IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: For all those who want to become IFS officers in 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027
You may not agree with a few points in the podcast - and that is absolutely fine. NO SCIENTIFIC society can thrive without a debate.
However, I’m of the firm opinion that for a country to succeed and grow - the most important thing is to have well motivated people occupy important positions.
Think about it? If you have motivated people in important positions - they will learn, they will mistakes - but most importantly they will contribute. And they will do so with extreme passion and pride.
A country can NOT thrive if it doesn’t have good ethically motivated people in important positions. And today, one of the most important positions in India is that of an officer in the Indian Foreign Services.
The Indian Foreign Services matters today because foreign policy is no longer foreign. It affects people right where they live. Today whether you are a resident of Delhi, or Durban, or Dallas - whether you are from New Zealand, or Namibia. It is simply not realistic to think only in terms of your own country.
A women farmer in India may not have the slightest idea who the foreign minister of India is, or would care about the American Withdrawal from Afghanistan. But she will know when the kerosene of her kitchen stove has become unaffordable.
She doesn’t understand international economics but she is directly affected when she isn’t able to sell her produce because of some negotiations that happened in the corridors of the WTO or the UN.
Our health, our security, our prosperity, quality of life, and even our businesses are increasingly affected by what happens beyond our borders which means we can’t simply be indifferent about our neighbors.
Sadly, many youngsters who get into the IFS are those for whom IFS was NOT even the first preference. They got into the IFS because they couldn’t get into the IAS.
This needs to change, and this will change. Because now we are launching something called the MisFits.
    *******
2 years ago, I was at the United Nations HeadQuarters in New York - when I received an anxious call on WhatsApp from a friend.
Only this time it was his sister - informing me that her brother is no more.
What followed next were frustrating moments of grief, disbelief, and anger.
Why? Because it was only a few years ago - my friend and I appeared for the UPSC Civil Services interviews together in Delhi - and we both couldn’t make it to the final list.
I moved on, but he couldn’t - until he exhausted all his attempts.
I couldn’t believe why someone as bright as him could even succumb to the pressures of not clearing an exam.
And more so, how can anyone give so much importance to an EXAM?!
    But the mind plays tricks.
It plays tricks when you are alone and in an ecosystem that gives so much importance to one singular outcome in life.
It plays tricks when you give power to society to comment on your capabilities.
It plays tricks when you ‘think’ that there’s no way out of this exam cycle.
But the fact of the matter is that in a country like India 99% will fail exams - especially when one such exam is the UPSC Civil Services.
After the news, I was clear in my head that I will NOT let a single person ruin their 20s because of this exam.
It goes without saying that clearing the UPSC exam has changed many lives.
But at the same time, millions have ruined their 20s stuck in the endless loop of appearing and reappearing for the UPSC Civil Services and living the rest of their lives as 'losers' of some kind.
They approach the exam with high hopes- but if for some reason they end up failing in civil services, they should ALL have opportunities to bounce back in life.
MisFits.Bet is going to be for you. Misfits is for those who are confused, and struggling to find right guidance in the quagmire of irrelevant coaching institutes that are sadly run by motivational speakers and entertainers (and not by the teachers).
MisFits.Bet is going to be for India’s next 100 diplomats - who will promise me that they will appear this exam just once. And they will do so with all their might, right guidance, and support system. And if for some reason they don’t make it to the final list they will pivot.
We live in a world that is innundated with a lot of information. And sadly, most of that information is irrelevant. MisFits will provide you clarity in your 20s. Because in a world filled with irrelevant information. Clarity is indeed a super power

One of the biggest complaints I have with civil services is the promotion criteria ,it's all fine till maybe 30 years of experience ,you get guaranteed seniority ,however most of the seniormost post of the secretary level require more than 35 years of service ,suppose someone decided to take upsc after completing say a master's degree or doctorate ,and takes 2 years to clear such an exam ,under most circumstances it's likely they will not have the requisite experience towards the end of their career to reach the most senior post even though they might be better qualified ,this is a very big drawback

You mentioned not wasting your 20s in this attempt
I had once sat for this exam when I was 23 and did not attempt again
Went ahead with a job in political consulting without doing masters and this job taught me a lot and I have no regrets. However, being an IFS officer is the only thing I see myself doing well. The reason I moved on at 23 was because I did not want it badly enough and had the fear of this loop of reappearing. Now I wish to do masters in International Relations and while studying for masters also wish to prepare for civils.
But if there’s an advantage to those who clear it early in terms of career trajectory, then where does that leave someone like me who is currently 26, will finish masters by age 28 and hopefully clear the exam by 28 itself

      Hi Sakshi,
The objective of an educator is NOT to spoon feed.
There will be NO SPOON feeding in my classes. There will no dictation of notes. And there will not be any aspirants to even take notes.
My goal is to teach all IFS Fellow how to learn, analyze, form conjectures, think analogically, and then leverage these principles and apply in the UPSC Framework. This is how they will get a rank. My goal would be to focus on efficiencies. My goal would be that all IFS fellows yield thrice the outcome with one third the inputs.
The approach is going to be very contrarian to what is usually used in UPSC classrooms. This is the reason why we are putting a cap on number of seats. Hope this helps!

IAS Oficer Divya Mittal got transferred because she made it possible to get fresh water supply in Mirzapur district where entire population was dependent on private Tankers and water supply miles from home. Reason being some minister got upset because they were not invited for inauguration. Later her posting was annulled as well.
So, Naman Sir, getting right people to important positions would be only half work done, because they are not going to be able to do good work until political landscape improves. Let us know your thoughts on this! And Thanks for spreading so much awareness among us! 🙏❤

I strongly believe in the concept of manifestation, but more in technical form.
I believe that our actions and thoughts form certain tendencies in us, through which our future or can say our very next step of life gets affected.
I am 23 and tried giving UPSC for 2 consecutive attempts but failed in the prelims stage itself, I am very disheartened after these results. To be honest I prepared for my 2023 very seriously and the agitation of not clearing the prelims took my one more year and exhausted with that attempt too, now I am on the verge of quitting the exam and seeing other government exams to pick myself back, but I couldn't find any purpose to even prepare for that, that will again naturally will throw me out of the competition. I'm in 12 th grade. I've always had a keen interest on geopolitics. So, I've made it my goal to become a diplomat and represent my country. But, my problem is which course I have to take for grad. I want to take political science. But the people tell in case if you don't get ifs, you won't be able to get into anything with a political science degree. I wonder if you have any valuable ug course to suggest for someone like me, Sir.

  • @prernasingh3465

    Hi Sir
Starting with the preface , that I would be appearing in 2023. Now with reference to that I have conflicting views. On one hand , I feel this approach of joining the course would be useful as it would provide a mentorship and an interactive environment ,which also in a way keeps a person on track and also on observing the structure i feel the course is structurised in a way to accomodate the tests as well but at the same time I feel that for appearing in 2023 it is not the right time to join any kind of course as in might in turn have a negative impact because adapting to any new schedule takes time
And then if I look in the near site , even missing on prelims seems like a big deal (I totally understand there is no award for clearing prelims)
Might be a really minor issue , but do you have any advice on the same

    • @namanshrivastava
      @namanshrivastava  Рік тому

      1. MisFits is designed for someone who will appear in 2024, 2025, 2026, or 2027.
The learning models I intend to teach all MisFitters will need practice. Sadly, you don't have a lot of time until Prelims. We will go slow in the beginning, and will catch pace when folks fall in love with learning.
We will only be able to cover History, Geography, Environment, and some portions of Polity before your Prelims in 2023.
      2. However, If you are sure that you will clear UPSC Prelims in 2023 - MisFits can help you in Mains and Interviews.
If you think you will fail in UPSC Prelims in 2023 - MisFits can perhaps help in 2024. But do prepare for 2024 attempt with a decent back up plan in mind. I don't want you to make UPSC a 5 year plan.
      All the best! :)

    Hi Naman,
I'm a working professional and came across this today itself. While, I feel I should enroll into this but I have a few questions.
    1) Since, this started in June and orientation is also done, I have missed a major part of it and being a first time UPSC aspirant, it leaves me a little confused on how to make up for the lost time and lectures?
    2) Does it only focus on IFS or other services as well?
Please help me with some answers so that I can decide accordingly.
    Cheers,
    Sachin
