It was inside of her all along :D . This is my metaphor for the darkness (or the unknown) inside of all of us beings. There's a serpent in the holiest gardens, we just need to learn how to make friends and not enemies with them. Hence - the "New Gods" is not a religious song, it is more about the powers inside of us and the importance of facing your fears by becoming familiar with them. Having friends are always better than having enemies ;P
