Your hoop coop build video inspired my" Hoop Run" 2 tarps = 1 Green house tarp on the east for sun and 1 solid on the west side over lapping part of the greenhouse tarp- enough for water and snow run off. Zip strips on the side grommets and Para cord wind straps, tied down with trucker hitches ( No knots, so Adjustable) I cut pool noodles in half lenghtwise and zip stiped high enough out of reach for the chickens to not eat. This protects the tarps from holes since it does not rub on the cattle panels. 2 years in no holes and dry run year round. SInce it is always dry i can use leaves and grass clippings for the run floor and give the compost a good start.
Didn't take them long to move right in their new neighborhood. That's a pretty slick front running area for them to get use to the new run. Thanks for sharing with us, stay safe and keep up the fun you all are having around there. Fred.
Hi Sarah an Kevin. I remember when you built that Coop. Wow time really flies. Hope you all have a good day. We hav had rain over a week. Lv and Prayers to all.
Good Morning from sunny and hot California. I remember that first coop. You build them well, nice to see them lasting so long. I hope everyone has a Blessed day!🌸
The wind was in your favor looks amazing and I know they will appreciate the extra space. Thank you for sharing. God's blessings to you and your family.
In the case of fire, not only does the wind kick up, but it changes direction so it’s blowing directly in your face. (My dad used to say it was drawn to a vacuum. 😂)
I can't believe it's been 5 years I have been watching those two for this long that's amazing but I believe it's been longer than that when they first started doing that I started watching them way before covid so I don't remember how long I've been watching them but I know one thing I was watching them at their other place back before covid ever came in when they first got their cow and all of that stuff really I was thinking 5 years but I believe it's been longer but anyway I just love watching them God bless you both love you guys see you in your next video
I was intrigued to see how the chicks, even when put down on the grass, instinctively all went into the hoop coop. Your property is looking so amazing after such a short time.
A+ Remodel (!!) Looking like a Condo-Village ... Key element is to conserve your time managing the flock(s). Your Feathered Operation can more easily shift as situations change. Like the standardization and lessons learned.
Have you considered or tried using shade cloth instead of tars for airflow? You would probably need to put the tarps over the shade cloth when it snows to keep the moisture down. I live in AZ so I don’t have to worry about the snow, but my shade cloths have held up over many AZ summers. Great video guys!! Thanks for sharing your story.
I just love how you work with your chickens ❤😊 I was just wondering if you could do like how you set up how do you make your poop poops like like a tutorial kind of thing?? Cuz in the future I would love to do like you do with your chickens I'm interested 🤗
I enjoy watching how you do things on your farm. You teach as you do! Do you process your chickens yourself? Or send them out? They really have their best life with you! 💕
We raise a duel purpose breed. Our "chick-ma-hal" needs repair and we would like to refurbish it as a nursery (large nesting boxes and narrow/low perches) on one side because we rotate our roosters and hens with each fall season, but breed our own stock. On the other side we are going to add rabbits and turn the fensed yard in between as pasture for grow-out tractors . We're going to use one of your hoop coop designs with 2 separate yards for segregation of our flocks... so, thank you.
Good Morning from Oregon! Thanks for the link for the tarp, it's hard to find a good one, I will definitely give it a try! My 8 week old Bresse fly up and perch on top of their 6 foot fence, so I am having to put a tarp over their run, they think they are birds :)
So glad I saw this video. I was just planning a new coop for my AB"s. I've processed some but I still have ten hens and two roosters. I plan to keep just one rooster but have waited to see which one has the best characteristics/genetics. I cooked my first AB yesterday and I have to say that was the best tasting chicken I have ever had. Back to the coop. Didn't know you could get kennel panels so I will look into that. Tarp info very good and I had not considered metal siding. Needless to say I am re-doing my whole plan. I really appreciate this video and all the great info you shared. Questions: do you buy your chicks now, incubate your eggs from your hens or do you use a broody hen? I am looking at using a broody hen in the future instead of an incubator or purchasing new chicks every few months and am curious as to what others do. Thank you for all the helpful info. God bless.
@@LivingTraditionsHomestead that gives me hope. I was going to use a hen that I knew would go broody but she's not an AB. Maybe one of my AB's will become a broody hen.
When it comes time to harvest these younger chickens how will you tell them from the older ones in the chicken moat? Will there be a big size difference? Will they each automatically go into their original coops at night?
Hi! I have a question. How many hens can stay in the hoop coop long term? I’m shooting for 10-12 hens and 1 rooster. Also how big do I need the run to be? Thanks! Love ALL your videos!
20-25 would be no problem, so your 10-12 should have plenty of space. The bigger the better for the run, but it really depends on how much space you have.
When I raise my Cornish I raise them to 10 or 12 pounds that way after butcher I have on average 9 or 10 pounds equal to two five pounders. What do you think? Thank you for what you do. Blessings.
Question: Hi, Commenting from AZ, was wondering what is your weekly protein% feed schedule for the Bresse chickens that are going into the freezer? Your chickens look fantastic! Also great video! Thanks
Everything wears out eventually, but we are thankful for the yrs we got out of something we invested time and money in. "In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you".
I was directed to your channel when I was first interested in raising rabbits for meat. I have stayed because of all of your amazing ideas. Thanks for sharing! By the way, do you still raise rabbits and quail?
Do you use the mike method as finishing feed on the Breese Chickens? Also could you do a video showing your best way to cook the Breese so they not so chewy when eating. I've been trying different things and still the meat is a little chewy. Thanks from Papaw's Place.
They are a little more chewy than something like a cornish cross. This is mostly due to the fact that they are older (16 weeks) when you process them. Cornish get processed at 8 week and even though they are large by that point they are still essentially a chick.
The best tasting and tenderness I've done so far was when I put a Table Spoon of melted butter per cup of chopped corn per day for 3 weeks. The birds were extra fat at 16 weeks of age. I used the cheapest real butter I could find because I don't have a milk cow and whole milk cost to much for me. LOL I did a video showing how much fat that butter put on them chickens.
This is a little off-topic, but I wonder how your experiment with citrus worked out. I am ready to expand my garden and wonder if I can put a citrus tree in a pot outside in the summer and bring it inside in the winter. I live in your zone in Missouri.
Are these "feed" chickens male only or mixed? Only thing i might so differently is spruce up cook with paint. Lol with this breed - how about white with blue metal sides & a red door. Just fun idea. I get silly with things like this, but silly helps the day go by
Love the way you care for your critters!
Your farm is so neat and tidy. 🙂
You are so right about the wind picking up when you are working with plastic or fire! It never fails! Great video 😊

Yep, I remember that too. You're both great animal stewards as well as the land.
Wow, I can’t believe it’s been five years since I used y’all‘s videos to raise some chickens. Time flies! Keep up the great work!

Always appreciate your videos! Blessings on your family and your growing homestead Kiddos!🌻🐛🌿💚🙏💕
We use a second rubber pan as a lid on those bucket feeders and helps with the rain getting into the holes.
love these panels they'd be great for deer protectionAS WELL THE HEIGHT IS WONDERFUL AND THE STORAGE OPTION IS WHAT WE LIKE THE BEST
you are not kidding about the wind. every.....single.....time

Amother project complete, well done you two.
So happy to see that ur dream of using the bress chickens to raise meat!
Agree - it doesn't seem like 4 years! Not bad for an old billboard! Where did our lives go! Blink and 4 years gone!
The chick's love their new home. Great video
Good ☕️☕️ Morning Kevin & Sarah,I so enjoy each video you share!Have a wonderful week ahead.Your homestead is beautiful.❤
Enjoy and learn from your videos. Awesome how well you work together!
Good afternoon! Love seeing your chicken set ups. We will be rebuilding some coops here on the homestead as well.
I was intrigued to see how the chicks, even when put down on the grass, instinctively all went into the hoop coop.

Hello from Florida! I have my limit of 5 chickens, and they are doing well. Thanks for the video of the feeder- waterer buckets, it's helped a lot.
LOL that's funny when you said chicks I was thinking little yellow fuzzies
As always, i enjoy every video. Even when I already know about the subject, awatching you folks is like being around friends.
Loved all your videos this week! I don't live on a homestead but I love learning, and gathering your recipes too🌿🇨🇦💗🇺🇲

Good morning from South Mississippi. Good to be here❣️
Excellent job Sarah and Kevin. You truly give them the best life. Have a great weekend. Greetings from Wisconsin. Karen ❤
Nice. Grüße aus Deutschland 😊
Your new farmstead is really looking spectacular! It's amazing to see what a lot of hard work can do. 😊
Thanks so much! 😊

Great job! I. Glad your hoop coops are holding up so well. Love the way you take such good care of your animals. God Bless!
Hi, Great video
Michigan here. As you were driving the posts in, it reminded me of putting up the snow fence. So enjoy watching.
You do a very good job editing your vidios.
Thank you very much!
Love the way you work together
Wow! I'm first. Greetings from portugal. Today is 40° here.
I'm 2nd 😂😂
Same, here in Cyprus! Stay safe and take care!
Also cooking in Portugal..today perhaps wasn't the best pick for a canning extravaganza..😂
I built that coop and put it on wheels! I also got Bresse chicks and IPP pigs. Not sure where I got all these great ideas!
I’m getting St Croix sheep next. Let’s see who is first!
😂
Looking so good. Job wrll done
Hello from new Zealand, I'm so pleased I found your channel years ago, I love to follow along what you get up to🌻🌼🥰

We process them ourselves.

Those are big ole chicks
Good morning guys😊
Good morning!
Where did you purchase those panels? I looked online couldn’t find them. Only the ones with frames
Awesomeness
Funny i never used to put strapping on tarps and now I always do. The wind is really hard on them and tares them up when I don’t put on the strapping
Great video!

Hey Kevin, just wondering why they move chicken in the dark. Or is that only adult chickens. Thank you for everything you and Sarah do.😊
Good morning from southern Idaho
👍
Good morning. Do you notice a difference in the tenderness or flavor of the meat when they have a lot of extra room and forage to run around in?
Not at all

Wow great job. I always wanted a hoop coop but the person I had didn't want to build it.😢
@maryellensunflowergirl8132, Hire someone that you know to help you.
@@chris3m98 thank you. They used two dog kennels. Maybe one day
❤❤❤
When it comes time to harvest these younger chickens how will you tell them from the older ones in the chicken moat? Will there be a big size difference? Will they each automatically go into their original coops at night?
They will not mingle together. We have the moat separated into sections by gates.

QUESTION: Where is the “Kennel Panel” sold? Wire gauge? I’ve not found any in a Google search. Thanks, Tim in northern TN

Try Fleet Farm or Menards?
