your reflection in the face every morning and night so live so you can meet your reflection's gaze.
Tell your mom that she is genius, cuz it blows my mind with first advice. By the way, I really like this actor, and tried get some advices from good, mature artist, but the funny thing is, that I got more simple and very powerful advice from commentator thank you and have a nice quarantine day ;)
Tom, I know you won't see this but I need to let this out. I love you man for who you are. Your personality is striking. It's too pure. Too gentle. Too kind. Too trustworthy. Too sensitive. Too honest. If there's anyone close to perfect, it's you. And I also wish some of your fans would stop taunting you with your bad/old memories. I know it's hard for you to be the very cheery person you used to be, but we still love you. Oh, and though I love your glass-beard-hot professor look, I'd love to see that clean shaven face and brown hair once again.

There are actors in Hollywood who've done some atrocious things that have had little to no impact on their career, but Tom dates Swift for 3 months and gives a speech about his charity work for an award and it's like he's the plague. Like, seriously, get tf over it already and let him move past 2016.

Diana Foster Yeah I'm on Instagram and I'm sure I've seen some of those posts. It's also on twitter. It's sad to a person like him losing his privacy so much because of people that he thinks of and thanks every now and then. I'm an obsessed fan of his too. But I don't dive into his personal stuff and I wouldn't want to bother him at all. You might think this isn't practical, but if I see him sitting in the same restaurant as me, I'd most likely avoid disturbing him.

Tom is an amazing actor who is so underrated. A truly incredible talent that I can't wait to see what he will do next. I am really going to miss him as Loki after Avengers 4 things will never be the same.

My daughter was in great ormand street hospital in December and Tom came round to meet all the children.. he was absolutely class .. he phoned me up from hospital in the voice of Loki to wish me happy birthday too . Awesome.

He’s just the nicest and most genuine guy. I met him in Seattle Ace Comic Con and even tho it was rushed in the photo ops especially, he has this way of making you feel you’re the only one there. In the autograph session he was just so interested in what you had to say. Of course, he’s a great actor but i felt as tho he meant it.
Can't imagine anyone turning him down for any part; but there you go, life can be tough for us all!!
He got turned down a part...Because they felt he wasn't right but haven't let him go, and then he soon got accepted in a different role in the same movie and they have made the right choice!!!

Lisa G Being an action movie, character development in Skull Island was minimal for every role. Still, Tom made more of it than most.
Absolutely agree with you regarding how badly he’s been treated since he made the mistake of dating that self centered, heartless bitch. She’s a serial monogamist. She pretends to love and commit to one person after another. But it’s become obvious that she’s incapable of any genuine attachment to another human being. As an actor it is such a relief to hear from others and their experiences. Honestly this is the speech you need to hear before and after every audition.
I literally cried watching this because I relate to this so much! I do Freelance Photography, Filming and Acting pieces and I have experienced failure many times. Failure is worse for me to handle especially when I have suffered extreme trauma recently. However he speaks the truth, I should be incredibly proud to be where I am today considering what I've suffered. Always keep fighting and trying!

I adore him in the MCU - he breathes so much life and so many layers to Loki, who is easily the most fascinating character in the MCU. That said, he's been fantastic in everything I've seen him in.
