Good call on the Prospeed Rack molle. I have their rack and a bunch of their accessories. Waiting on their interior molle panels coming soon. Upgrades look great. Hope to see you guys soon!
Those mounts were very much a custom thing. I came across a thread on IH8MUD.com where there was a discussion about mounting an awning on the factory roof rails and got the idea from there. If you can find that thread there's some good options there!
Love Mule in Issaquah (Preston)! They installed an ARB Old Man Emu suspension kit on my 1st Gen Toyota Sequoia. Super happy with it. Was just there the other day and I wanted to buy everything I laid my eyes on, but my eyes are bigger than my wallet.
Awesome upgrades! I just installed the Front Runner Slim Line 2 on my 100 series and it's been a game changer especially as I sleep inside on a platform. You should bring the truck by a Seattle Cruiserheads meetup soon. We were talking about planning meetups around different series to encourage more of certain rigs to show up. Would love to see it on a 100 series night. There seems to be more and more 100's showing up lately!
We'd love to stop by a Seattle Cruiserheads meet-up. I'm in the FB group so I'll keep an eye out. I saw one at Golden Gardens awhile back, but we couldn't make the timing work. Do y'all do them there often? It's suuuuuuper close to our place so that would be awesome
@@WheretoNextOverland we rotate them around the area every month to give people a closer option every third month or so. North, East, and South. They're every second Tuesday of the month.
The owners manual calls for it. General consensus on the forums is that it doesn't need it though. That engine is designed to run on crap gas in third world countries. I'll occasionally fill it with premium, but mostly I just give it regular and it has been a non-issue
I am looking at buying a 2005 LX470 with 107,000 miles. At the very least would want to change out the wheels/tires. I am curious if one of our videos goes into your tire set up, or can you share what I should take into consideration with the existing set up and how to go about modifying to more of an offroad spec.
Great video, love the mods. I just bought an '04 Land Cruiser and would love to install the same ones that you did in this vid. Wish I was local to the Seattle area so I could go check out Mule. Looks like an awesome overlanding/4x4 shop. Look forward to your future adventures!
Thank you! Congrats on picking up a 100! They're an incredible platform to build on. Yeah, Mule is awesome. Except I want to buy everything they have when I go 🤣
I assume you loose the rear window vent option with the pro speed attached? Have you had any issues off road with that much weight pushing up against the window? I’ve heard it best to distribute weight as best one can seeing how the gas tank is on the driver side, I think I’ll order a passenger side panel. Thank you for the inspiration. I have a same year and color LX, it’s nice to see what my rig can look like. Thanks.
Yeah, you do lose the rear window vent. At least I would assume so. I don't want to try opening it with the panel on, haha. Haven't had any issues with the weight pushing up against the window. I think the little 'suckers' distribute the weight pretty well. As far as distributing weight goes, you're probably right ... but one thing to consider is that you might wanna have the gas tank on the same side as your filler. That way you can create a system where you can fill without needing to remove it. I haven't done that, but I've seen others who have
Those were the two brands I was deciding between. Truthfully, I went with the Sherpa primarily because Mule was able to order it and get it quicker. I noticed that the shipping lead time for the Sherpa stuff I ordered was about 5 days versus about 6 weeks for the Prospeed accessories I ordered
Love the new setup, guys! Question: I am going to do a set of rock lights and a light bar, but how did you mount the power switch in the cab? I would like to have it mounted where the panel is next to the steering wheel, but curious to see how yours are implemented.
The switches were mounted to the left of the steering wheel in spots where there were some 'blanks'. Mule had some OEM style Toyota switches that fit perfectly in those spots. Looks OEM honestly!
You are getting seriously dialed in on the LX. LOVE LOVE what you've done - looks terrific and appears to be super functional. I would love to see how they wired up the switches for the lights. Also, ever considered a winch? I swear I think I saw an LX with a winch mounted to the factory bumper where the license plate goes.
Thanks! Yeah, it's finally starting to look how I always envisioned it in my head haha. I've considered adding a winch a number of times. You are correct that it can be added with an aftermarket mount while retaining the front bumper. Maybe one of these days! The winch is one of those things that I'll likely be adamant I don't need ...... riiiiiight up until the day I need it. Haha.
Still rocking the factory AHC. All we've had to do is add King Springs in the rear to help with the extra weight (drawers are 200lbs) and make sure neutral pressures are dialed in. Love the AHC and hoping it keeps going strong
@@WheretoNextOverland thats great news - I have an 07 LC with ahc and I’m looking at upgrading my wheels/tires but want to keep ahc (it’s awesome!) I happen to be eyeing the same scs f5 wheels. Are you running 285/75/16 tires on your f5s?
@M4ttj0nes yessir! That size tire works really well. I did get a bit of minor rubbing because of the offset on the F5's .... but a little trimming of the fender liner and its pretty much nonexistent now
Absolutely love the upgrades! Mule Expedition Outfitters....great place! I was secretly voting for a winch (I think the LX wants one as well) but maybe on the next round of upgrades!
Glad I found your channel! I’m currently looking for a 100 series lx470. I got to drive one the other day at The Overland Truck Store in Bremerton. It’s like driving a couch! And seeing other videos on how they perform on the trail and the durability of the 2UZ-FE and just the whole platform and aftermarket support is really easily wanting me to switch from a Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 to an lx. Aside from my basketball team of children that don’t fit in the Grand Cherokee to go overlanding! I’ve never been to MULE but have made deliveries to the race shop behind them. Might have to hit up that open house!
'Driving a couch' is a pretty good analogy for sure! That's one of the things I love about our 100. It's supremely comfortable getting to the trail (especially when the trail is a few states away!) but still manages to be super competent on the trail. Such an awesome platform! If you make it to Mule for their open house, you're welcome to come poke around our LX!
@kurthous9403 yeah no doubt. I'll update you if I notice anything. It could also have go do with the fact that I'm usually listening to music to drown out the howl of the K02's haha
Another question, different topic. I think your LX is a 2000. The self-proclaimed overland gurus say the ideal LX is either a 2006 or 2007 because of the HP increase and some other additions/increases that I don't know enough about to judge. Any thoughts? Ok with your HP given your adventures? ever wish for more?
Yeah, good question. The 06-07 are definitely the most sought after due to the HP boost, but probably more so, due to the 5 speed transmission vs the 4 speed in mine. I mean, it a'int fast, but it'll cruise comfortably on the freeway at 80+ no problem. The 4 speed doesn't generally bother me with the exception of big hills on freeways where it kinda hunts for gears. I haven't driven an 06-07 to compare, so maybe ignorance is bliss? I do think the 2000 is a bit of a sweet-spot of it's own. It was the first year to get ATRAC, it has the stronger front diff vs the 98-99, and it still has a factory stereo head-unit that can easily be swapped out, unlike later models where climate controls and everything were integrated into the screen. Personally, I don't have enough complaints about my 2000 to want to upgrade to a later 100 .... but I suppose that might change if I drive one.
For sure. We're loving the molle so far. Looking forward to putting it to the test on a big trip coming up! Appreciate all you do for us 100 series owners!

Now that you have gasoline strapped to the outside of your vehicle you should use your tire table and cook stove on the other side of the vehicle so in the case of fumes escaping you won't have it explode in your face while you are cooking. As a former EMT you might want to re consider mounting 4 gallons of gas to the side of your vehicle. In the event of an accident it is a huge fire hazard to everyone involved in the accident.
These are all very good points and I appreciate your feedback! I DEFINITELY would never cook anything underneath where that fuel tank is. That would be a terrible idea for sure. Regarding the gas being mounted to the truck, I will say that I don't leave it mounted there when it's not needed (which means that 90% of the time, it's not mounted). When it IS mounted, I often have it empty until we begin a stretch where extra fuel may be necessary. It's not perfect, but the risks are mitigated as much as possible by doing all of the above.
