Based on what I saw in PSG’s match vs Atlanta and RB Leipzig, I think Bayern has a very high chance of winning the championship tonight.
Sure, Neymar, Mbappe and Di Maria are amazing technically and they certainly have the ability to hurt Bayern on the counter especially given Bayern’s high defensive line. But I think Bayern’s overall approach to over press them and deny PSG’s build up from the CB and Midfield is correct. To stop PSG, you have to have the ability to shut down their build up from the beginning to force Neymar to drop to the midfield zone away from the opponent’s attacking third. The less time and less space Neymar spend wondering between the opponent’s midfield line and defensive line, the less danger Neymar poses. Bayern is an expert in squeezing the space between the midfield and defensive line.
The way how Bayern combines the collective team effort and individual talent in pressing and build up play as a unit is simply beyond my words and is too much for PSG to handle even with Neymar, Mbappe and Di Maria at their disposal. This Bayern in a way reminds me how Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona used to play at their prime, with less possession dominance and technique on the ball but with much stronger physical presence.
