i understand not everyone has a gopro but this is one of the best videos i’ve seen putting the bike to actual use and letting us see how it actually rides and not just specifications! this is a real review. great job!
I cracked a weld on my 2020 Specialized Fuse 27.5. I took it to my LBS and they sent it to Specialized, who replaced the entire bike (frame and components) with a 2021 Specialized Fuse 27.5 within 2 weeks. This all went down this summer. Not only is the Fuse series a great bike for the price points, Specialized has great customer service.
That’s awesome man
I picked up the 27.5 of this same model year recently. I’m a short guy, like 5”4. And your video popped up on its own on my feed. Weird
Stack is too low on most bikes imo, but I'm really tall so maybe that's why. I love hardtails and that's a perfect trail for it. I do feel running as wide a tire as the frame allows is best for all hardtails. I would also like to see more frames allow 29+, it's my favorite tire size by far for a hardtail.
Definitely my next bike been using my1996 Rockhopper comp this long time for a major upgrade probably will swing for the expert 29r
damn you tore up that trail, i'd crash going that fast lol
I think the video is playback speed was increased there is no way this is his real speed lol.
I cracked a weld near the chainstay of my 2021 Fuse 27.5 after a year or so of hard riding. LBS was able to get me a new 2023 Fuse Sport in exchange from Specialized, and the welds look noticeably beefier in that area so I'm guessing I wasn't the only one.
Hey man! I’m going to get a fuse comp soon(hopefully!) and was wondering what you would recommend about changing the handlebars or stack height. I’m going in for a bike fit at my LBS but wanted an opinion from someone who avidly rides before.
I am also 5’10”. What would you say the difference would be between a medium 29 and large 29?
The bike sounds really solid. I’ll get that banging clunkiness you son of a cheap bikes with a chain slapping all over the place sounds real solid.
Great! I'm looking to possibly add a Fuse or Chisel to my fleet. Good to see this video. Also, your pup has a blast out there. So awesome!
She loves the woods! I would get the fuse if you plan on riding some jumps and rougher trails. If you look to smash the pedals to go fast get the Chisel.
@@jctrails Thanks a lot!
Got a red 2020 and I’m so happy with mine.
Big 👍 for some sick riding and a awesome trail dog.
I'm currently looking at buying this bike but plan on making a few changes to it if I do.
Debating picking up a Fuse Comp. Currently on a 2021 Rockhopper expert. What do you all think? Is fuse comp better than the expert rockhopper?
The fuse is a more stout bike with modern geo. It also has current hub spacing and adjustable drop outs. It’s an upgrade from a Rockhopper.
Nice review! Have a Fuse, bought the frame and built it up. Just about the most fun bike I've had, completely agree with your take on it. Stout, reliable, fun, comfy, just a great bike.
Thanks for watching Kevin
Hey man, I'm about to buy the frame as well, question, how you liking it? The geo is good? And also, does it come with headset and cups installed?
@@fengcarlos yeah, love the bike, great bike, very versatile, loads of fun. Came with headset, no cups to press in. Integrated.
@@kevinw6282 oh wow. So basically you install the headset directly to the frame? Is that what you mean by no cups?
@@fengcarlos yep, exactly. Bearing races are machined into the head tube, makes for a very low profile. I ended up installing a King headset in mine, but the one it comes with is certainly fine.
Very nice review - very helpful - I pick mine up today - thank you & happy riding!
what size is the bike and how tall are ya?
I love this bike, I can’t afford a full suspension one and currently ridding a Rockhopper but would really love something a lot more beatable that’s how I got to the Fuse about 2 years ago, the down side is that this bike is not available anywhere near me and by that I live in Hungary and the only place i seems to available is England… :/
That stinks hopefully they will be able to restock soon.
It’s not the restock issue, this bike basically does not exist in my region… I have to change regions on the website just to check out the specs and pics. 😕 very sad about this, there are many issues like this with specialized… shoes don’t come in half sizes for another example, no online shopping from the website.
Uh was watching the dog,uh..what was that again 🤔
I ordered the 2020 expert and finally received a 2022 Fuse expert. So far so good. All Sram bits and a 34 🦊 up front. My stack was 3@spacers. Great bike for rainy / muddy conditions when the full Sus isn’t a smart choice. Great content as per !
Thanks CJ
It's a good bike. A friend of mine has one and let me take a lap around the local singletrack on it. I still prefer my Epic hardtail for XC racing, but as a trail bike the Fuse is a great bike.
I have the 2020 expert. Love the bike! I take it out more than my SC 5010.
Sometimes you just want to ride a hardtail.
A Fuse Comp 29 is now listed for $3k on the Specialized website 😲
Not sure if I can post a link, but here you go: www.specialized.com/us/en/fuse-comp-29/p/199945?color=321202-199945
$3k for a comp spec is nuts. D2C brands are supposed to be a better value than retail shops, so not sure what those guys are thinking. The Canyon Stoic is a way better buy for the money and has more capable geo than a new Fuse.
What a great video. You looked very fast and agile 👍
Just picked up a ‘20 Fuse Comp 29 second hand and I’m stoked! Looking forward to getting on the trail after I do a basic overhaul. Great video review, interesting to see the differences in the build spec compared to the ‘20.
Bro, If you ever get a chance to ride a Surly Karate Monkey steel frame hardtail, awesome ride. The steel frame eats up a lot of the trail chatter and just smashes the downs. Everyone needs a hardtail. Hardtails are cool.
Sure are!
A bike shop in kingsporr tn has a 2022 trek x-caliber model 7 for sale on consignment at a grand. The bike shop owner said that he sold the bike new with tax and all to the guy for 1,600.00. Would that be a good deal. It already has the dropper post seat and a odometer on it. Red colored frame.
Did you ever try it with the seat-stays all the way forward? It turns quicker, accelerates faster, climbs better, more playful. Once I tried them forward I never moved them again LOL!
And now the come is $3k…
That was a bike I was looking at before I bought my Santacruz Chameleon , good review thank you
NP
This is the best bike ride/review I've ever seen
I got my 2020 fuse comp head angle slacken (slack-r) from 66.5° to 65° equip with rockshox 140mm and it rides even more rowdy with it's hidden wild side, just a tweak on it's adjustable drop out depends on your riding style.
The prices are crazy. You said $2200, as in USD? It's $3000 US now. And the Fuse Sport 27.5 is $2400 US.
been riding full suspension EMTB and MTB for a long time and found a pretty solid deal on a 2021 fuse expert the other day. never owned a hardtail but thought it would be cool to have when im just going for a small rip and no need for full suspension or EMTB. what do you think? worth having as an extra rig?
From 7:45 to 10:35, I was left with my mouth open the whole time!! I need a a Fuse bike in my life, asap!!!
What trail is this? Looks like Pine Hills where i live. Heard you say South shore so im guessing im warm. Great review too. Looking at getting the Fuse 27.5
Curious if you’ve ever sampled a Rocky Mountain Growler 40 . If you have which do you think is a better all around bike . My understanding is the Growler would probably be better going downhill but the Fuse would be a better all around bike .
Anybody could respond who has ridden both.
My back hurt just watching this! Every time I reconsider a hardtail I remember how much abuse I would take on the trails (NorCal) and decide to not get one. But man, there is something sweet about them.
The comp is now $3000 in November 2022! That’s a big increase from the prices he said
Hey man I’m new to mtn biking and I have the fuse expert. I feel like I’m a little too hunched over should I add the spacers to elevate my upper body a little bit?
Looks like some New England trails there could be wrong, but that’s what they look like a New England fun stuff
I had the 2020 Comp version - loved it, I do think the geo needs to be updated a bit, and yeah, the stack is low - it's a ripper though.
Give me 30mm more stack and I’m set.
Is that camera on the helmet or chest?
I have a 2020 Fuse Expert as my only mtb. I have put on a 100mm Reba and SLX drive train with 34T chain. I use 2.3 Fast trak tires. I use it for XC races and have been down enduro tracks on it and it has not missed a beat. Love the Fuse as an all round do it all, bike.
Sounds like you have it dialed for speed!
how does it perform as an XC bike? you like that geo with 100mm travel? I want it to get a little faster and lighter feeing. Open to your suggestions.
I'd put an XT shifter on just for the double shift features. Your dog is awesome.
Thats a good idea! She’s a great 🐶
Hi man is what you could try the velo Commencal Meta ht I really bitter having your opinion on. because I’m between the fuse and the Meta ht. thank you
It’s so much easier watching you peddle. I have this bike and it’s hard to make a case against it. Solid Bike!!
You're really flying here that's awesome. I'm also in the south shore of mass. Is this blue hills or wompatuck?
Where are you riding?
He said Hawaii on the volcano path
The specs changed, its Shitram NX cheapal it's also $2300. Nice video and ride.
What's the name of the trail you jump to after the good part? Newish to the area and still finding all the nooks and crannies of the good part?
It started at 1800 and in just over 1.5ish years it's at 3000 now.
Did you switch the rear wheel out for a 27.5+? If so, how did it ride with 29/27.5 mix? I've been running a 3.0 (F)/2.8 (R) on my previous bike. Just bought a 2020 Fuse Expert, but like the cush of the + tire in back. Seeing if this works.
I got the 2021 Expert for $2400 in August of 2021. I ordered the bike in November of 2020. It's the 12 speed shimano version with a fix 34. It's such a great all around bike. I agree the shimano 12 speed even at this spec is amazing.
I’m like 5’10.5” with a 33.5” inseam and a local shop has a medium but not a large and I’ve been hesitant to get it because I worried it would be too small. I loved my medium Marin pine mountain but I had a lot of seat post on that bike. I compared them on geometry geeks and the fuse medium has more stack and reach than the pine mountain that I had. Any input you could give me on making a size decision?
@@thecodydyer thanks for the reply! I did end up grabbing that medium. I had to buy from that shop because I had $800 in credit with them that I didn’t want to give up by shopping elsewhere. It’s been a great bike so far.
Hey guys! Im really wanting to get into this sport but don’t know what size bike to get.
I’m 6’1 weighing about 210. From my ankles to my knee is about 15-16ish.
Any help I’d greatly appreciate
A good starting point is multiply your height in centimeters by 2.5. This is your reach. You are my height so that’s 464cm. Then choose your bike size based on this reach number. For this Specialized Fuse frame that is a Large.
Go smaller frame if you want more agility and control; go bigger frame if you want more stability. Search Joy of Bike with Alex Bogusky and watch his bike sizing videos to learn more about proper fitment. Great channel to learn and entertaining as well!
Do you think the bb would be too low if you were to run 27.5+ front and rear?
Great video truly shows what the bike will take if you have the skills great bikes I have a 2021 comp with spank spike vibrocore 50mm rise bars it’s a ripper👍🏼
Thanks for the review! How does this bike compare with the NS Eccentric?
-oh and yeah the Stout wheels are pretty good. My buddy has been riding them very aggressively on his Stumpy the past 2 years.
Holy Crap! You smoked that trail!
Have you tried the growler 40/50?
I have the 2016 and to this day its on good condition 😊
I had the 2020 Comp version - loved it, I do think the geo needs to be updated a bit, and yeah, the stack is low - it's a ripper though.
the dropper height is unfortunate...
What trails are you at in the video ? Must be near the cape with that sand
You were going warp speed. Also I couldn't tell if you were talking about the bike or the dog sometimes 🙂
Haha! She’s fast for sure!
Probably one of the best videos on YT overall man!
Do you recommend the ground control T7 tires? Trying to lighten my stumpjumper for my local mild trails and it seems like the best option. Thanks love the content.
Yeah definitely. I use to run a 2.6 GC on the front and a 2.3 GC on the back on my old stumpy
I got a deal on a 2012 niner air rdo a couple of years ago. It was the xtr with carbon cranks and the sid carbon 100mm fork. I have a jet 9 rdo and figured how much different could a hardtail be? Well, it turns out, quite a bit. Every little bump killed my back. So it sat there until a couple months ago when I got a cheap suspension seatpost. I haven't touched my other bikes since. It is so freaking fast. Now I've got a pnw coast dropper coming tomorrow. 40mm suspension and a dropper in one.
Also, that's one thing I don't understand. Forks come with plenty of tube, leave it up to the customer to decide how high he wants it.
Hartails rip
Not 2200.00 today 2300.00
Where are you riding? These trails look super fun!
You’re from the south shore ?? Where’s that trail located looks super fun
Pine hills. Plymouth
great review my friend👏😎
Thanks🤟
wow nice bike
Thx
I cracked my 2018 fuse last year and now I'm skeptical on buying another hardtail, can someone vouch for this bike?
Specialized frames have a very long warranty, you should reach out to them
I snapped my chainstay on my Specialized a few years back, they gave me a new frame.. same model, newer frame.. Specialized top company & value the customer
Good riding! Been looking at this bike and looks fun.
Great review. Glad your back from that injury. Could you try to review a canyon stoic? It’s been at the top of my wishlist lately😂
I’ll try to get a leg over one.
Now that's some nice riding!
Man you were hauling absolute @$$. I snagged a 2020 expert because of your review on it. Will be cool to see you on the hard tail more! Are you going to swap out the fork on this like you recommended on your 2020 review?
Yeah I’m looking for a RS pike type fork for it
@@jctrails Gotcha. Same travel length of 130mm? I was gonna do the same but I just picked up the Scott Spark RC Team AXS and am now broke 😂
Still absolutely love my Fuse though. Once hard tail gets in your blood..
I have epic evo n love it. Been looking at the fuse for a second bike. I have one I’m borrowing n it’s heavy for sure.
It’s a great 2nd, 3rd, it even 4th bike😬
Hey great review! What helmet are you using may I ask?
Thanks!
www.foxracing.com/product/speedframe-pro-helmet/25102.html
Nice....
I’m from RI just started. Picked up a 2021 fuse comp and it’s great, trying to find new bars for it though.
Also where is this?
Try the Carbon 1 up bars,
Shop near me had a comp at $1600.00, but I wanted the expert at $2200 at the time. I’m thinking I should’ve maybe just grabbed it.
If I see a deal I just grab it, always can sell it later
Just got the 21 Comp. Here in Sweden it’s $2550 and the expert is $3890 (with taxes). $2200 for the expert is a steal in my world.
Solid footage
Great video!!! I just got my Fuse Comp 29 three weeks ago after waiting 6 months to arrive 🤦🏽♂️🤣 I already put different handlebars with a 30mm rise but was curious what stem did you put on your bike? Thanks
I have a Descendant 40mm stem
Why not 35mm stem? Would it be too short?
I was thinking of making my fuse shorter to 35mm then put a 35 or 40mm rise bar. Would it be too much?
I find myself leaning a little forward with current set up.
Thanks, great vid! Great dog!
@@jilenvera5243 the 40mm stem paired with the 30mm rise bars fits me perfectly. You can go with 35mm stem if that puts you in comfortable position.
dang man thats awesome..
That mark up 😑
Forget the bike, I wanna know what glasses are those?
Here ya go pimp!

Is this Pine Hills?
Cool trail
i left after the way he said deore
✌️
A video of handlebars.
I guess you want to see my pretty face 😘
How does it climb vs the epic evo?
Not a fair comparison one has a shock and the other does not
Bike sounds pretty quiet on the trail.
It’s a solid bike
It’s a solid bike
Fantastic riding you was sending it 🚀🚀🚀 amazing job 💪🏾💯
Thanks man stay tuned I got some more great reviews coming
Bought my gf the 27.5+ base version and I got lucky because they found a 2021 left at their warehouse so it was only $1500 compared to the 2022 thats now $1900 for basically the same thing with LOWER spec Sram components. Your boy won out on that one!!!
