- Overlanding in the Northwest during the month of January means dealing with unpredictable weather, and that was CERTAINLY the case on this trip.
Hit by a powerful, unforecasted coastal storm, we were forced to make a massive re-route and search for camp in an area we were NOT expecting to be in, and spoiler alert, it was spectacular!
Joining me on this trip was David from Off the Grind. If you want to watch his video showcasing this adventure, you can check out his channel @OFFTHEGRIND

Such a great weekend! Thanks for coming along for the adventure
I came for the McGriddles. I wasn't disappointed.
Thanks for sharing guys
Always on the lookout for pockets of clear weather in the evergreen state.
Hahaha, yes! Ain't that the truth??
I totally agree, there are endless amounts of beautiful places to explore out on the Peninsula. Thanks for bringing back some memories of the trip we made out there a few years back, we were planning on making a trip out there this summer but my Kia Sorento that used to be our adventure vehicle starting having some serious issues which gave me the opportunity to get the vehicle I've been wanting for 20 plus years now, a 2nd gen 4runner...just wish i got it at the beginning of the summer and not end lol
Oh man, bummer about the Sorrento but congrats on the 4Runner. That's a pretty big upgrade!
Nice video. The area you are in now is on my bucket list.
Thanks! And yeah, it's definitely a worthy bucket list destination.
Fun! I spent the night at Snag Lake a couple weeks ago. Had a nice hike from one lake to the other. Fantastic cell service from that tower. I didn't realize the history. Thanks for another well done, entertaining vid. Cheers.
Awesome! With better weather, Snag Lake would be a great spot to camp! How were the hiking trails around the lake? We poked around them a bit, but didn't get too far
@@WheretoNextOverland The trails were good. We walked around both lakes and in between the two. Was super cold, but not raining. Walked around Snag Lk with my morning coffee.
Big thanks to David at Off the Grind for planning this trip. So glad we were able to salvage the weekend given the crazy weather. The Olympic Peninsula NEVER disappoints!
With a cell phone and weather apps you should never be surprised by a storm. Starlink RV is even better for trip and weather planning.
I definitely hear what you're saying, but it was a surprise in the sense that when we went to bed the night before, all forecasts had the weather forecasted as mild and improving throughout the day.
Ultimately, the weather just ended up being much more severe than what was forecasted!
That spot is one of my favorites. If you can secure it, you have that entire river bank to yourself. My family really enjoyed that spot.
Oh man, that spot was such a great surprise! So lush, so green
I drove by you guys in Hoquiam that day headed to the coast lol
Hah! Small world
Looked like a fun trip to some new areas that you’ll have to revisit on a clear day. Very nice camp stop that you ended up at too and the food looked amazing!
Definitely! That area of SW Washington we explored had a lot going for it ... and a lot of spur roads we didn't get a chance to explore. Good excuse to go back another time!
Awesome video! One of your best yet, I think. A great compliment to Dave's video; and you guys got out of here just in time. It definitely was not safe up in the hills.
Thanks so much! And yeah, the more intel we've heard from others who were in that area, the more it seems like we definitely made the right call!
@@WheretoNextOverland absolutely.
The rainforests in pnw look like they come straight out of Jurassic park! Such a cool place. I am looking forward to a video of your drawer system, planning on driving to KY to pick up one soon.
Haha, yes!!Every time we camp out in those forests, I half expect to get eaten by a Raptor. 🤣
You're picking up a drawer system from SHW Offroad?? You're gonna love it!
Working on a full walk-through of the drawer system / sleep platform from them. Hopefully finished before too long!
@@WheretoNextOverland Now that will be a content to end all content! 😆
Still planning. But I will definitely get one from SHW. Tired of totes lol
@MaxD Expeditions I hear ya! We used totes for a looong time, and they worked fine .... but a good drawer system is a game changer, for sure. Worth it just for knowing where everything is without needing to dig through layers of stuff!
Was this from the weekend of 01/20? Those folks you recorded floating down on the raft, I saw them in Montesano that morning. 😂
Yep, sure was!
@@WheretoNextOverland Nice! I was heading towards Westport. Love the spot you guys were at!
It was a killer spot, for sure. Hoh Rainforest juuuust outside the National Park boundary
@@WheretoNextOverland Been wanting to explore that way! Thanks for the heads up, keep the content coming.
Awesome vid! Hello! What is your tire and wheel setup!?
Thank you! Tires are BFG K02 285/75/16 and wheels are SCS F5's
