Jacob, I have taken those pitted surfaces, cleaned them real good making sure to clean all the oil, and put a light filler of JB Weld in the pits. Let it fully cure, sand it smooth, then remount everything. It will amaze you how well and how long it will last. Just a thought in a rush. Really like your tutorials.
The JB Weld comment made below has worked for me. If I encounter one that's very bad, or in a marine environment, I go with a Speedi-Sleeve (SKF) and a double lip seal, as another viewer commented. That'll doer as they say! Great video!
Great info - thanks! Got a big jigsaw puzzle of old baking sheets under my 49 to protect the driveway from the half dozen drip points til I can chase them down over time. Didn’t know about sleeving so that’s another win today!
An excellent fix. My old '73 leaked out of both pinion yokes. Put in new seals & both still leaked. Bought 2 sleeves from rockauto for $ 20 bucks apiece. Don't have to change the seals again. Put light coat of ultra black silicone on it b4 I tapped it on. Both yokes had a waregroove around them. That fixed it. Those TC yokes are usually the same as the pinion yokes. 1310's.
Love it! I wish I could get mine to stop leaking. But it also need rebuilt. Keep up the vids! PS I have a seven bar salvage sticker on my coffee cup I use at work everyday. Your logo is one of my favorites.
Always great to watch and learn. I love your orange wheels. I have used red, OD green gloss and black center and OD gloss on wheels to switch it up from just white or black wheels. From the snowy banks of Underwood Branch, thanks for the fun.
with the speedy sleeve, I would also switch to a double lip oil seal. I can get you the part number. that should solve it. you could also double the seals up but you shouldn't have to
Hi Great videos, I ow a 1954 CJ3B, I have had it during the last 37 years and have not been able to stop this leak, please let me know if it was solved I thank You and keep it up with videos
I’m sure you found the last replacement will leak too. You need a speedy sleeve or a new yoke. All of those you have will leak. They are no good. The seal surface needs to be perfectly smooth n polished.
You are correct. I’ve been meaning to post an update to that video showing how to use speedy sleeves because it’s a common issue. Luckily mines not leaked since but I’ve not been driving it so I’m gonna speedy sleeve it when I get the time! Thanks for watching!

Glad I could help! I wish I’d known about the speedy sleeves back then… I’ve got one sitting in the shop I’ve not had time to make the video yet!
Good stuff. Glad to know that some yolks have an o-ring. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!

I wish I’d known about sleeves back when I made that video, I just posted an update video installing the sleeve! Good info thank you!
After replacing my yoke with a New Old Stock and with a new seal my rear seals stop leaking.😅
Shoot yeah!
We have used double sing,e seals on the front and rear transfer case.
I’ve got a newer video where I install those, worked great! Thank you!
This video has been a great help thanks
Glad to hear it!

They started out temporary but I think I’m gonna keep them! Thank you for watching!
Need a speedy sleeve
Another helpful video. Thanks
Thank you for watching!
This is funny, I've got a m38 and occasionally I do a small parts kit but I have never had an oil leak.
That’s crazy!
You can buy repair sleeves that are easy to install on these yokes. National 99155 Redi-sleeve.
I didn’t know that thank you for the info!
They are cheap, do a good job and easy to install, waste of time and effort using those yokes like they are.

I believe when I rebuilt the transfer case I used a double lip seal. If you have the part number handy that would be great 👍
@@SevenBarSalvage national / federal mogul 473229 should cross the same number
Always Great!!!!
Thank you!
So the pan bolts need thread sealant?
Yes, I have a transfercase rebuild video that shows the different sealants I use more in depth. Thank you!
Where did you get your o-ring seal. And did your leak stop.
I just pulled it out of another case. I’ve not looked online to find one.
When installing new seal coat with hefty amount of "sticky grease"!
A machinist can polish it up, then go with a seal to match. Then put in the s3al.."sticky grease"!
Good idea!
you could put a sleeve over the sealing area.
I’m going to I bought the speedi sleeve I’ve just not posted the video! Thanks!

It’s really hard to get these to quit leaking. I’ll be posting a follow up video soon! Thank you for watching!
Might try filling the small pits with jb weld or marine Tex.
That’s a good idea! I’ve been meaning to make a part 2 of this video
Nice job!!
Good video!
Thank you!
Speedi sleeve from NAPA about $20.00. Been using them for 40 years.
Awesome that’s great to know! Thank you for sharing!
All you need to do is install a "speedy sleeve" aka "wear sleeve" on your yoke. This will eliminate the sealing surface problem.
I ordered one recently some other viewers suggested it. I’ve just gotta find time to install and film the follow up video. Thank you!
