Very cool build Brett, I'm guessing you had TG Maverick playing during the build, you know for motivation😁. Beckers Models will be very pleased that it's inflight. Cheers
Well done buddy as always I enjoy your simplicity and narrative style! One thing that I’m not sure I understood well, the exhaust nozzles where supposed to be one open and one shot at some point you said ? But at the end you opted for both open ? Was it some kind of an issue you had down the line ? Anyway thank you again for sharing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks, yeah, now that you mention it, it looks like I failed to explain that we decided later on that we didn't like one closed and one opened, so went with both opened. Apologies that I missed that in the commentary.
So the stand is a Games Workshop large flying stand, and I just cut out a cross shaped hole in the fuselage of the model, stuffed a little two part epoxy inside the model where the stand would slot in and created a sort of pocket for the stand to rest in. nice and tight, keeps the aircraft stable on the stand, but still leaves it free to remove.
Its taken me a while to get dialed in with Vallejo, but now there are certain colors of theirs that I really love, the Light Gull Gray I used on this Tomcat is one of them, it always goes down great for me. I use their metal colors when doing small areas. If I'm going to do a whole NMF aircraft, I'd use Alclad.
FYI: Just like other Grumman Naval Aircraft the F-14 Tomcat had issues with seals that would leak Hydraulic, Engine Oil and Fuel so the Maintainers Saying was the Bird was not down unless there was a clean SKIN PANEL. I served in the Navy for 6 years and was assigned to a Squadron for a Grumman Platform on the East Coast after Sept 11, 2001 and was at NAS Oceana when the Tomcat Squadrons came home from their Final Combat Deployment. I was also at Oceana when the Tomcat Squadron were transitioning to Super Hornets but there was nothing super about them!
"Please don't tell me we just lost an Engine?"
"Ok!! I won't tell you that!"
Ha ha, their banter was great!
Awesome build. My father was the chief safety inspector for the F-14 for over 25 years. It has a lot of sentimental value in our family.
Very cool., I can see why it would hold value to you, its just such an iconic aircraft!
Bro, i love how you explained the modelling in detail. You're not rushing through both of the details and the presentation too! 😊
Thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
Looks fantastic! I think the Tomcat has to be one of the best looking planes ever built
Much appreciated Kevin! I agree!
That looks so freaking awesome in the inflight pose. You always make cutting canopy masks look so easy. A true master
Thanks Matt!
I loved hearing you explain your process!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice infeed..... and who doesn't love a Tomcat? 👌🏻👏🏻👍🏻
I agree!
What's not to enjoy! Great build. You're commentary really helps in the battle against getting flustered aswell. Hats off to you sir.
Much appreciated!
Ah yes, the F-14 from Top Gun: A New Hope. It was a good movie, though. The trench run was especially memorable.
The trench run was memorable!
Use the force marverick... Don't think...if you think, you're dead.
Hey Brett - what a great video, very helpful as I'm starting the Hobby Boss version, gonna use 3d decals, cheers Liam
Awesome, good luck with your build!
Great Build! That's a much better fit than the F-15 build!
Yes, this is a great kit and I would highly recommend it!
Very nice. Perfect amount of weathering 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Could you show us the Bottle Number of Paints that you use.
OUTSTANDING Build...
I usually try to, but sometimes I forget occasionally, if there is a particular color you would like the number to I can get that for you.
Trully loved it!!! Awesome built!
Thanks a bunch!
Beautiful, looks great.
Thank you! Cheers!
Another great build and video 🙌🏻
Thanks my friend!

You know it, basically had it on repeat throughout the build!
Well done mate!
Thank you!
Where did you get that stand for the finished model? I think it looks great would like to try it
It is a Games Workshop Large Flying stand.
@ Thank you! Great job!
Beautiful build !! Where do you get the foam that you use For masking ???
Thank you, many of the aftermarket sets I get for my models come packed with the foam, I just save that and use it for masking.
Great and excellent work!! Would you please tell me which brand the large blue masking tape is? Thanks.
Thank you, Scotch Blue, found at Home Depot.
Would you please tell me which brand the large blue masking tape is? Thanks.
The blue tape I use is "Scotch Blue" Multi-surface tape that I get from Home Depot.

@@HammerheadModelMaking no need to apologize I just wondered if you had an issue somewhere down the line… anyway I liked the final result.
This is so sick! Also, to replicate the original tomcat from the first top gun can i just paint the whole fuselage light gull grey too?
I'm not 100% sure if the Top Gun 1 tomcats were overall light gull gray. They almost look like dark gull gray to me, but I am no expert!
Tell me more about that stand you used? How did u mod the kit o the stand fits? Thanks in advance

@@HammerheadModelMaking Thanks So Much !!!
Now you should do the 1/72 Airfix Folland Gnat from "Hot Shots"!
Lol, that would be awesome, I've seen decals for them.
@@HammerheadModelMaking I don't remember who did them, but I have seen them. The display base could be the parking space with the parking meter.
Great result! Su-57 Felon to follow???
That would be a cool follow up, but the client will probably do Maverick's F-18 next.
I have a hard time with Vallejo air and metal color, I’m glad to see it can be pulled off.

When I go over to perth western Australia Australia next year and buy heap of models and this one also
Excellent! You wont be disappointed!
You didn't smooth out the glass!
Indeed I did not.
@@HammerheadModelMaking I would do that. It looks horrible with it
@@calvinfoo Appreciate the feedback.
@@HammerheadModelMaking why you didn't do that? It only takes you extra few minutes to do it! You already painted the body so nicely!!
@@calvinfoo It just wasn't a priority on this particular build.
That's a commission build? You gotta be kidding!!
Is there something wrong with it?

Good video. One critique, too many "uhmms". Go back and uhm count. Awesome stuff tho
Thanks, I appreciate the critique, I will try to be more conscious when recording the voice over.
Why in the hell would I give a damn?
I’m sorry, but what are you talking about?
