2020 Volkswagen ID.3 - Interior and Exterior Without Camouflage (ENG) - World Premiere

  • Volkswagen ID.3 is the first of a series of new generation EVs made by Volkswagen. The ID.3, which debuts at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, rides on the MEB platform. This modular platform was custom designed for VW's electric vehicle range. VW ID.3 is the compact model. Other ID models will follow, and the number will denote the segment. The MEB platform allows for adding or removing battery cells, thus making the car larger or smaller.
    First customers will take delivery of their Volkswagen ID.3s in mid 2020, with the limited ID.3 1st Edition reaching 30,000 people, who reserved the car online in mid 2019.

    I’ve watched 3 videos on this car today and Marek answered more of my questions than the rest. You’re also the only one to open the bonnet. Great work for such a short amount of time!

      I’m a little disappointed to be honest Marek. I don’t like the dash controls and the steering wheel. It all looks a bit like a cheap1980s sci-fi movie vehicle. The air vent positions look odd and looks like no vents in the rear. Also no frunk in an EV built from the ground up ! I hope the Buzz will be better. Cheers Marek.

    I really like it. Don't know why people complain. Just hoping the interior quality will be improved from this pre-production prototype. Looks a bit cheaply built now but am sure VW will do a decent job with that. Very happy that it's RWD.

    Thanks Marek! The interior looks poor but as you said it was the preproduction car. Hope VW will improve it. From the outside ID.3 looks interesting. Waiting for your test Warszawa - Zakopane ;-) Do it ASAP. Thanks again and congrat - all other youtubers behind you ;-)

    Thanks - a great overview. Very well done given the time you had with the car. I hope 4:35 marks the start of your new "boot size" test that we will see in all reviews from now on? ;-) Looking forward to when you get one out on the road but I guess that won't be until 2020. By the way, I really like this car, I think it looks great inside and out, especially since this is a pre-production vehicle.

    Given your short time with the vehicle very impressive presentation. Please keep up your great reviews; I have appreciated the recent addition of your bloopers/outtakes. It has added another humorous element to videos. I have one question, you mentioned the seating position in the back is high. Even though you only sat in the back seat a short time, did you feel that the seating angle might be uncomfortable? This has been a complaint with other electric vehicles where the underfloor battery storage has meant legs are raised to an uncomfortable angle.

      From what I felt (and see now in the video) the back seat is higher off the floor, than the front seat. The battery back is mounted flat, so with the seat being higher, you're just sitting more like in a chair. In the front it's a typical car position with legs stretched.

    And what to say about car itself,i am disapointed,i was expected more...
    Exterior has good Vw design,but interior is fail to me,those two screens are ugly as hell,hope they did better job in Golf 8.

    It’s a bit too late. This car should have been put on sale immediately after showing it to the public or they should have waited to show it if they couldn’t make it available. People’s emotional reaction plays such a big part in sales and they want to be able to buy things on the spur of the moment. If you make them wait for two years to have something they look elsewhere. As in the fox and the grapes story. Bad marketing strategies, maybe NO marketing strategies. Also asking for 1000€ in advance to book one makes it look as if there’s neediness of money in order to produce them. The time that was ripe is rapidly disappearing into the past. This car seemed AMAZING when first shown to the public.

    Great review. Black piano shiny plastic is a fingerprint magnet. Wierd place for auto gear stick better near the center console. Those rear angled rear seats just look uncomfortable??

      There are several interior colors and textures. I don't know why they put a black interior car up for the studio photoshoot, because it's hard to see anything, but we can't have everything :)

      They moved the cabin forward as far as possible to maximize interior room in a small car. Far more useful in this case than a frunk.

    I've been having fun watching all the regular UA-cam car review "guys" who were admitted to this studio to make their quick overview of the ID.3. You kept your humor up but I can see this was a "mad rush" job. But nice to see your version, you may be the only guy to lie inside the rear storage. Looking forward to.........next spring? when production models will be available to drive.
    I think I have seen enough static reviews of the car. so why not just steal (I mean borrow) one for an hour and with your GoPro and drone you can give us a review while you evade the German police...............😅 I'll mail you a cake 🎂 with a hacksaw baked inside to help with your prison escape. 🙀

    Good video, but I'm not convinced by the car, especially not the cockpit, instruments and displays.

      @@1_2_die2 It doesn't cram all the instruments and switches on to one screen. That thing is a usability mess. I bet it is a lot quieter on the highway too. Teslas are notoriously bad for sound deadening.

      @@1_2_die2 So why get defensive when I said this is better. Besides, I was talking usability, not aesthetics. Every car reviewer that doesn't have an Elon hard on comments on how putting all the controls on one screen sucks. You can't even change the wiper speed or adjust the side mirrors without using the screen.

    Good design, but VW needs to get its act together and start churning these out in bulk and at affordable prices or we could see Tesla's planned compact car steal the show.

    Why does the brake pedal have a pause symbol on it instead of a stop?

      @Unholy Muppet: In this context STOP means something diffrent. When you press PAUSE on your player you are actually stopping your video/track. When you press STOP you go to the beginning of the alboom/movie. So STOP on the pedal would indicate that after pressing it you disapear and pop up in your garage, so at the beginning of the trip.

    Those pedals @ 3:11 look far too close together, someone with large feet could easily be clipping the brake pedal when pressing the accelerator. Added to which the accelerator is far too close to the transmission tunnel and much too narrow. As there is no clutch why are the pedals not further apart, placed where your feet would be when siting at the wheel. Also don't know if it's just your camera but the central display attached to the wheel mount looks blurred and that drive selector stalk looks filmsy, the park button especially looks like it will break after a year or so of use. Also why no proper physical temperature controls as you'll spend too much time fiddling within the screen while taking your eyes off the road. The whole interior just looks badly designed, different just for the sake of being different, rather than well thought out.

      Pedals are usually close enough for an average person to be able to twist their foot between accelerator and brake. If you're a large bloke you probably need to look for a bigger car or make some adjustment to the existing pedal setup.
      Any blur is a result of the fact I had half an hour with the car, and the next camera crew was breathing down my neck. And no, they didn't even finish. Why VW organises these events and gives camera crews less time, than it normally takes to set up is beyond me.

    Tesla is about to learn that there’s more to making cars than, erm, making cars. A range of 420km give or take means that VW won’t be able to make these quick enough to capture most of this market segment in the next 12-18 months, Could it be that there was a silver lining for VW with diesel-gate?

    I honestly expected more from VW and after all the hype and “tesla killer” headlines I must say this a letdown IMHO, interior looks cheap, lcd screens even cheaper, and I hope that that cardboard thing in the trunk is only for the pre-fab model, exterior is not very modern aswel

      I agree. Building a car from scratch they could have ditched some of the conventional design features, and find more storage space. At least today driving and EV without a set of charging cables is (in some parts of Europe) not a good idea.
