  • In this video ill show you what you can do to make your regular 1/2" drywall or 5/8" drywall more soundproof. If your wall is open you can get behind the drywall, there is a product you can use that will make your wall block more sound from coming into the room.
You'll learn about the tools and materials you need, particularly acoustical sealant, which is an essential component in this process. Unlike regular caulking, acoustical sealant won't dry out or crack over time, which can compromise the seal and let in air, noise, and temperature changes.
I'll show you how to use acoustical sealant to seal the seams between the drywall pieces, where they meet the studs and where the two layers of drywall meet. I'll also provide a few additional tips, such as using backer rod to fill in gaps around electrical outlets, and putty pads for soundproofing.
If you're looking to soundproof a wall or add some weatherproofing, acoustical sealant is an inexpensive and easy solution that can make a significant difference. Watch the video to learn more, and don't forget to check out my channel for more DIY tips and tricks.

Never thought of "sealing" between the drywall panels... but it makes so much sense! It's been a journey to say the least in "finishing" my condo - after 3 lousy, half-ass contractors & my husband's passing - I'm tackling this on my own - made a million mistakes myself, but still less expensive than getting screwed by crappy contractors - so I appreciate your time & talent in sharing these tips!!!

    Good tips!
Sometimes we forget that wood is a living material, it will change size over time and a woonden stud will never be as straight as a metal one so don't forget to seal!

I dont want to rip down the existing drywall. Can I put green glue on MLV, hang that over the existing wall, and then hang another layer of drywall on top of all that?

Yes this would definitely help! Just make sure you leave no gaps between the sheets of mass loaded vinyl. Best of luck!!

What do you recommend to use to install MLV to an already existing drywall?
    Nail, staple, etc?
I intend to add a second layer of 5/8 drywall after.

Acoustic sealant is intended be applied between materials. It’s not something that will be a more beneficial acoustic barrier

Acoustic “compound” is what goes between layers of drywall. Acoustic “sealant” is what closes the gaps between things to keep noise out.

Yes, you’re totally right. Acoustic compound should be applied between the layers of materials and will make a much bigger difference in sound proofing than the acoustic caulking, although ideally both should be implemented
