This song’s title is a reference to Brian “Head” Welch’s Christian Metal band, Love and Death, as well as the methamphetamine addiction that led to him leaving Korn in 2004 and finding Jesus.
Brian had originally intended on using this song as a Love and Death song, but after Jonathan Davis heard it, they decided to make it a Korn song with Davis providing vocals as opposed to Brian, which is what would’ve happened had it been a Love and Death song. The producer Jasen Rauch had produced the entire "Between Here and Lost" album released by Love and Death, and so he was included in producing this song as well.
Jonathan Davis: "Love and meth had a big part of this band a long time ago. We all had our problems with it at one time or another besides Fieldy and Ray."
This is one of several tracks on The Paradigm Shift that reflect frontman Jonathan Davis' struggles to detox from antidepressant medication. He told Rolling Stone: "Writing the record was really weird. They started writing, I think, in August (2012), and I didn't get into the studio until March, because I was going through all kinds of crazy shit. My boy got diabetes and I had come off medication for my depression, and that fucked me up. I was in a straight haze. I detoxed off that medication - it was an anti-depressant, the anxiety and stuff. I'd been on it for three years and the doctor told me 'You gotta get off this, it's bad for you.'"
