Honestly 20-30 years ago we were worried the world would run out of oil. Now we've discovered more plus engines have gotten more efficient. Seems like we have enough to last until we transition over. We still have 50+ years of reserves at current consumption and that doesn't include potential deposits in the Arctic (and Antarctica). Also that assumes current consumption persists when we've already converted 30% of the world to sustainable energy and electric cars+batteries are just getting better. 50 years is like 1973, when the first 4.4 lbs cellphone came out. With how fast we're reducing use and at the rate we discover new deposits, likely we have 100+ years to switchover.

Russia has no authority to claim or drill for oil,indeed the area they are looking at is under British Antarctic designation.There is in effect a ban on drilling anywhere in the Antarctic by any nation.
