- On November 20th, 2022, a fellow racer and a good friend of ours Jamal Dominique Quantavious Jr. was ejected from his vehicle following a hard impact to the inside concrete wall. Due the hard impact, Quantavious was left hanging outside his drivers side window. Quantavious was then clipped by the metal fence posts (thanks to catchfencing which protects our racegoers), decapitating him. The speed Jamal was traveling at caused him to be flung like a stick when in contact with the fence. After being thrown to the asphalt, he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The Verizon 5g cup series race (which was red flagged after immediate action) never resumed, and was stopped in respect for the late driver. It was also noted that Jamal’s ball flew over the fence and struck a fan, killing them along with 2 others from hurdling debris.
An investigation was opened and it was discovered that Quantavious’ seatbelt button was unintentionally slammed on impact to the wall. The board found that the Generation 7 machine is ill equipped to withstand hard hits to the wall. What a surprise. The board of directors has mandated lower race speeds and better seatbelt buckles to ensure that an accident like this will never happen again. The Verizon 5g cup series will now have larger restrictor plates, racing just above 10 miles per hour.
The Watkins Glen Raceway facility closed down by the end of the week, dedicating its life of beautiful racing to Jamal’s memory.

Looking at this 3 months later, I still haven't moved on. He was a great driver, great friend, and a great father. I hope he eats well in heaven, and legend says it he's still eating to this day. 😔

Nothing is sadder than jumping out of your car mid race, not even getting called by your mom to eat. And to have both of them at 1 moment. Is heartbreaking
