      Yeah we are all fed up with those unfinished games. Those predatory action from AAA studios. Only game that I still play and feels still awesome is csgo. I am not excited about new cod or battlefield anymore, haven't been for 5+ years. And 3 people make game, that capture all the fun I had in the past, no bs.

      imo what is dragging battlefield (and the majority of AAA titles) is threefold: design by committee, overly large budgets, and public investors expecting massive return on investment on everything their developers push out. design by committee irons out developers' vision to an extent, overly large budgets make publishers wary about investing in new IPs, and investors push for nonsense like microtransactions, season passes, games as a service, etc. the modern environment leaves little room for an agile smallish development studio to put out the game they want. I think the huge scale of the gaming industry has been its downfall

    I like how being a medic in the game is supper rewarding score-wise, making it worthy for new players to farm XP by reviving and healing everyone. In Battlefield V medics used to run over everyone not giving AF, in this game they'll run straight into the line of fire 3 times in a row to revive you and heal you up 😂

    I love that the spot we are in within the games industry is, "You have forgotten where you came from. Let me show you." I keep seeing reviews for games that say they are not "reinventing the wheel", but are just fun, they focus on fun. And honestly, these indie developers are the future. Across the Obelisk, Vampire Survivors, BattleBit, were all games that we and the industry needed.

      remember saying this a while ago to some OWI devs for squad and they all got super defensive, like, squad is a good game, but the absolute lack of all progression and a poor new player experience combined with untill recently their random hatred of modded servers made so little sense. Like i understand they want to keep all guns and classes accessable from the start for all players but they 100% need some rising strom vietnam esque appearance progression in the least, i understand its a milsim but that doesnt mean every player needs to look like Random soldier no 63.

    • @ewancarey5847

      genuinely think squad could have filled this battle bit niche if they only realised that having ; smaller fast paced map rotation for some servers / hardcore and casual servers with and without friendly fire and weapon damage changes to help newer players. And a progression system. Those two things would have massively helped them onboard and keep more players.

    VOIP really adds so much to this game in so many little ways. It goes such a long way towards encouraging players to work as a team and help eachother out, because everyone around you has a voice and personality.
    Way more fun for people to drag downed players into cover and revive them when they’re shouting for help and getting crazy on the mic. Not only are the huge battles intense and action-packed, but people can make it so funny and entertaining.
    I’ve died laughing so many times while pinned down in a big building with 10 other people, just all huddling around and reviving eachother while shouting and making goofy milsim callouts, while the dude in the tank next to us is blaring fortunate son on the mic the whole time

Always gets me going when you spawn in a chopper with 11 other people and one guys is blasting fortunate son, or paint it black as we fly into a barrage of rockets. Most of the time my deaths don't make me upset I just find it funny that a guy would suicide c4 himself into 4 of us. Kills feel so rewarding and the fact that you can place spawn beacons is really nice too. Only thing I would gripe about is the lack of people that understand they're squad leader as they sit 400m away sniping people and never place a spawn beacon once in the game, or that your teammates all play the same class. An easy way around this would to give the squad leader to whoever has the biggest party say I'm grouped with 3 friends compared to someone with only 2, I would get squad leader, if everyone is solo, give it to the highest ranking person. This game gives me that breath of fresh air again that many games lately haven't been able to ; Reminds me of the early days of TF2 where people would fool around and not take everything too serious, voice coms are good fun and there's no pressure if you just want to sit in a tank the whole game and do your own thing. The tradeoff of graphics vs accessibility I think is one aspect you didn't touch on. Folks who played the older BF titles may not have the best rig as life priorities change, but jumping on with old friends playing a cheap title that prioritizes smooth gameplay on a potato over pretty setpieces is very unique in the FPS space. Even as someone with a more powerful rig, having super consistent framerates with 0 effort is a big reduction in the frustration with the game.

The way everyone interacts with each other, even to opposing teams is pretty fun. My only complaint with the game is the uniform choice. I don't have to worry about people laying down in a shadow or hiding in a dark spot with some ridiculous camo/customized appearance to cheese kills or make me strain my eyes on guard everywhere I go. I look somewhere, and I can *see* the enemy if they're there.

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir Рік тому

      It really depends on how much they expand on the player experience and potentially add more sandbox elements for long-term user generated content. Because in many other regards it can be compared to a timeless game like Minecraft: Also has a visual style that is entirely standalone and not reliant on contemporary visual fidelity standards. Its gameplay is also very accessible for multiple playstyles and easy to get into. There is true potential for longevity for Battlebits, their main obstacle initially will be to ensure the game doesn't grow stale after the initial popularity and intrigue dies off. How well does it retain its players when the next genuinely good AAA game in the genre comes out- because it will happen eventually. Long-term player retention is one of the hardest things to master in any game, especially in shooters that aren't highly competitive (like counter strike for example).

      slow continuous drip is how you keep people around, and its how battlebit does it, you will get at least something every 5-20 kills, be it an attachment or a new gun with lvl up and with the sheer number of unlockables, that can continue for 100's if not 1000's of hours.

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir Рік тому

      @@EthanolTailor I think the main important part is that they manage to stay relevant. It got a lot of hype and traction, mostly as a breath of fresh air, but one thing going against it is that it's not free to play, and it doesn't have the outreach of an AAA title either. Player number will always decline after the initial spike, even now 1 month later it's 30% down in player count from 90k to 60k - which of course is normal for any game, but the key part is if they can keep attracting new players or if they primarily rely on the existing player base. Drip-feeding is good when you have a solid core community, but the game is still too young to have an established base and foundation to rely on. Keeping people around doesn't earn them any money, selling more copies or having a form of in-game monetization does. They earned great on the opening month, but if everything from now on is just an expense to maintain players, rather than bring in new / or monetize existing players further, then drip feeding content will not be the game's savior.
      This is of course not to argue against your main point, for that I fully agree that drip feeding will be great for the core player base to stay invested. Absolutely. But what is the dev team's benefits from this? How much are they actually getting in return for the hours of work that drip feed content gives them? It got mass market exposure quickly, but staying power and further marketing is questionable. There is also the issue of cheating, which demands exponentially more dev work and practically gives zero money in return, but is still something that must be tackled if the game is going to survive and grow long term.
      I hope the game sticks around and becomes a mainstay classic. Time will tell.

    When playing Battlebit there's just this sense that every decision was made in pursuit of a well thought through vision.
    I think that's also why FromSoft games are so loved. There's no moment where you get mad at a committee or publisher.
    Battlefield couldn't do this because there's too many people involved and too few of them actually care about the game.

      I know it helps a lot that equipment and graphics aren't insane.. but I wish devs would not worried about having super realistic graphics, and just make the game fun

    I think it will continue to grow as more people play this game. The fact that any pc can play it even a laptop is a winner. This isn't even on console yet. The playability of this game is what makes it fun . Took me a good few games to get into this game because of the graphics but playing a few games solo I don't even notice the graphics I was having fun. AAA games are to analytical they try to copy what the latest best game is doing That's why they all have heroes in them now and let's not go down the road of micro transaction that's a game killer right there.

    I've been thinking a lot about Valheim ever since Battlebit's release. Both developers decided to use highly stylized "low-fi" graphics that emphasis only what is important for the player while also being highly atmospheric and it totally works. I hope more studios take this approach in the future.

      I think ignoring the microscopic texture detail and tesselation and crap like that frees up a lot of time and resources to add all the content you can imagine into a game. You can still make it immersive without those tiny details. Just like back in the ps1 days, if a game was designed well enough you'd be just as immersed as any modern game, if not more than the shiny turds we have today.

Plenty of maps, squad management, map voting, easier reporting system, and a scoreboard (don't even get me started on why someone thought a completive fps shouldn't have a scoreboard at launch). The progression to unlock deadlier equipment is a juicier carrot than some wacky ass skin I don't give 2 shits about.

    I think price has a lot to do with this also. When I buy a 60 70,80 or $90 game I’m constantly mentally checking to see if I feel like I got my value. It takes away from some of the joy of just being immersed in the game. Corporations need to realize that they will sell a lot more games if they would lower the price.

    • @modestMousse
      @modestMousse Рік тому +5

      Agreed. Although if they're gonna lower the price, then they need to also work with a much smaller team. It's insane to see that just three devs brought this game to a deliverable, enjoyable state. In theory, big game studios should be able to do such small team experiments, too, but I imagine they're too ingrained in planning too much out from the start.

    • @lobsterwithhisshouldersbac8368

      I think a big part to is that 90$ isn’t even the full price. Most companies openly tell you about the “dlc path” they have set up before the game is even finished or bug free.
