They might wait for later cameras and firmware updates it’s bound to happen I just think they were prioritizing that Arri deal more than anything no other brand has that and I know that was expensive on their end
a CST from their own log to Arri log C will soundly convert the color space. The argument of someone graduating to using an Alexa makes sense, but I think this 320 iso only on Arri log C is a software paywall, albeit a small one. The difference in color science and actual sensor hardware image processing pipeline will still be there.
@DEADIKATED i still have gh5 and i will keep it. My gh7 is better in almost every way but gh5 stays a great camera and its a bit easier to use as it is a bit lighter.
@@andersistbesser yeah I was testing out my gh7 the other day and noticed the difference off the bat but I also got some insane footage the same day with my GH5s

I expect most people "here" are picture oriented and they might not understand the significance of 32-bit float audio. One way to look at it is that in effect, you can set up a recording and never bother changing the "level" during the recording. You can then go back later to convert it to a regular sound track with literally everything well recorded. Previously, the only way to "get everything" without doing adjusting on the fly would be to use an "ALC" or a "limiter". But those approaches don't work optimally. An "ALC" watches the level and adjusts after-the-fact trying to get the "next section" right. An automatic "limiter" can kill dynamics, making things that should be louder sound quieter then they should be. If you have "all the sound" recorded, you can duck the sound in advance and allow a big gain to actually sound big, but without clipping. That sort of adjustment takes judgment and is best left for a human sound man. Properly recorded with 32-bit float you can get all this and everything down to whispers.
Riiiight. Can you name one example where we have so much dynamic range in audio where we would need that?! The only thing I can thing of is if you are plane watching and are close by a landing strip!? Edit: And in 24bit you have enough room to boost a signal in post.
@@michaelkupfer3723this. I’m beyond stoked for 32-bit float, but OP makes it sound like magic lol. 32-bit float doesn’t magically eliminate preamp noise, mic self-noise, or capsule-level clipping-i.e., factors that often limit dynamic range _before_ A/D conversion. That said, 32-bit float is totally a game-changer and worth the upgrade for anyone who wants to record internally.
Is the Christmas tree of attachments on the top connected to the hot shoe or a cage? Not enough light on the subject to verify. I never mount attachments to hotshoe other than flash or shotgun microphone. Anything bigger has potential to snap the hotshoe off unless otherwise specified to withstand a given weight and leverage.
Was wondering the same. I think the monitor here is mounted to a top handle. I saw an older DPR video (with an older LUMIX camera) where Jordan actually had a monitor/recorder mounted on top of the XLR unit with cables dangling all over. Very stupid idea for 2 reasons. The high center of gravity is terrible for hand held use and the XLR1 mount is all plastic. Would snap off with little effort. Panasonic shoud design the XLR accessory so it can be mounted another way and connect to the hot shoe with a cable.
Excited to see the future updates to the EVA and the S1H. If they can figure out how to do internal ND with an L mount EVA and/or S1H that would be amazing.

Happy to see Lumix is still upgrading the GH line. But I'll stick to my GH6... I use manual focus lenses and Davinci resolve which doesn't support pro res raw. The real time lut feature is super cool, but not worth the upgrade for me.
I have the G9II. I will probably not use Pro Res Raw. But if Lumix will offer the $500 extra trade in like they did on the G9II I might get the GH7. I wish this camera would have 2K.
u could theoretically do logc3 in realtime lut (its what i've done and was originally hinted at by lumix themselves) though i presume the logc3 in camera preforms much better as it is working directly with the camera?
yeah there's another interview with another lumix guy, apparently the implementation of the arri log has the sensor mapping middle grey and color based on the arri curve. So if this is true, then the arrilog image should not look the same as the vlog one no matter what color transform lut you apply. unless you tweak the exposure and colors.
i believe the sensor is mapped to arrilog based on the arrilog curve and not vlog, so color tones, and exposure should be captured and preserved different to vlog. so csts and conversion luts won't give you the same results. or at least that's what i'm understanding as i comb youtube for information on this, cause i too am skeptical hahahah. but if arri is involved... they can't possibly be gaslighting us with this $200 LUT. right? hahahah

So now that you don’t need an Atomos device to record Prores Raw, I wonder if BM will decide to support it in Resolve.
We‘re not sure that decision is only down to Blackmagic Design, also Apple as the technology owner.
Only if it supported BRAW internally. This would be the perfect camera.
Thanks for the great review, I'd like to know how is Arri log working in GH7, look forward to your next review.
