I have a project with large sections of surface rust and areas where various repaints are cracking with a glorious dry desert look. Can I use the matte product and what would it do over the rusty sections, and how would it handle the cracked 3-d surfaces?
I have a 70’s hand painted logo I don’t want to deteriorate on my trucks door from the glass company that had it. To preserve the logo would the application be the same? I noticed just rubbing my finger across the logo some of the paint comes off on my finger tip.
An you please tell me what color where is in the truck from the left I love how that one looks i think is a 49 to 53 chevy I will like to purchase those colors please thank you
That is exactly what it is for. The kit will come with everything you need to prep the surface for the wipe on clearcoat. You will have application instructions in your box and our application instructions can also be found on our website as well as are frequently asked questions page. If there’s a answer you can’t find reach out to us on Facebook or Instagram or help@poppy’spatina.com
For the best results you will want to use in a well ventilated area at a temperature between 50° Fahrenheit and 77° Fahrenheit. If this is not available to you, apply and get early in the morning is best. The cooler the temperature the better. The less humidity the better as well. You will want the surface to stay dry and clean when applying the product. If the temperature is too hot, the clearcoat will cure too quickly.
Before you take my money. I have pinstriping and some fresh painted panels (Single Stage Urethane) on my truck can I use the Matte finish to dull them down. And is it ok over my pinstriping,
You are fine as long as the single stage urethane was mixed properly with its catalyst and the pin striping is fully cured. However we always recommend testing in a small inconspicuous are before beginning.
Spraying always trumps wiping when it comes to laying clear evenly if you have a good flat surface. That said our clear coat will self level well when wiped on. If you have the ability at spray you would need two cans of our clear coat and one catalyst. Two good coats is more than sufficient. Reach out anytime if you have more questions.
Applied and the sponge left brush like streaks. It’s only been a few hours so I’m hoping it will level out but in case it does not what is the best way to correct this. Doesn’t look great
If you have have any imperfections after the first coat. Let the clear coat cure at least 24 hours then scuff the area to be coated again with grey scuff pads. For excessive imperfections wet sanding with 800 grit maybe required to smooth the surface before re-application. When applying the second coat, apply moving quickly in an even manner. DO NOT wipe over areas that you have just applied to. These steps can be repeated until desired finish is achieved. Reach out anytime.
It would be nice to see some close up shots, especially on the gloss side. Have seen other reviews where streak marks were an issue. And if there are streak marks, how to get rid of them? Second coat? Buffing? or…?
Hey, great question! If you have have any imperfections after the first coat. Let the clear coat cure at least 24 hours then to smooth any imperfections wet sand with 600grit maybe required to smooth the surface before re-application. You are not looking to remove the clearcoat just to get it smooth and flat again. When applying the second coat, be sure you have plenty of product on your applicator pad, apply moving quickly in an even manner. DO NOT wipe over areas that you have just applied to. These steps can be repeated until desired finish is achieved. Reach out anytime
The truck on the right, is that cleared with this product or with the traditional clear coat. I ask because that is tremendously more wet in appearance vs the left side of the hood sample.
@@poppyspatina thank you that was my same question, I have a 1947 Chevy Coupe with old paint just faded no other paint coming through. A friend said he could buff it out but this stuff seems easier to put on.
How can I achieve the look on your blue and white pick up? I really like the way it looks. I have 1985 C-10 that I’m trying to get ready for the C-10 nationals in Dallas Tx On may 13-14.
If you are talking about the truck on the right. You can achieve this look with our “glossed out” product. Check it out at poppyspatina.com please reach out if you have any questions at all.
The Glossed-Out says that it is “spray on”. Does this clear have to be applied in a booth? What type of gun do you use? Does it have to be sanded, cut, and polished afterwards. I was a high gloss clear for my patina 56 Bel Air. I’m intrigued by your product but what’s the difference from having a shop shoot normal clear?

Since this product is advertised as wiping on which resonates with the do it yourselfer, could just use a lint free roller and get better results. The idea is to not need an air system to apply. Therr are other products with a 15 minute or so flash time and can be applied with a roller also. This product isnt exactly new, just the idea of wiping on.
Question, my customer now wants me to do this kit. After we have wetsanded and paint corrected his truck. Do we need to rough the paint up again? Or is it similar to a ceramic coating process
This is an actual urethane clearcoat like you would see on any late model vehicle only ours has the option to be wiped on or sprayed on. One coat last year’s. Reach out anytime.
Absolutely! Here is a “How to” video. The instructions are also listed in the description as well as the links to purchase the kit you will need. Reach out anytime! ua-cam.com/video/DEMPjAORrSI/v-deo.html
Very impressive. i will be buying this clear coat shortly, but first is the left car a flat coat? Next can you mix the two, to get more of a satin finish? Do reply and thank you. I did subscribe.
Yes the left is the matte finish. Most people who wanted the satin look have just used the matte with the clear catalyst as the clear catalyst creates a shine itself. Everyone we are sorry for the late replies. We will do our best to reply ASAP. We have some good things coming soon. Stay tuned! #PoppysPatina.
Can this be applied over a fauxtina paint job? I spray painted my truck and wet sanded the entire thing to get a patina look. Will this affect the paint?
Yes, we would recommend SPRAYING our clear coat over fresh spray paint or any single part paint. Wiping over single part paint or fresh spray paint will rewet the paint and cause streaking.
Yes of course. Wet sand the edges off of the old clear coat then sand or scuff area you are applying to. Wipe on clear coat fast in an even direction. Do not go back over areas after 30 seconds of applying to avoid streaking. If some areas need to be touched wait 24 hours for full cure and then scuff and reapply to area.
If a hardener or catalyst mixed with the paint it will do fine. If it was a single part primer like aerosol or lacquer type paint/primer we suggest spraying our clear over as wiping could potentially re wet and drag the color. Always test a small area before applying. Reach out anytime.
So I just did my truck today…and i would say definitely have extra sponges on hand…I dropped both of mine 🤦🏽♂️the job got done though and gotta say I’m content with the results

How long will it last in the weather?
My question is how long will it hold up in the weather car sits curbside is daily driven
Is it my imagination or is that blue truck with the white wheels shiny but not as shiny as the other truck also not as dull as the mate on the hood?

How do you keep it from streaking?

How do you avoid streaking? Temperature? Anything we can add to the mix to slow down the cure time to help with settling and limit the streaks?

is wipe on clear coat good for new paint?
Is the vehicle in video on the left side, coated with Matte or perhaps Satin?

What is the removal process in case you would want to do a full repaint in the future?
If you wanted to paint later down the road it is paintable by giving it a light scuff or wet sand.
Now that I know what finish I’d use, now I just need to find a 47-53 AD!!!
Where did he get that 3100 shirt?
So, is the truck on the left treated with the matte coating ?
Correct!
What comes out nicer wiping it or spraying it on clear finsh?
