Looks great! I love all your vids, but I might offer one bit of feedback on this one. I'm not a fan of background music, and especially you don't need it! You're plenty entertaining without it. I might be the only one who feels that way, and I'll still watch for sure. Thank you for making these!
I was trying to find a way to shorten up things without losing too much content, speeding up the more boring parts made sense to me after I let you guys know the plan. Shorter videos means more videos uploaded because it doesn't take me so long to produce. I wanna pin this comment up top and get some more feedback from you guys on the subject.
All I could think of for the first half of the video was how much I missed the old editing. Since you mentioned knife care there's a guy called green beetle I've watched that speeds his vids up. You might watch a few and find a happy medium. Love the vids man, and love your personality. Keep it up
Yea I checked him out, he does voice overs but I could make it work for sure, Id love to get the videos down to 15mins if possible. Ill experiment some more on the next one. I wasn't really feeling the music either.
Hi mate, I just finished spectraflaming my first car that I've zinc plated using your methods. I want to say a huge thank you to you for pushing me to 'up my game' in regards to the hobby - your videos have been an absolute godsend for tips and tricks. Thanks and keep them coming!
@@DiecastResurrection She's looking pretty decent! Perhaps a little too light but ok for a first attempt. It's the mainline King Kuda from this year in Windex Blue so it's quite dashing. I've got a matchbox Mx-5 Zinc'd and ready for a coat of Anti-Freeze tomorrow!
I enjoy the long videos, but thats because I like seeing what goes into restoring these little cars.. I just love restoration videos of all kinds.. They're relaxing to watch and so satisfying at the end.. Perfect video..
Great Job on this one! You will never need to apologize for anything. Your channel has inspired me to take up this as a hobby like no other. Thank you so much for being just you, I get to laugh and enjoy a break from life watching your skills get better and better!
For the decals, I use the product called Solva Set. Stuff works really good. I can't wait to start restoring red lines. Watching you is like watching the Saturday morning cartoons. You get entertained and you learn at the same time. I think it's great. Keep it up. More vids! More vids!
You've inspired me. I'm going to try this. When I was eight, my mom bought one for my cousin for his birthday. I expressed I wanted one just like it, mom had no problem with that, but there wasn't another one on the pegs, so she said she'd give me the next one she found. We never found another one... booo! Never picked one up in the meanwhile over the past several decades.
Wow. This one is near and dear to my heart. I still have my original redline that was painted over 100 times trying to duplicate those flames, and I have another original somewhere in good condition. I want to take mine and see what it would look like in black chrome Oh, if you are trying to solder on one of these, the trick is to copper plate the casting first. Solder sticks to copper. When the job is done a quick acid bath removes the solder.
I remember having that van as a kid. Loved that van, then my brother stuffed it down the heater vent. Just love those childhood memories. Van came oit great though.
I’m here to tell you how much it bothered me.....so much that I smashed that subscribe button. Your attention to detail is amazing and I can’t get enough of the restorations.
That van is a-rockin'! I still love the anti-freeze colored Poison Pinto. Those decals just POP! ..and those edges just disappeared. You should tell people you hand-painted the graphics.
I need a pair of 'speed gloves' like you wore at the start of the video ! Another great project. Definitely one of (if not THE best) the best paint finish die-cast channels out there.
Had a least 2 of these that i (mom) bought new at Kmart. Probably still have them in the garage. I didn't know this was a THING. Like your video, brings back memories of playing cars in the dirt.
My friend had one of these, when we were kids, back in the late '70s and early '80s. Your restoration looks pretty good. The decals might've looked better had you put them on a glossy paint. I haven't messed with decals for a long time, so I have no idea.
One tip I remember from a modeler's magazine from many, many years ago was to use vinegar on decals instead of setting products. I remember buying "decal set" and thinking how much it smelled like plain old vinegar because it basically was. And yes, on thicker decals I used the stronger pickling vinegar my mother used in her preserves. The results were wonderful. It softened the decals to better take the form of the model and it lessened the gloss sheen of the transfers. Now, as to whether vinegar is compatible with modern decal transfers is a different question. But perhaps someone could experiment?
Both of you guys make sure you get a "Solvent Proof" air brush.. not all will hold up again using solvents to clean etc.. The one I use has teflon needle packing. If you buy one with rubber needle packing it may fail on you! Hopefully its no to late!
@@charliesnodgrass6788 Well I haven't researched the lower end ones to compare. The one I use is probably $90 US, its the Paasche Talon TG. I recently ordered a more expensive one that I hope will be more reliable then the Paasche. Which is a Iwata Eclipse HP-CS which also has Teflon packing. All I can say is, if the description doesn't mention Teflon, assume it doesn't have it. Cause that would be a major selling feature. Some Air Brushes can have their packing upgraded to Teflon for $15-$20 but you need to do your research!
The blue super van is the rare one, it would be cool to do one but they are supposed to have blue glass and a plastic base. Very hard to find the blue glass Id imagine however i've never looked. Maybe I will look right meow!
POISON PINTO!!!!! OMG!!!!! I totally forgot about that diecast!!! I use to have one!!! The van looks great!!! I see why you're perturbed by the decals, but hey, looks WAY better than it did when you started. Don't beat yourself up so much. BTW, love the videos. You're hilarious with you little quirks when working!!!!
I kind of commented on the solvaset before I seen that you had posted about it already. The stuff is really really good. Plus you get a nice size bottle and a brush inside.
Guys I'm willing to try anything, I get so frustrated especially at $9 per set of decals. I have Micro sol and Micro Set on order already so we'll see how that does against those beefy redlineshop decals.
I couldn't agree more. Just finished putting Tamiya decals on my Mosquito I'm working on. Those decals are as thick as rhinoceros lips. Walthers Solvaset is the only thing that would work.
@@DiecastResurrection I love the stuff. At first when you put it on the decals look ruined. They are not. Let them set for at least an hour and you will get amazing results.
Solvaset is the best hands down. Just don't let them sell you old stock. Maybe straight from the mnfcr. Could run in to cost problems that way, or go in on it with some buds.
Sweet job! I'd paint a bit of black or gold in portions of the grille, and I'd paint all the lights red/ orange to suit the locations of them. Maybe the headlights white too??
It turned out beautifully! I have a small van collection going, too - I love them! I would’ve loved to see a customized Spectraflame version if you ever have the time to zinc plate a van body.... Again, great job. congratulations....
The van turned out awesome! As far as the decal solvent goes. I use walthers solvaset. It's the only stuff I've found that works on thick and nasty water slide decals on the scale models I build.
I got it give it to you I don't have any got wheels or replicas don't think I'll be buying or restoring any but saw the home video. I guess I like the taking something and bringing it back to "life" or saving it from ending up in a landfill. Good work
If you can find it get a bottle of Solvaset, it's usually sold in hobby shops that cater to the model train crowd. This stuff is potent, about five to ten times as strong as Micro-Sol and Micro-Set combined. I have used it on model airplane models with compound curves and other irregular surfaces such as rivet lines or simulated grating, this stuff will literally melt the decal into the paint and onto the surface. Just a couple of things you need to know about this stuff..... 1- It is hot as in it will melt your decal. Make sure you have it in place exactly where you want it with the decal as smooth to the surface as possible. The use a brush and flood the surface of the decal with the solution, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST and then don't' touch the decal for at least overnight. 2-Wick the excess off with a paper towel by touching a rolled up piece to the edge of the pooled fluid WITHOUT touching the decal. 3- The decal will wrinkle up as the Solvaset goes to work, don't touch it. Just leave it be, if you try to flatten out the decal at this point you will just smear and tear it. At this point, it is a puddle of ink but as it dries it will settle onto the surface, as I said, it will literally be burned into the painted surface. 4- Wait at least a day before each decal is applied. That means that you can't put a decal on one side, use the solution and flip the car and do the other side. If you do that the first side is sure to be ruined as soon as it touches the desktop, especially if you're using a towel or something like it to cushion the diecast. If you have the patience and follow my advice you can have the edges very thick decals literally disappear into the car's surface and look painted on. You still have to clear coat the finish but you'll need less of that kind of paint.
I'm not complaining. I've watched every video you've released and have them saved. With that being said, with situations like the windscreen, I wouldn't be upset if it put you off by 12 hours on a video release. I may be alone in my thinking, but I'd rather you be late and 100 percent satisfied with your release :)
For the glueing of the axles. What about doing the baby powder/super glue method that Marty uses? I think it’s baby powder or corn starch..can’t remember, sorry. He says that creates a very strong material. Just thinking that might be a bit stronger solution. Anyway great work! Love your channel!
I love the Super Vans, and o love this end result!! I see where you'd be a little disappointed with the flaws in the decals, but it's still a DAMN good looking van!!!

It took me 3 times to get those darn flame decals right on the one I did.at 5.00 a pop for decals it got pretty frustrating. Lol. Love the super vans! If you do the Yamaha dirt bike super van. Zinc it and Do it in spectraflame magenta instead of plum enamel. It will look amazing. P.s. I found your wheel supplier. Lol. Feels almost like a sacrifice every time I do a 70s redline now. Lol
Try both of the Microsol the blue label is a standard and it works great but to get decals to mold around details and give the painted on look, try the red label! You will never go back to other solvents.
The van looks great... Decals in general are just tough, especially large decals like the ones u used here, but I think they turned out really well and that's a pretty sweet looking van...good job!

Zinc it and Do it in spectraflame magenta instead of plum enamel. It will look amazing. P.s. I found your wheel supplier. Lol. Feels almost like a sacrifice every time I do a 70s redline now. Lol
...and in today's Diecast Resurrection, we learn to read the bottle of paint before using it! 😂 But it's okay, dude, you still so great work
That came out nice.good job 👍
Looks good. Thanks for the video.
Try both of the Microsol the blue label is a standard and it works great but to get decals to mold around details and give the painted on look, try the red label! You will never go back to other solvents.
Great job!...keep up the great work 👍
Looks very nice I like it a lot thank you for sharing
Sweet my man , came out great!
The van looks great... Decals in general are just tough, especially large decals like the ones u used here, but I think they turned out really well and that's a pretty sweet looking van...good job!
