The smoothing of the hands, and then the press without steam and finally with steam has been eureka moment for me and my technique. I'm achivieng great advances thanks to you, Donna. Than you very much.
@@beccalee8174 Hello, I use a 9 euro pretty cheap iron because it is not heavy and serves my needs in patchwork. Most irons have a place (in the handle) where you can choose to have steam or not, and also they have the option of rinse water or more steam on yoiur fabrics. You must observe where these bottons are in your iron, I'm sure the options are there. Is your steam keeps going out I suggest you use less water in the first place or just none.
@@beccalee8174 It might be time to replace your iron. Your iron shouldn't steam if you don't want it to. Another option is to not put any water in it. It can't steam without water! There are tons of relatively inexpensive irons out there if you're not looking to make a huge investment.
Just spotted thus quilt tutorial. Brilliant. Just loved all the bright cheery colours. Thanks so much for the tutorial. Have also looked at the customer projects they are way good. Donna your clear and concise tutorials are just so inspirational. 🙋♀️
Love the fabrics you used...the colours really pop! And great hint for that border, using the scraps! Waste not want not as my grannie always said. Thanks again for your wonderful work, from Australia
Another excellent tutorial. Love the way you pick your fabrics. It obviously helps that you have so many :) thank you for taking the time to share and you explain every step so well ☆
Oh my gosh-I thought it was gonna look awful and it came out so very pretty. That aqua backing was perfect. Also your stitching is so very neat and so pretty. You do an awesome job teaching, you have such a clear and concise manner about your teaching style. It is spot on. Now I want to learn how to quilt. You make it look so easy.
Wow that is stunning. Ive said it before, but every time you use black in a quilt, I am always amazed how beautiful the quilts turn out and how the colours pop. I 'm definitely using black fabric in my next quilt. Thank you so much for sharing. Lee x
The block does look like how the highway has only one lane for vehicles that have 2 or more occupants which lets you zip ahead of multi lane backups...driving in the fast lane! Love the layer cake fabric design & colors❣️. Great idea to use the colored strips as a border. Another idea you inspired is to give it more definition by doing 4 borders; inner white, then a little wider black, then multi colored, followed by the larger black. Having the black flank the multicolor might make it pop w/o overshadowing the pieced top. Love your quilt& quilting❣️👍
I really, really enjoy your videos. All of them. I am 70 and have just started to make quilts. I have been a garment sewer since I was 14, so this is new to me. I have made 2 tops so far. I am learning more everyday from you. You seem like a happy quilter. Has anyone ever asked you what you do with your scraps? Is your store full of Batics? I can't find many around here, but they are my very favorite fabric. Thank you so much for all you do and teach. I for one love it.
I love the scrappy boder. I have some leftover 1p" squares in green. I could add some red and white strips to make it Christmas like. The Cozy Quilt patterns always look so easy! Thank you.
Nice quilt, love the fabric! The Cozy Quilt patterns are really great and easy to follow, and I love the fact that you can easily choose different sizes. But Donna, your patterns are great also, I download every one of them. I'm going to work my way through them all! Lol!
Your enthusiasm and expertise make me want to sew out almost all the quilts you do in your tutorial. I’m going to order this pattern from you Q. Thanks !
Another beauty from Donna! Love the pieced border, it really helps pop it! Your videos are great. Plus it's fun to see your pretty nail polish! Thanks so much!
Love the windfall pattern fabric and the Fast Lane quilt pattern. Your tutorial is great, as usual. :) If the fabric were in the tan/browns, it would look like a basket weave. Keep up the good work. I always enjoy your tutorials and special hints you give throughout them.
Another fun quilt. I really notice the perfect cutting of the layer cakes from Jordan Fabrics at the beginning of this video. I have not had a chance to purchase yet due to finances, however, I enjoy watching your videos and will be ready when I get started to purchase fabric.
I just love all your tutorials, would love to work with you just so I could learn all your wonderful techniques .You can make topper in no time and it always looks beautiful. As soon as I learn how to order on line will be putting an order in.Keep the beautiful tutorials coming Always a pleasure😉
I saw this pattern on another channel. They used the small strip cut from the ten inch block where you used the black. It has a completely different look but just as fun! Thanks for all the great ideas. Your videos are very inspiring.
It would be interesting to cut the layer cake in half, put in your racing stripe, then square up block to 10 inches. You could make the placement of the racing stripe more random block to block, which could be really really cool.
Hard to say because of editing, but how long does it typically take you to make these quilts? Do you just pick a day to do it in or is it done over a number of days? Just curious to know, thanks! Love the tutorials, keep them coming!
It came out looking great. Newbie question...Do you always use white thread for the top and bottom? No worries about seeing the thread? Thanks for the great lessons.
@@lamoe11 Honestly it depends on your fabric quality and your stitch length. If I am using high quality quilt shop fabric, I will use whatever happens to be in my machine, or use up all my short spools. I just make sure my stitch length is at 2. ( this does make ripping seams a bugger, so I dont do it on anything complicated). If I am using a lower quality fabric that stretches more, I will try to match my thread to the fabric as it might show if the seam gets stretched. You could also do as my mom does, and she has 3 shade of grey she uses for all her piecing. Light grey for light fabrics, med for med, and a med dark for darker fabrics. A friend of my moms has the entire spectrum of thread colors bc she would be horrified to not use matching thread. None of us have any issues w thread showing thru the seams. It really comes down to fabric quality, stitch length, and preference. Hope that helps!
@@trinam2503 I have a front loader too, I think they're harder on the clothes, so I might get a second. I'll try the vinegar trick. I've had a lot of stuff bleed that I make and I'm too lazy to prewash. will it work to get out a bleed?
Viewing this for the first time 18 months later (Aug 2020) and unfortunately, Windfall is no longer available (*sigh*). Now the search is on for a similar fabric, anyone have any ideas?
Love this quilt. Another great job Donna.
Brilliant quilt for a boy or man. Thank you Donna and Matt and team for another fantastic tutorial. Kathleen. ENGLAND

Lovely. Can you show us how you do all together top batting and backing on long arm machine? Thanks 😊
We have a video showing all the steps here: ua-cam.com/video/itJ2NxGyn28/v-deo.html
thank you very much!
Great quilt, but I would have added a narrow white border between the pieced border and the black border to make it really pop.
Donna, all the quilts that are hanging up in your shoppe, did you do all of them? They all are so beautiful
Boa tarde.
Perfeito!!!!!!
would look cute with race car fabric, but I don't get it with leaves and race track lanes.
I want a queen size do I need 2 sets of fabric. I just ordered 1 set
Hi Donna, can you please tell me what size ruler you are using in this video and what size is your cutting mat please also?
I can not figure out how to order a hard copy of a pattern. I do not have a printer to print off pdf. I want a paper copy. HELP!!
I didn't catch the dimensions for cutting the layer cake. Please tell me.
It's not Donna's pattern so she can't give the dimensions.

Where can I order the precut fabric.
great job, love it. but aren't you afraid the black will bleed into the white during washing?
If you add a cup of white vinegar to the initial wash it should set the colors :)
You can use a color catcher if you are nervous about fabric colors bleeding.

@@karinabak3993 great. what do you recommend?
could you just make strip sets with the white/black/white and subcut into 10" sections to insert into each of the coloured sections.
