      @THE RENAGADE It's age, possibly the result of health complications. One day she was fine and the next thing I noticed she was talking like this in all her interviews. I can't say for certain, since she's a very private person, but if I had to guess, I'd suggest she had a mild stroke at some point. She's obviously had some work done, so maybe it's the result of plastic surgery. But, whatever the case, I've never seen an interview where she was high, ever. Certainly not noticeably.

    I saw her in the Runaways, 1978 I think, and she was clearly the dark shining star. We hung out with her and the band, all of them baddasses drinking until the sun came up. All of them very real. Then 3 times with the Blackhearts. One time her guitar player, I think Ricky was her guitarist then, was injured during a show before ours. Joan played both rhythm and the lead parts. She’s amazing. So good to watch this interview.

    "I love Rock and Roll" was my very first rock album. I was in love with it and Joan. I picked up a guitar a few years later and the fist song I learned was "I Love Rock and Roll". I've now played for 35 years and still nowhere as good as Joan. Thank you for my love of Rock and Roll Joan!!

    Her talking about the stickers was my fave part! I wanted to hear about ALL of them, because that's often how Joan lets her secrets out a bit, through symbolism like that... through letting those things do the talking. It is by that and her songs that we really get anywhere close to knowing her... And that's just barely. But, I'll take what I can get from this mystery-loving woman!

  • @evanisovich

    Just the closeup of that iconic guitar of hers gave me goosebumps. Once she picks it up and starts playing - to me, that is when the woman named Joan Larkin becomes the legend that is Joan Jett.

    My family and I have had the opportunity to spend some time around Joan and her crew the past 10 or 12 years. She's the real deal and her crew is simply amazing. Last time we saw them Joan's white '65 Melody Maker had just come back from a stint at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame so she wasn't using it that night. As I was there with her guitar tech during the show he was getting it re-setup and ready for the remainder of the tour. I had a chance to run my hand up and down the neck of that guitar and all I can say is that the mojo that guitar contains is real. It sent chills up and down my spine. It's also chowdered and beat to hell when you see it close up in person. Joan is an absolute an icon.

    I love the fact she is using the pickups in her guitars that my Uncle Red Roads made, he hand made each and everyone of them and people would have them custom wound for their particular sound, last i knew one of my cousins was still hand making the Velvet Hammer pickups on the side.

      @@Armistead_MacSkye I'm not sure just how it works, I just know from other forums that depending on the amount of windings in a coil and possibly the type wire and other materials needed to make a pickup coil can make subtle to huge changes in the sound, apparently Red had something going with his pick ups because if I remember correctly he had a deal with Fender making pickups for them for a while. Red also made custom Guitars and Amps at his shop in north HollyWood He is also in the steel guitar hall of fame.

    Absolutely riveting.
    Joan Jett is a god, not just of rock. That story, of her, of her guitar and how she modified it.
    I want an on/off switch on my Stratocaster. I’d like to know how she did that. Pretty much the same though a more contemporary version, and male, I got a thrift shop Squier and bit by bit made it amazing which is relatively easy now because ‘back then’ they didn’t sell parts, you had to salvage, and there were no UA-cam videos.
    I took online lessons, but that isn’t so different because you still need the personal drive to do it.
    But a female rocker, when rock wasn’t popular, and everything was against a ‘her’ playing rock or guitar…. I’m just saying Joan Jett is the shit; wow. She’s the Rosa Parks of women in popular music.
    “I’m not a thing to be poked. Don’t poke me.”

    I had a Kiesel guitar made about 1 1/2 years ago. I recalled Joan Jet and the kill switch. I requested one be installed. I am glad I did. The alternatine, is to buy a Planet Waves/ Didarrio-same thing-whin a 90 degree on one end, and straight for Strats with a circircuit breaker on the end near the guitar. This works as well, to stop the hum & buzz. This company has a lifetime warranty. I have had a cable go bad on me-circut breaker failed. I got a new cabele, (The new and improved latest version No questions asked, No reciept & and couple of dollars as the price had dropped. This is why I will only buy Planet Waves/ Didarrio. I would suggest even buying the short jumper cables for you pedasl, if you use them. They generally come in a 3 pack for 10.00, same no hassle return policy any where you have an authorized dealer. This is good if no kill switch.Joan has a signature model guitar, I think it is Epiphone, maybe Gibson Melody Maker, as trhis is what she generally plays. If I recall 1 pick up p90? and a kill switch. I tried playing one. Her guitars do not work for me as the necks are more of the 50s style thicker neck. The price was about 500.00 or so.

    • @storybellz
      @storybellz 2 роки тому +1

      Ironically, young Runaways Joan thought that rock 'n roll was for young people. and that anyone passed 30-ish was too old to be doing it. So, more than anything, I think young Runaways Joan would be shocked that today's Joan had such a change of heart on the matter! Seriously, haha.

    • @L.Scott_Music
      @L.Scott_Music 2 роки тому +1

      @@storybellz I would say young Joan wasn't wrong in those days. And Today Joan is still not wrong in these days.

    • @storybellz
      @storybellz 2 роки тому

      @@L.Scott_Music Well, that's a very enlightened and generous point of view that I know she would appreciate! I'm not sure she was right in those days though, because The Who and The Beatles were already in their 30s when she was a teen, and Jagger was getting on up in years too- but they were fine with age. Elvis rocked til' his untimely death in his 40s, etc. Joan was just being a bit agist back then, like a lot of teens are. Thankfully, most of the nice ones outgrow agism.

    • @L.Scott_Music
      @L.Scott_Music 2 роки тому

      @@storybellz All true. I'm trying to look at it from her point of view, her world she was in and the audience she thought she was performing for. Given that environment, she was right. The guy vs gal thing was very real back then too and the young were less concerned with that dynamic, IIRC. I think when trying to forge a music career/life you have to decide who you are and what you mean to who will listen. So, I'm suggesting she correctly identified the situation for herself, and that she evolved her views is a testament to her character.
      But as to my original post, she might be shocked for the reasons you suggest but I don't think she'd have tried to change it. OTOH, can one achieve success KNOWING they will be successful? Seeing the future might have ruined her career.

    • @storybellz
      @storybellz 2 роки тому +1

      @@L.Scott_Music I like what you're saying, but I'm not sure guy vs. girl had anything to do with what her outlook about age was at the time. Cause in an old interview from Runaways days, it was The Who she was referring to as an example of being too old to rock- and they're all guys. Ironically though, she and The Who are friends now, so yeah she's definitely evolved her thinking on the matter.
