This is a awesome series you got, I did get to spend some time up there in the early 1980s on camping outings to visit dad....he went up there every now and then as fill in for vacations...I never got to ride these but I got a chance to get up in one ....at 7 or 8 it was a heck of a experience going up those steps ....I wanna say it was 6724, I picked a zito....
The only other good replacement would be a early 6800 series....if I recall the first 21 SD40-2s were the heaviest of all the 135....but still wouldn't be a lugging match...the 7000s I'm still trying to figure out, like the 5050-5099 GP50s...the problem engine...
