The most exciting thing about this announcement from Panasonic is the future acquisition of Arri log C. Which for us GH6 shooters is a blessing we thought we were forgotten forever
On the GH7, can you record on both and at the same time, on the SD and the CF Express card? The GH5 offered to record on both SD card slots at the same time, which is a layer of safety should one of the SD card fail. I think the GH6 was not offering this SD/CF Express dual recording...
There is no streaking lines issue?. I bought a GH6 which had this pronounced problem and I had to sell it, and Panasonic didn't even apologize to the GH6 users. How can I trust them?
Since there's no OLPF, there will always be some moire, I guess. It wasn't too bad. An SH-1 has it. But look at the price. Most seem to value sharpness over softer look these days. @RobertJohnPhotography
@@keithnisbet I've had my S1H since it came out. Filmed everything including in recording studios where Moiré really shows up on sound proofing and Amps. Has not happened with my S1H. I know that it could show up, just hasn't for me. I noticed it right away in this video. I saw another guys video from his S5IIX, he showed Moiré on his jeans. Another guy was filming a brick building and getting it really bad. I know it's rare and lighting has to be right. I'm waiting for the new version of my camera. Hopefully they keep the OLPF in.
@@RobertJohnPhotography That was my point. I am in agreement. It isn't a major issue at all with the S1H. You're fortunate to own one. But of course it's in a different price category than the GH7. So I guess some of us have to put up with the moiré curse. Glad you're enjoying the S1H. No need for another camera as far as I can guess.
Thanks for making this video. I want to upgrade, what’s that autofocus like. Is it on the Canon and Sony level? I’m looking forward in hearing more about the GH7.
Damn, I already got the G9ii. But on the other side I do not really need the additional video features. The most important for me are already in the G9ii. Might buy the new audio adapter though. Is it already clear if it will be compatible to G9ii as well?
Would love to see a test of the train/plane autofocus (also hoping it comes to the S5IIX) I got my GH6 last year and picked up an S5IIX this year. May be worth trading in the GH6.
Picked up the g9ii about two months ago because I needed a new camera to go with my gh5s, and didn’t want the dfd auto focus in the 6. Might have to return it now once I see some more gh7 content. I’ve got until July 2nd to decide. 😬
can someone please clarify what 50fps 4:3 Open Gate modes this camera supports? Proxies at the least? any improvements over the Gh6? or is it just 4.4k with a significant crop?
Mann Ngl I started on the lumix g7 and I loved it bought the GH5S and loved it… the let down on the GH6 was just way to hard to bear being they made us wait like 5 or so years I switched to Sony and got he FX30 and have not been disappointed since hate they waited this long for the real GH6
I always wish a Hybrid camera that record RAW internaly, and my options today are Canon R5 ( 2,9K dol to expensive ), GH7 ( 2,2K dol ) and Nikon Z6iii (2,5k dol ) but I think the diference in price between Nikon (a full frame camera ) and Gh7 is to small.
What are you talking about? The G9ii is smaller than the GH6 (which the GH7 is the exact same camera body)... The G9ii is also lighter... The G9ii's dimensions are 134 x 102 x 90 mm and weighs 658 g the GH6s 139 x 100 x 100mm and weighs 823 g
It's pretty much a G9ii with RAW internal recording and a better screen. The extra size and thickness is needed for cooling of 4/6K video. Still small in comparison to what a similar featured FF camera would be.
Thanks for the first look Caleb! 128 GB CF Express Type B card - no thanks, that's barely big enough for 4K all-intra. We run 2TB cards in our GH6 and shoot ProRes or ProRes HQ usually when not going ProRes Raw to an Atomos V. We now run DR boost exclusively on the GH6 with lots of ND as we're running fast Nikkor primes through a Metabones Speedbooster. We somewhat expose to the right but stay out of the very top of the luminance curve and have little problem with noise on the bottom end. GH7's lower ISO with DR boost will be great but we've gotten very good results with the GH6. Yes a GH7 is in our near future; in addition to our GH6 we also have a GH5s and an EVA1 and they match very well in Vlog with multi-camera shoots . We are also a Red shop and were one of the very first Red One owners.
I‘m with you. I love the dual native ISO on my GH5s. This was a downgrade with my GH6. But it‘s the only thing I would miss on a GH7. And it would be the first time I would use the audio extension for 32bit audio.
My biggest regret is selling my GH5, now I have G85 but it's not the same... hopefully one day I will be able to shoot with GH7 :] Thanks for the video and all the best from Tokyo! K
if Panny release a modern GM/GX model with their latest PDAF and silky IBIS, i'd cop that. tbh the GH series is too big for my liking and usecase, but DAYUM the footages do look great.
Random: Lumix stabilization on M43 cameras is better than it is on their full frame cameras. They're not far off but, they just have it more dialed on M43 lol.
I saw that. Wow, congrats 👏 I'll definitely want to upgrade to it later on, but I still love my gh5 . I've been using panasonic cameras since the 90s great brand.
Just get the S5ii. Dual native ISO lets me shoot in almost any environment with virtually no noise. It's auto focus is stella. Full frame open gate 10bit V_LOG ... and cheaper. I got mine NEW off Amazon with the kit lens for £1700. It's a slam dunk, no brainer.
1, Love 32-bit support (24-bit and the constant need to keep an eye on audio levels during shooting is the only thing I HATE in my S5 II compared to my, yes, iPhone 14PM and my Rode Wireless Pro mikes). I REALLY hope 32-bit FP is backported to older cameras like the S5 II; I hate supervising audio and the terrible quality of the sound when it's auto-limited. (But at least it isn't clipped - that's the only positive I can say...) 2, disappointed by the lack of MP4 Lite. I really hope they don't keep it as an S9 exclusive. An 50 Mbps 4k 3:2 fullgate codec would be REALLY useful for some kinds of for example extra-longtime (multi-hour) recordings where the 200 Mbps LongGOP regular videos would just not be feasible. 3, disappointed by the lack of, say, 48p at OG. The hardware would just be sufficient for it, unlike for 60p OG. For 60p, 16.67ms would be needed; however, for 48p, which needs at least 20.83ms and the camera, according to Gerard's test, is capable of 20.34. That is, 48p would JUST be feasible.
It is true that, when you have a camera, of a company, and have invested in lenses, you consider yourself "part of the team." AFTER ALL !! It's time to smile again with the new GH7 (after the sad events, with the unbelievably bad s9) and say: well done Panasonic.
a gh6 with PDAF. I've seen comparisons, and the color from the gh6 out of the box is still better than the new 7, more "delicious". Pro Res Raw? need new 5T SSD and new computer...lol. I'm sure (not) my You Tube viewers will notice on their 4 inch smartphone screens. I think next step for me is FF. but finally a gh5/6 with PDAF. I actually think the DFD in my 6 works pretty good most of the time. but another $2500? I dunno. thanks for the review . do more ps I am disappointed still the CF and SD card combo, would have preferred two V90 slots. owell
This was a fail for GH7. No future proofing for high frame rates. 4K 200 fps or 240 fps should've been a feafure. Icing on the cake would've been good quality 1080P or 2K 960 fps.even if limited to 2 second recording end trigger mode.
Two years and no new features. Just collection of g92 ang gh6. This is gh6 mk2. Every GH generatin got impressive new innovations and resolutions. GH7 not.

So glad I waited for this

No more updates to gh6?
Wow, that's impressive! Lots of improvement!😎🤙
can someone please clarify what 50fps 4:3 Open Gate modes this camera supports?
Proxies at the least? any improvements over the Gh6? or is it just 4.4k with a significant crop?
surely NOT full sensor open gate :( That's capped at 30p, while the sensor would be capable of 48p.
What's the low-light performance / quality of the GH7 vs GH6 and GH5?
When does it release?
What's that big lens you have on it? That beautiful bokeh is from that?

What lenses did you use in this video?
Wonder if there will be any nice trade in deals for the GH6 to upgrade to the GH7
I was hoping for a global shutter and a smaller body.
I have the g9ii and am mostly video centered UA-camr - what do you think? How do they compare?
The look of your video is very beautiful.
Yes I agree with you. Dual ISO would have been awesome.
🤞maybe on the BGh2.

Awesome vid! What lens did you use on GH7 shots?
Amazing video. Thank you. I have a question regarding the 4.4k 4:3 video. Is it a full sensor readout like the 5.8k or is that a cropped? Thank you
From what I’ve seen on another video that mentioned it was open gate
this is the sequel to the gh5 we wanted for sure. god i wish it came out around the same time as s5ii.
