Lovely car . Monsoon car hoods in sussex do lovely replacement hoods . Did one for my saab 93 aero convertible . Wernt cheap but excellent quality and fit . Cant wait for the next installment on this .

I would paint the underside, future proof it. Was extend its life too, get rid of all the rust and some fresh stone chip protection

Used to have a 2 door red mk 2 , got rid of it for scrap in 2006. I really regret it now.

The Golf deserved the work you are doing after surviving this far, but it has been quite a lot of work just getting the parts together. The engine sounded reassuringly good, after sitting so long, engines hate being left for too long. The way the job is going, this could almost end up being a heritage quality item, though the bodywork has its odd demand still to put on your time. It should earn a price that recognises its rising rarity value.
I started watching you guys near the end of the Ferrari build all your videos are a bit different but they’ve come on such a long way and you can see the care you put into all of your work, well done on 200k all properly deserved
See if that was my car, I'd stone chip/paint and lacquer the underside of it the same colour as the car.

My nightmare was putting on a replacement soft top on one of these ,at the rear it’s a cable connected with a nut both sides ,(bit like handbrake cable attachment) no access to feed it through or tighten up the nuts ,so you couldn’t tighten it up evenly .

Rob ive had 3 of these,water runs down the back through the rear bumper mounting tunnels and rots the box section in front of the rear wheels and wrecks the rear beam mounting area.Please fill the section full of wax.Great motors and deserve to be saved.

Edit: Must be an English thing but what does "we're made up" mean?
Mk1 filler necks are different from cabriolets and the hard top cars, that’s why the length is different, you can still get cabriolet versions but they are harder to find
have a look on BSB before you decide on getting that hood repaired, you can get a brand new OE vinyl one for less than £200 from them and a few quid more a mohair version, in any of the OE colours, they also sell all the hood cables and heritage sell new springs for the side tensioners
That hood may be repairable but it’s shrunk on the sides
I fitted one myself to my own cabriolet on my drive! So a man of Chris calibre should have no issues fitting it
As the cars are worth a few quid now it’s worth the effort i reckon

Chris, your channel is a genuine pleasure to watch. I loved the Cabriolet Clipper's when they came out, and IMO, the Mk. 1 GTI was the best of the lot. It's a great car to restore, and I know you and Rob will do a fantastic job!

Still good to see so many subs getting involved. I think your Ferrari vids are great, your personality shone through and the addition of Chris was a perfect match for the channel. Is this an engine that could of been krypton tuned
My Mk1 gti tin top hasn't got the lift pump in the tank, must be the same set up as Mk2 golf as its a cab. Great video lads!
