What about petrification? The guy is a statue now after all. My guess would be that the Greater Will intervened with the assault because Gransax looks completely unharmed aside from the fact that his eyeballs are missing but that might not be because of lore reasons. We already know that the Greater Will possesses enough strength to intervene directly so that is probably what it did, especially considering the tarnished can just walk through Leyndell through all the enemies including Godfrey and Morgott. So my guess would be since they can't fend off a simple maidenless tarnished of no renown, that it was literal divine intervention like you mentioned. And sure the Elden Beast also got bodied by the tarnished but the Elden Beast isn't the Greater Will, instead being a mere vassal of it so you can imagine how obscenely powerful this deity must have been if even the Elden Beast was below it.
Divine Intervention by Queen Marika, if I had to take a guess. The Giants are *also* vitrified without any obvious wounds, save for those indicative of deathblight.

@@pastesir3025 I mean, for Fire Giants of varying size, an easy way to think on it is that humans aren't all the same size. There's variance between individuals. Simple enough, yeah?
If Gransax is ever revived via time travel DLC, his boss fight needs to be like something out of Shadow of the Colossus, or the Dracolich in the first Castlevania Lords of Shadow. Something that huge can't just be used as a really big dragon boss, he needs to be like an entire stage. Of course, platforming and ledge grappling mechanics aren't exactly Elden Ring's strong suits. But if making Gransax's body traversible won't work, at the very least we need something like the Saviour boss battle from DMC 4 (the proper boss battle, not the set piece at the end where you one shot a gigantic old man.)
sorry but i don't think literally mechanics in Elden Ring really fit with those examples. but tbh we really don't need a Gransax fight. he's literally just another ancient dragon who is just bigger. I rather they make a more unique dragon type boss.
Might have to go Armored Core or Zone of the Enders like gameplay with it. They gotta make a mount that can fly, fire magic beams, and strike with magic swords.
"We even got this skull" Is there any skeleton dragon head else where in these games implying a bigger dragon? If we can compare skulls and scale up, wasnt there a big skull in Ash Lake? How about the DS2 jumpscare skeleton?
Just here to remind everyone that if I'm interpreting the Remembrance's item description correctly, Placidusax is waiting for a dragon even greater than he; the Dragonlord awaits the return of the Dragon God, and not the one Zullie was talking about. This Dragon God might not be as big as Gransax, but there's also the possibility that he utterly *dwarfs* Gransax, and he *is* much more powerful than Placidusax, and if he's more powerful than someone who lives outside of time and can stop the ost... Let's just say that I really, really hope I'm right about this.
This is just speculation but I think he's talking about the legendary Stormlord (except that may still be Placidusax) or maybe the Stormhawk King since so much of them is connected to storms. Banished Knights are also connected to dragons and all use the Storm Winds frequently as well and if I remember right, Stormhill and Stormveil castle's winds used to be much much worse in times past
other theories say that the "god" of the dragon lord was the greater will, with the order of the dragons predating the golden order. the greater will then abandoned the dragons, hence why placidusax awaits its return. you might have noticed that there is a more elaborate version of the elden ring decorating the halls of farum azula.
@@morinor1340 That's a possibility as well, but the reason why I want to be right about this is because I just really, really want to fight a dragon god that either isn't a gimmicky puzzle fight or is at least a better gimmicky puzzle fight. It would have to be a gimmick fight. Fighting normal dragons is already a nightmare of camera, and closing the distance with their feet or reaching their head is tough. Now imagine this but 9 times harder
it would probably turn out like a shadows of the colossus style battle where the dragon is basically terrain you have to traverse to find it's weak spot
In regards to feasibility, Greyoll seems to have originally planned to be a proper boss, having movement animations and everything, bu actually activating her AI causes the game to keep over on itself and crash. This could be potentially resolved with some optimization, but Greyoll seems to mark a hard upper limit of what Elden Ring's engine can handle.
Considering greyoll is smaller and crashes the game if you try to get her to stand up (watch Zullies video for more info) I think its safe to say a Gransax npc is out of the question
Radhan is bigger than Godfrey and Radagon together, the former is a general, the two latter were Elden Lords. Better use power level than height to estimate who deserves to rule over the gods.
I half wish we’ll get Gransax as a boss in a DLC if we get one that sends us back in time to the War of the Ancient Dragons. But I don’t know how you’d even fight him aside from a gimmick boss similar to Dragon God, and I don’t know how I feel about that. Then again, From has proven they can make good gimmick bosses now. I love Divine Dragon as well as Rennala and Rykard. I like Yhorm too, but only when I don’t use the Storm Ruler, which just removes his gimmick, so even if he’s a good regular fight, he’s a mediocre gimmick boss. Edit: I suppose you could call Mohg a gimmick boss, too, but aside from Bloodboon Ritual, he’s a pretty normal (though hard) fight. I still love him too, though.

As much as I like the representations of dragons in a lot of games, this is one of the few that comes close to how I, in my brain, have always imagined their size. 2:57 Imagine coming to Altus plateau for the first time and then that Lansseax just pop up out of nowhere after a thunderbolt. I’d dodge his ass until the very end of the game like I almost did for Ekzykes
It's probably not possible to measure, since it's a background feature, but the massive dragon on the mountain at Archdragon Peak in DS3 also really puts into perspective just how insane it was for anyone to fight(and win) against those ancient dragons, even the gods. I didn't even realize it was a dragon on my first playthrough. To then go to Leyndell and use a section of one wing of Gransax as a ramp really just rams that same point home again.
I really appreciate the context and perspective your videos give to the Fromsoft worlds! I enjoy the games way more getting to see how they connect and compare.
An interesting trait that I've noticed with humans is that taller people seem to have proportionally longer limbs. Like, look at Peter DInklage and Wilt Chamberlain. Wilt is all limbs compared to Peter. If a similar situation were to hold true for how From builds their dragons, having a 9x skull size would likely result in an even larger dragon than estimated here due to the increased leg/tail length.
Not really. People are proportionally more or less the same, regardless of height. Chamberlain has normal proportions, he's just fairly lanky, so it visually accentuates his limbs. And while Dinklage certainly has disproportionately shorter limbs, that's what dwarfism (the most common form, anyway) means - people affected by this condition have normal size bodies, but disproportionate limbs.
@@Case_ I mean, I have never seen a short person having long limbs, as well as an absolutely massive person having short limbs. Peter was a bad example giving he has dwarfism, but look at people in the 4’11 -5’5 range, all have relatively short limbs compared to the rest of their bodies. Which is why it’s easier for short people to look shredded compared to tall people, they just have shorter limbs compared to their bodies.
@@onda_dr_quinn3942 No, they really don't. People have more or less the same limbs when it comes to proportional length to their bodies (for example the arm span is generally close to person's height). There are variations based on various factors, but not to a significant degree. What does differ is how the limbs appear visually, both alone and also in the context of the whole body. But that's just a matter of perception, not of actual length/proportion. For example, compare the already mentioned Wilt Chamberlain with someone like Kevin Hart. If you look at the proportional length of their limbs, it's more or less the same. And yet Chamberlain is 7' 1" (216 cm), while Hart is 5' 2" (158 cm). Chamberlain just appears a bit more lanky due to his general body type, so it gives the impression his limbs are noticeably longer proportional to his body. But they're not. Another good example (IMO) is Danny Trejo. From his appearances on screen, you'd get the impression he's pretty tall and intimidating. And yet he's only 5' 6" (168 cm) tall.
@@Case_ I'd take an even stronger position than Case here and say that heavier animals are actually *stockier* than lighter animals. When your weight passes a certain threshold--around that of horses and moose on Earth--falls become dangerous to your bones. So these creatures evolve to be relatively shorter and stockier, with more stable limbs and gaits. The dragon would move slowly and deliberately, and probably have a squat, wide stance with a highly exposed belly when on the ground. Of course, dragons famously couldn't fly and obey physical laws anyway, so this is a moot point.
Imagine 328m size four-winged ancient dragon invading our city. I mean, that size of dragon is gonna use its bolt just like Placidusax did. We are all doomed.
Just wanted to say that I often watch your videos and find them all fascinating. I love your approach to discovering new content. Thank you for doing it. And thank you for adding to the communities depth of understanding of the lore we all love.
While it’d probably be a technical nightmare to make, I’d love for a future DLC to send us back in time to see Gransax while he was still alive, even if just as a set piece and not a full-fledged boss fight.
The only thing I can imagine stopping Gransax would be an Outer God. Perhaps one with the ability to petrify ? I don’t know that the Elden Beast could do it. It doesn’t seem noticeably injured. It’s like it was stopped in it’s tracks instantly. Perhaps a defensive ward on the city? Like Caria Manor had magic defensive wards. Or was that Loretta? Idk
I still think that the “Archdragon” used for comparison in this video is wrong. That unused enemy looks so small compared to that giant dragon we see on a mountain… from FAR AWAY! At least we managed to walk on Lenydel’s dragon wing. And dare I say, the experience of 1 minute climbing a dragon is probably shorter than whatever that monstrosity of a “Mountain Dragon” would have been to explore. But anyway. It would be an amazing challenge if Fromsoft let us fight something that big in a “fair way”. The Dragon God could have been epic, but alas it was not to be.
@@ZullietheWitch I don't follow? The mountain in the background at 0:32 is the arch dragon, is it not? The one many times larger than the one displayed. Dragon God may have lost the title of biggest dragon, but I doubt anyone will ever take that "Biggest Dissappointment"-trophy away from him. Poor guy... Heh.
Lore wise, nothing can stand up to the pre-nerf Maliketh. And he can one shot anything as long as it has a soul no matter how big it is. The reason being that Marika plucked a rune of Death from the Elden Ring and gave it to Maliketh. Rune of death is the concept of death itself, and it is the most powerful weapon in Elden Ring's lore. It is probably the only thing capable of killing gods and immortal beings by simply make them die regardless of their power level. Think of it like how Death Note work. Sadly, parts of the rune were broken and stolen by Black Knife assassins. Rendering the rune's power incomplete. Neither the portion used by present Maliketh nor the portion used by the assassins are as powerful as the undivided rune of Death.
Zullie this is a bit of an odd request, but is there anything in the game files linking the modern dragons (Wyverns really) to the ancient dragons? I'd love to look at a comparison of them from up close to see if Fromsoft designed them to be similar in some ways, or if they are just completely different. Facial structure and wing design might be similar from what i could see looking at them close in game?

I imagine it was Godfrey, Marika, Godwyn and all the of Lyndell Army that went all out on Grandax.. that being said, there are no visible wounds present on gransax. so it does lead me to question how it was done, and so quickly at that. divine intervention of the greater will?
Probably went through the eye, seeing as you'd need to excavate through his bone and scales to hurt him any other way
heart attack lol
Marika probably has hax. It's mentioned that she killed the original fell god that the giants worshipped, in one of the giants flame incantarions I believe
In Dragons God defence, he was still alive when we met him.

That's super weird though. Because the Fire Giant and the Ancient Dragons are supposed to be from the same time period as Gransax and the war of the giants... why are they so tiny???
@@UltraStarWarsFanatic the same reason why there are ancient dragons smaller than Gransax. The fire giant is the last of it's kind, there could have easily been much larger giants during that time

Refer to colossal monsters boss fights in Monster Hunter games
sorry but i don't think literally mechanics in Elden Ring really fit with those examples.
but tbh we really don't need a Gransax fight. he's literally just another ancient dragon who is just bigger. I rather they make a more unique dragon type boss.

I enjoy every single video of you. It's like it pull me back learning something in Final Fantasy from my childhood. Thanks for this.
Speaking of, I want a video comparing FF monster sizes.
Fantastic video! What's the size of the largest enemy that we actually face in Elden ring? Would combat with Granisax be even feasible?

@@nojokejon9577 More like Artorias of the Abyss. As far as I know, the DS2 memories are not DLC, nor are they complete maps with mini-storylines.

@@FreshCyder You use a Physick tear to pretty much negate that attack. That’s the gimmick I’m referring to.

As much as I like the representations of dragons in a lot of games, this is one of the few that comes close to how I, in my brain, have always imagined their size.
Sidenote, when I die I want my well preserved body body to stretch across the wall and preferably castle/palace (rather than a few buildings) of my enemy's city to leave future generations awestruck and intimidated. It's such a flex.

Here's to hoping we get to see Gransax and Placidusax in their full glory in a time travel DLC akin to DS1.

Waiting for a new comparison with the Elden ring dlc dragon :D
sheeeeeeesh that boy is too huge
Idk
Or a heart attack?xd
They actually are the same size, it's hard to visualize it but it's true.

Poor guy...
And Gransax's name is also so dope. Absolutely love his inclusion in Elden Ring
