Based on Elmore Leonard’s novella “Fire in the Hole,” Justified was developed by Graham Yost and stars Timothy Olyphant as Deputy US Marshal Raylan Givens, a lawman who finds himself drawn back to his home state of Kentucky. In Justified’s final season, the long brimming conflict between Raylan and Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) will finally come to a head. The series co-stars Walton Goggins as ‘Boyd Crowder;’ Nick Searcy as ‘Chief Deputy Art Mullen;’ Jacob Pitts as ‘Deputy Marshal Tim Gutterson;’ Erica Tazel as ‘Deputy Marshal Rachel Brooks;’ Joelle Carter as ‘Ava Crowder;’ and Jere Burns as ‘Wynn Duffy.’ Yost wrote the pilot and serves as Executive Producer/Writer on the series. Executive Producers on the series include Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, Michael Dinner, Fred Golan, Dave Andron, Don Kurt, Taylor Elmore, Timothy Olyphant, and the late Elmore Leonard. Justified is produced by Sony Pictures Television and FX Productions.

Raylan vs Fletcher Nix - Scene | Justified | FX
/ fxnetwork
"When she gets to one, we go for it."
❤
the tablecloth trick is still one of the best moments ever!
I think there's a bonus feature where Tim said he came up with that idea for the scene right before they filmed it.
The writing perfection on this series summed up in one line.
"Sorry about your table cloth"
🤣
I love that there are so many moments like that in this series. The "genteel" Southern manners mixed with "gangster" behavior. Like when Art was in the cafe with Picker. Basically, "I can shoot you from right here no problem. But let's not interrupt people's breakfast." 😂#theOGJustifiedistheBest
Tuco: "when you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk"
Even when taking a bubble bath!
There are two kinds of people...
I laughed so hard when I saw that episode. At the time you had no idea how he was going to get out of it. They set that up beautifully.
This seen was so good, I have seen it multiple times now. Like you said, very well set up. I was thinking how the hell he gonna get outta this one?
I cried laughing when he outsmarted Nix😅😅
I was so proud of myself. I came up with the same plan. The scene they got me the most in the series was when limehouse cut off Quarles arm. I didn’t see that coming at all.
What kinda fool trades in their piece for an ice pick?
@@StephenAku a dead one.
When Fletcher puts his gun on the table, Raylan's face is "is this guy for real?"
I figure he was thinking, “I just told this idiot I know a lot about him”…now how am I going to beat him at his game…ah, tablecloth.
Not to mention Winona’s noticeable relief at the same moment
Haha seriously
And he’s like “I wonder why they call him the Ice Pick?”
The guy holding the gun would make an excellent Gambit
I like that every now and again his Miami shooting gets mentioned in the show. Everyone knows how that turned out and still wanna challenge Raylan with the thought "I'm sure I can take him."
Heck yea, awesome catch.
its like ufc champions who go out and the local tough guys think they can throw down and beat a champion. its a form of confidence that borders on mental illness
Nix was counting on his trick. He didn't anticipate that Raylan is as smart as he is fast.
Just like the old west. Once ya got that reputation they had to try ya. " I hear you're the one who out drew Jimmy the kid"? Yeah son I did. " well mister I reckon if'n I'm gonna be the new goat I'm gonna have't kill yew.
@@vampirefox7 also reminds me of all the people that thought they could beat Scalabrine 1 on 1 like he didn't play 10 years in the NBA
Many don't realize that Raylan had to be calm enough to gently pull the tablecloth so the friction of the gun on the table wasn't overcome by inertia. It's these subtle nuances that made it such an enjoyable moment and show.
Great point cuz otherwise the gun would have stayed in the same place on the table.
It's just a scene from a TV show. It isn't that deep.
@@jameylawson8743well, it kind of is because that’s the nuances good writers weave into their scripts.
Now if it was some Fast and Furious kind of thing sure, it really isn’t that deep. But your comment doesn’t apply in this instance.
You're right that it adds to the scene, but it's possible this wasn't in the script, maybe they tried it fast and it didn't work.
@@jameylawson8743haha seriously. Dude is over thinking a simple trick.
Nix to me felt like the archetypal quiet psychotic gunslinger from old westerns.
For that reason, it’s only a shame he didn’t show up for longer. But the way his time ends was one of the moments I count as narrative and cinematic perfection.
i think they didn't kill him because they wanted to bring him back, but then his actor got all weird about being typecast as villains(see his role in shooter) and probably didn't want to return for some reason.
best actor since eastwood, actually, he is better than eastwood
He was great in Dexter, versatile actor.
@@ronkistner2672What kinda dope you smoking over there Laddy??? Lol!
Reminds me of Billy Drago playing Nittie in the untouchables!
What a fantastic actor. Justified has the best villains.
Boyd was the best
He went on to a bigger role in Dexter. Or maybe it was before 🤔
@@andrewrobertson3883 Boyd was awesome, but Mags Bennett is my favorite.
This show was perfect - the absolute best cast of actors, excellent writing. It was another series i didn't want to end.
I watched the new one for a few, but it just didn't get it.
@@ikkenhisatsu7170Agreed…I just couldn’t ‘get’ Manzell. He is more of a support ‘bad’ guy, but couldn’t ‘carry’ the show like Boyd Crowder did.
Glad to see that the Boyd ‘card’ was played at the end of this past season.
The Producers now have a lot of material to work with.
Imagine if both Nix and Raylan thought of the same thing and pulled on table cloth 😂😂
hahaha table cloth pulling stalemate. 20 min on the ground wrestling over the table cloth. girl picks up gun, shoots both, walks out with the watches. cops arrive. what the hell happened here?
Fletcher was a creature of Habit. Raylan said “I know a lot about you” suggesting he knew his MO & was immediately thinking of how to beat it…the tablecloth was an easy out, I’m sure he was thinking of alternatives like shoving or tipping the table, which would throw him off yet give a lesser advantage.
@@jimmyfrench4722 I'm sure he wasn't thinking about any alternatives because he's a character played by an actor according to the script.
@@SBT300 🙄
👊🏿 fight
Sorry about your tablecloth!😂
The writing on the new justified is so bad it makes me angry.
Wokester’d🤦🏻♂️
Absolutely ruining this character with that SJW tragedy they call a miniseries.
I’ve watched this series 4 times. I’m sure I will watch it many more times. EXCELLENT story line and characters.
The new one is flat terrible. I was so excited when it came out. I watched the first three episodes and have up. It's garbage.
@@JakeEpooh agree, it's pretty dull
Is this a new season?
@@richiem7716 yes
@@JakeEpoohStarted out that way. Got a bit better. I think it's worth the watch to the final episode, but you gotta wade through some....stuff. The story itself has a slower pace. Your mileage may vary, tho.
I'll admit it. I've had a huge crush on Natalie Zea since Justified.
This scene is awesome. Its really tense at first. Then has a really funny conclusion.
"We never dug coal together."
And the lesson from here is never sit across a table from Raylan Givens in a duel thinking you can take him. Three men tried it and one went to hospital critically wounded. The other two ended up 💀.
Just the opposite. One died, two went to the hospital. Nix is obviously and openly still alive at the end of the scene.
When your opponent reads the scouting report 😂
I love tv time. Count down from ten…
“Ten…”
Skip forward 10 seconds
“Six….”
new city primeval have alot to catch up, this less than 4 minute clip is more intense than VERY GENERIC 4 episodes of the new series. i hope it gets better.
Originally they had a different ending planned were Raylan flipped table but then Timothy Olyphant figured it out the tablecloth move messing around with a banana in the kitchen.
Having watched the first Justified series, I don't know how the second one is still on the air. Terrible.
Best one-off villain of all time. Loved Fletcher Nix and I wished he could’ve hung around longer! Should’ve had him as Quarrels’ goon a few more episodes.
"Sorry about your tablecloth." 😂
Now that's Justified! Not that Primeval crap.😎
this show is endlessly brilliant. fortunately there's tons of amazing clips on youtube, like this, for me to revisit.
this scene is an example of some of the best stuff on tv in the past decade (ie: breaking bad): the writers create an INESCAPABLE situation and yet find a way for the protagonist to win. brilliant
Never bring an ice pick to a gun fight. 😉
You know, for a long time I wondered about this scene. I always thought with Raylan's upbringing, and Arlo *being* Arlo, I wondered if Arlo ever taught Raylan that "game", and that's how he knew how to get out of it. It's never explicitly said, but I did wonder.
We're lucky that Raylan is a good guy, because he's a bad man. "Sorry about your table cloth" after that intense encounter and shooting.
that line is 007 type humor, love it
Every single actor in this serioes was fkn brilliant, I loved them all, and the story telling was nothing short of excellent.
I always wanted to see more of Nix, along with a dozen other killers that Raylan either outgunned or outsmarted throughout the show.
While this is an awesome scene, something popped up I just now that Ive never thought about. Is Raylen actually justified to shoot him in that moment? At surface level, Nix technically is unarmed with a firearm. And this could've ended with Raylen just getting the gun, pointing it at him and telling him to drop the ice pick and put his hands up, then arresting him. While I personally agree with Raylen firing at him, I see our court systems having a field day with this one that doesn't end up in Raylens favor.
Tuco' s comment about not talking when it's time to do the deed applies to everything: "When you have to shoot, shoot; don't play games."
This reminds me of the Austin Powers movie when Dr. Evil's son just wanted to shoot Austin Powers but Dr. Evil insisted on some elaborate way of doing it. The son told him he could just shoot him right now and that would be it.
Raylan looked unsure how to deal with this situation, until Nix told Winona to count down. Then his whole demeanor changed. You could see him thinking, "This is my kind of game now, and I know his play." Raylan's near-smile at 2:29 shows he knows how to win.
I think he was more worried about winona and the baby he was unsure if fletcher would kill her or let her leave if he won.
I'm pretty sure he was soft smirking because Raylan enjoys games and even in this situation he was wondering how the rules of engagement would go, because you can see the change as soon as the rules are explained. You can tell by his body language that he was nervous up until the rules were explained.
He notices the ice pick holes in the table at the crime scene earlier in the episode. In that moment he knows what Fletcher's move is gonna be.
Show became so much better when they dropped her storyline.
The new Justified program is just awful.
This scene was awesome, never would have guessed Raylan would have pulled the table cover to grab the gun and kill the dude. Clever move for sure.
Kill? He shot him in the shoulder.
Why are criminals always so stupid 😂
nope last episode was too woke, don't watch anymore bye bye
That's what is missing in the new series.
I appreciate that every wannabe tough guy who goes against Raylan has some kind of gimmick that gets them in the end. The knife guy falls in a hole, this clown, and the dude who always aims for the head only grazes Raylan. Meanwhile, the trained U.S. Marshall prevails.
I believe Boone only grazed Raylan because he was shot right before pulling his own trigger. Quarter of a second later and Raylan wouldve been a busted cantaloupe. The whole season foreshadows that Raylan met his match. Last fight was equal level. Just got lucky.
@@obiwankenobi9439 The first season foreshadowed Boone kinda because of how Raylan wears his hat in the traditional cowboy style slightly above where its supposed to be so if someone aims for the head they hit only the hat or graze you. I've seen that scene frame by frame and they both shot at exactly the same time.
@@obiwankenobi9439 No. going for head shots is jut stupid. Doing it from that range is absurdly stupid.
Or Raylan sets it up for somebody else -- Sammy's boys gunning Nicky in his limo -- or nemesis Limehouse kills another (Quarles).
One of the best shows ever
Too bad he's such a dud in the new series. Four episodes in, and he hasn't done anything worth remembering.
You do kinda need the context that this is what he’s known for, for it to be as cool. I’m sure people still enjoyed it who didn’t know. But the whole suspense of the scene, and therefore the payoff to the suspense, is that the viewer is supposed to be aware that he will stab Raylans hand with the ice pick as Raylan goes for the gun.
It never occurred to Nix that Raylan would be aware of it too. By thinking he was being clever, all NIx did was effectively hand Raylan the gun.
He was too arrogant to listen to Raylan when he said, “I know a lot about you”
My favorite scene from the entire series.
If you watch the entire episode, they set this up. Nix pulls this trick on someone else, who gets stuck. Raylan knows what he will try to do (as does the viewer), based on that scene. Desmond Harrington is an actor of the same caliber as TO. Maybe the best villain in the series.
Memorable villain but better than mags or Quarles?
@@kiko1935if he has more screen time, I’d say he would’ve been number 1.
More memorable than Boyd Crowder?
@@anthonyware7116ok you named the winner there.
He had potential, but the depth of the other characters, the delving into motivations. Boyd was a great villain because of his complexity, the times he tried to do right but was put back on the path of wrong. Walton Goggins was blessed with 2 near back to back great character pieces of Shane Vendrell then Boyd Crowder and we were lucky for it.
"I know a lot about you." should have tipped Fletcher off that Raylan knows his MO and would try to stab him.
Raylan, a true badass.
That guy had soulless eyes
It's like my father told me. Beware playing the game of the man making the bet. Odds are he knows something you don't like Nix did here. Raylan thought better.
Gotta admire how Raylan showed like absolutely no fear. Just chilling, the cold yet determined look in his eyes when the lady was counting down!
Well, THAT was awesome 😊
That's what you call outside the box thinking on both their parts. Raylan's was just a few inches further outside.
This is why you don't play games with your target.
It is sad to see the show go from this to the season on now
It felt like the new series was a character assassination. The best moment was the last 5-10 mins of the series, minus the last 1-2 mins.
3:10 :Morgan Freeman: "It was at this point he knew he done fucked up. He thought, 'Maybe I should've tried the pawn shop with them watches.' "
When A Cowboy Lawman
Meets A Italian Mafia Gangster
Very Underrated Villain
That woman is always in the middle of every conflict. The guys' one major mistake was thinking he was smarter than Raylan.
Loved that series. Id really like to see a whole new one. Or two. Just sayin'.
FLETCHER NIX was a great villain, a shame he was only in one episode.
I really liked the veteran, Colton. The way he went out was pretty decent.
joey quinn going crazy in this episode of dexter.. lmao
Similar kind of thing in The Avengers british spy show of the 1960s. Except it was an ax instead of an icepick and a pea instead of a gun on the table. Steed had to move the pea before the axe fell.
Raylan knows better. 😌
"Sorry about your tablecloth."
Bro hammers that knife into the table. Raylan shoots. 3:19 the knife is gone and table cloth looks okay.👍
I played this scene over and over again the first time i saw it on the show , and each time i laughed
And another arrogant yet dumb Elmore Leonard villain bites the dust
I always think it’s Johnny Depp when I first see Fletcher
that stung a little.
now thats the Raylan i love!!!! not the older Raylan in the new series
Writing is a valuable thing…goes to show why the writer’s strike form years ago was settled relatively quickly, writers equaled $ & the one now where the writers are more likely to cost a studio money, yet still demand more.
MY MAN
Tim is a straight up boss in that role!
Raylan wasn't worried about it because he read the script.
Real-life lesson: Be prepared and read the script! (the Bible).
Perché ha fatto quella schifezza di serie con drew barrymore, perché
That table cloth saved Raylan's life
Coroners report probably hinted on his MO he liked to play draw, and cheat - dumb move going up against an actual gunfighter.
When Raylan pulled the table cloth why did he still stab the table 😂😂
I always interpreted that as Nix was zoned in and had done this so much that the muscle memory took over when Winona got to 2. He probably didn't even realize what Raylan did.
best display of controlled intimidating violence ever!! LoL... excellant
Gets my vote for best TV scene of all time.
Walter White, under his house, laughing maniacally.
To quote Tuco from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, "You need to shoot, shoot! Don't talk!"
I love Raylsns character
Even in the heat of the moment, he didn't kill him. Now THAT is controlling the situation!
This is the kind of scene is that is sadly missing from the new Justified Primeval. The hammer was down on the 1911 when Fletcher placed it on the table. Any gun enthusiast would catch this and I'm sorry for being overly technical.
Darwin theory of evolution
All Raylan had to do was flip the table up.
The eyeliner and continuity?
Wait ... when does Winona sit down?
I bet he learned not to play the game on a table cloth. 😂
Raylan ain't no dummy, dummy
Sorry about your tablecloth
Regrettably, given what we have seen so far in Justified city primeval, we won’t be seeing anything like this in that mess of a series 😡
I was behind and binged all 4 episodes currently out and while I still love the original series more, this one is already very good, wish Boyd was around though.
This is a good scene.
"You gonna eat that pizza?"
I think your hand is faster than the gun being pulled by the tablecloth but it looked cool.
Classic scene. 😂
This scene convinced me that Raylan Givens was the coolest law enforcement dude I 'd ever seen.
