@@stephencooper3583honestly they aren't also worth calling movies bruh I'm not saying every movie needs to be oscar worthy type shit but God these "movies" were awful
Morbius is more of an off-again, on-again enemy of Spider-Man, but he's generally been more of an anti-hero, not a super-villain. If anyone could have his own story without involving Spider-Man, it's him.
The only way Kraven could sustain a franchise is if they had started right out with him hunting familiar characters in a crossover of other characters Sony ruined. People hated Morbius, but I can assure you people would’ve been intrigued enough to show up to watch Kraven hunting Morbius in Kraven's first movie, then Venom in his second, and then maybe Spider-Man in Kraven’s last movie depending on how well the first two did. Heck, he may have even decided to team up with Venom at the end of the 2nd movie to hunt Spider-Man in the 3rd movie.
I'm sure all these ideas were discussed in some Sony meeting, but they don't want any Spider-Man franchise, They just don't want the Spider-Man rights back to Disney, which actually wouldn't be a problem if they cared about making good movies. Is it really that difficult to make a good film? They probably realized that Miles Morales movies (which makes a lot of money) take a long time to make, and they only make these villain movies to keep the rights. Wtf I really don't know
Literally could have had him hunting Venom and it would have been more interesting than Venom 3 where Knull is off screen 98% of the time & only has mindless symbiote fighting Venom the entire time.
marketing is trying to make Villains look cool. I think their research of how cult classics evolve have had the opposite effect on them. you can't force cool shit because it just becomes a suburban mom trying to be cool with the kids.

If the news about Sony being able to use Spider-Man is true, then they should bite the bullet bruh. Unlike what they did with Kraven, Morbius, and Madame Web. Because they don't care about those characters. You can tell when you watch them. There's no vision, there's just production.

Fun Fact there was an anti-hero Kraven in the 90s. Sergei’s son Alexei started as a villain following his father’s footsteps, before moving to Hollywood as ‘Al’ with his pet wolf Nickel who he could talk to. This didn’t last forever of course, but Al Kraven was an interesting character at least.
aaron taylor johnson is getting massivley pushed as a leading man lately and its not working (even though i dont think hes a bad actor at all). also people at sony shouldve realized kraven isnt a popular spiderman villain to mainstream audiences at all and a standalone movie had very low chances to do well monetarily even if the movie had been decent
I have no idea if it's true and the Sony leaks from years back might help answer the question one way or another, I haven't looked at them, but in terms of "How does this happen?" I've often wondered if it has something to do with the multi-national nature of Sony. Could it be that with the language barrier and cultural differences between Sony America and Sony Japan that things constantly get misunderstood, redone, etc.?
34:52 Tbh, if Toei can make 50+ episodes of Kamen Rider and then a (albeit tv budget) movie in between and after those long form yearly superhero tv shows. Then it's not just Sony not giving these creatives enough time to make a movie, it's Sony choosing the wrong people for these jobs. Also the wrong characters lol. Anybody good can make a good movie, all Hollywood does is make them more expensive and interfere for no good reason.
They don’t really care that much, even though the movies they make are really bad and have barely any heart or effort put into them they have managed to have success and break even on their horrible movies. The only movie not to make back the budget was Madame Web. They still are technically failures but Venom made them think they were onto something when it is much more likely that Venom was only successful because he’s the most recognisable villian to general audiences. You can have success with an unknown hero or such, Iron Man wasn’t really known but the Iron Man movie kicked off the whole Marvel franchise but then again Iron Man was actually a good movie. I don’t even think for the quality of the movies themselves that it’s really a thing with time but the pressure and interference from a studio like Sony. I think even if they had all the time in the world all they care about is adding things they think audiences want instead of just letting the creatives do their thing. Just look at TASM1 vs TASM2 or even Spider-man 1/2 vs Spider-man 3 in the past the things that happened to make those movies ‘bad’ or not as great as the prior films was the interference of the Studio forcing their own wants into those movies.
In the right hands and with the proper context, Kraven hunting other hunters could work really well. He proves he’s the best at it by beating everyone else. It’s the Most Dangerous Game but the other people are expert players and present a real challenge for him.
Dumb sony couldn't wait to cash in on these characters, sacrificing their time with Spider-Man for mid-bottom movie release that doesn't do the numbers it would if they were up against Spider-Man in their own movie. Such a waste of potential, there was plenty of time to do each of these in a Spider-Man movie, they're kinda ruined now. Which will pit Spider-Man up against the same villains again and again until there all gone.
My one take is that when kraven stopped dmitri from killing rhino thats when he decided to go villain bc he saw kraven saying "this isn't you" the same as his dad thinking he is not strong enough. "Dmitri, i'm the only person that accepts you 100% and i lied and i'm actually strong and kill people and I say a guy like you could not kill your kidnapper" "well then I'm gonna be the kind of guy that would"
I’m personally always gonna say the Sonyverse wasn’t even a universe, cause these things were more disconnected than the DCEU! And I don’t wanna hear from anyone “Well the MCU didn’t start out with a bunch of crossovers before Avengers” because I’m not saying Venom and Morbius should’ve showed up in Kraven and Madame Web, what I AM saying is that if they wanted these movies to be in a shared universe than there should’ve been a number of references to the other movies or set ups for later stuff. Like Iron Man’s post credit scene set up the Avengers, Tony showed up in Incredible Hulk’s post credit scene, we saw a Captain America clock and Thor’s hammer in Iron Man 2, Fury and the Tesseract briefly showed up in Thor which came back around the next movie in Captain America: The First Avenger when Red Skull used the Tesseract and Cap met Fury at the end as well as Black Widow and Hawkeye appearing in Iron Man 2 and Thor respectively, and all of that was followed up in Avengers, even before Avengers this actually felt like a universe where things had happened, were happening in other places at any time, and something else was gonna come up even if it was about a God of Thunder when we were watching a guy in a metal suit. All this universe had (at least as far as I know) was a Venom reference in Morbius, yes Vulture appeared in that movie as well but let’s be real, that’s not getting followed up
14:00. Finally. I've been saying this since Marvel started the trend of side character movies. Not every secondary character needs to have their own movie or show. It’s perfectly okay to remain a side character and contribute to a single narrative or story. Every movie except for Venom has flopped horribly because Spider-Man is the central piece connecting all of these characters. It’s really that simple. We often prioritize fantasy over logic, and while it sometimes works out, other times it doesn’t. Forcing either approach is never a good idea.
Kraven the Hunter was always my least favorite Spider-Man villain. One of my favorite villains / anti-hero was always Morbius the living vampire but of course Sony had to go and ruin that by casting one of the worst individuals imaginable. And yes I'm referring to Jared Leto not because of his version of Joker but the fact that he.... I won't go into detail but just look up anything to do with him and a $ex cult
I’ve heard it said before, but Kraven could have worked if it was about him hunting the other Sony-verse characters like Morbius and Venom, rather than just another generic anti-hero stand alone story
I still find it hilarious how certain folks keep going on with the "MCU is dying/dead because they don't care about their fans!" stuff when Sony puts out trash like this and you somehow can't see that MCU clearly DOES care about its audience compared to Sony.
tl;dr this film is what happens when people who keeps shouting toxic masculinity didn't completely understand nor fully realized what they're trying to tell while being an absolute hypocrite in the very conceptual idea ended up projecting their own toxicity in place for the whole world to see.
My wife loves the actress that played Madame Web. She loved the actress that played Acolyte. She REFUSED to watch even a trailer or clip of that movie or show. And my wife is a person to binge Greys Anatomy, Twilight, Vampire Fiaries and Originals and then restart binging them again. Now my wife will say what I have always said “Someome sat in a board room and shared that idea of a movie and others said ‘yes we are going to make a billion dollars guys’ … wtf” lol. 😂 I have rubbed off on my with pun intended and not intended. Lmao 🤣
The joker movie really shouldn't even be seen as a DC movie. It's like Taxi Driver, but covered in frosting so a dumbed down modern audience wouldn't recoil in horror at the concepts.
Before watching the video, I do want to say that I generally think making villain movies is a smart idea. And the villains they chose, Venom, Morbius, and Kraven, could ALL carry a movie on their own. I don't think they necessarily NEED to carry a movie on their own, but they can. Especially Morbius, who has had MANY solo comics, and whose connection to Spider-Man is practically irrelevant to his origins. But I think they fundamentally misunderstood who any of the characters they were adapting even were. Morbius should have easily been the best film of the bunch, even if all the other movies were genuinely great, so that's saying a lot. The first issue of the 1994 Morbius The Living Vampire series comes to mind as proof of that statement, the one that was a part of the Rise of the Midnight Sons crossover. They did okay with Venom but could've done better. And Kraven... If they were going to completely chnage what the character is and NOT make him a hunter, they still could have done better. But they also could've done a good story if they kept him a hunter. Madame Web is genuinely the only movie and character that I don't understand the reasoning for. I mean, I don't know anything about the character, but even if I did I'm not sure that would change anything. But it does show that Sony only made these movies to draw in fans of the characters and more specifically fans of Spider-Man to make money. They did not care enough to make the movies good. They just fot lucky that three of them were at least halfway decent.
An studio planning being creatively overwhelmed on its own sunk cost fallacy, sadly they will always be number 2 on the crash your multiverse speed running category as well, memes were a hoot though.
Sony is getting so good at hating their audience they forgot to advertise to them. I didn't know this movie existed until hearing about how it failed lmfao
these studios probably do hate their audience, but i think it is more that they are stuck in the pre-streaming days when audiences were forced to go to theaters to watch new content. so back in the day a lot of movies made a lot of money at the box office (and subsequently on vhs/dvd sales) because theaters pretty much had a captured audience and people had to go out to watch new things. so a lot of trash made a lot of money (a lot of trash also lost a lot of money). but now audiences have so many options and have become generally more sophisticated in their media consumption that studios are having a hard time completely adapting (audiences, for example, seem to greatly enjoy tv shows more than most movies outside of big events)
Regarding the subject of LEGACY I feel like the main failing of modern Western civilization is simply this: We have become too obsessed with what people have as opposed to what it is they SHARE with society. We value WEALTH OVER WORTH, money and materialism over character and morality. I've always believed, "What you have is worthless, what you share is PRICELESS." Feel free to steal that one. Most people are too focused on what they can GET, what they can TAKE from this world that they don't spare a thought for the world they will leave behind. Legacy. The world we build is not only for US, it is for our children, grand children and so on. Anonymouse out.
i've never read a Kraven the Hunter comic. So Kraven is just Beastmaster (from the 1980s movie), but as a villain obsessed with stealing the powers of animals and conquering Nature instead of a nature-connected hero with Beastmaster's animal empathy? Kraven in his lust for "the Hunt" should ultimately become animalistic as he loses what distinguished humans from the raw animal psyche: self-control (one of the virtues of Enlightenment). If they wanted Kraven as an anti-hero who solely kills "criminals", he's basically just Dexter; if he hunts "monsters" (vampires etc) he's basically just Edward/Ted Forrester the government-sanctioned assassin for homicidal supernatural creatures from the Anita Blake novels.
@ no problem ☺️I rewatched spiderverse (2018) and timed it where once when miles “saves” the multiverse the clock hit 12:00 AM it was great! perfect movie. Second favorite movie ever 🥉Forrest Gump 🥈Spider-Man into the spider verse (2018) 🥇Back to the Future How’d you celebrate?
The first Venom worked because Sony tried to make a serious horror/action movie, but due to their own incompetence, ended up with a dark buddy comedy that people actually had fun with. In the sequels Sony just went straight for the buddy comedy, but because sony completely failed to understand what made the first one fun, it just ends up being a two hour gauntlet of cringey jokes told by a tom hardy who looks like he'd literally like to be anywhere else.
Not a single movie from this Sony experiment was worth our time in reality. The only one that comes CLOSE is the first Venom movie. Venom 2 was horrible and Venom 3 was bad.

We could have had the solo aunt may origin story movie :’( (real)
It's an infamous comic called Trouble

@turtleanton6539 not to my knowledge. My guess is no writer wants to remind people of it.

Love your vids man, you tell it like it is😂
they only make these spin offs so that they can retain the rights to the spiderman IP
Cant they just make spiderman movies😅😅😅
Helluva way to kick off 2025! I’m here for it 🍿
For people who really care about owning the rights to these individuals, they really don't understand why they're so special.
It's such a shame.
Shit, I’m on my break at work, and immediately clicked on this when I saw it.
Hell yeah.
My one take is that when kraven stopped dmitri from killing rhino thats when he decided to go villain bc he saw kraven saying "this isn't you" the same as his dad thinking he is not strong enough. "Dmitri, i'm the only person that accepts you 100% and i lied and i'm actually strong and kill people and I say a guy like you could not kill your kidnapper" "well then I'm gonna be the kind of guy that would"
7:57 that is a badass line though ngl. (ignoring the rest of the movie)
All this universe had (at least as far as I know) was a Venom reference in Morbius, yes Vulture appeared in that movie as well but let’s be real, that’s not getting followed up
They genuinely think we are bullying and not grateful for good movies, I mean ..
Dont understand how they make amazing animation movie, but sucks so bad making the live action movies.
“Listen to this…. We have a Spider-Man universe BUT GET THIS……. NO F*CKING SPIDER-MAN”
Can't wait for this to hit streaming and what kind of numbers Kraven does
Yep! Very well said.
And venom has his own comics
How those Venom movies made money is beyond me. Tom Hardy looked like he was drunk & bored the whole time.
18:01-18:12 - Thank you! Russell Crowe in his prime would have been a fantastic Kraven!
At this point I would say Sony just wanted to retain the characters rights no matter what
Kraven the Hunter was always my least favorite Spider-Man villain.
After Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven I honestly believe Sony is trolling us.
I’ve heard it said before, but Kraven could have worked if it was about him hunting the other Sony-verse characters like Morbius and Venom, rather than just another generic anti-hero stand alone story
The movie feels more like a Morbius sequel than a Kraven movie.
I didn't even know Sony made this
My wife loves the actress that played Madame Web.
Same company as spiderverse no🗿
Thought sony owned columbia pictures...
Avi arad is the worst he also produced borderlands
I wonder if it was him behind casting a woman in her 50s as a woman in her 20s and a short guy as a tall guy.
An studio planning being creatively overwhelmed on its own sunk cost fallacy, sadly they will always be number 2 on the crash your multiverse speed running category as well, memes were a hoot though.
Sony basically watched Daredevil 2003 and thought we needed more movies in that same style. Keep burning money Sony you're doing great.
“Finally get its shit together.” Sony’s actual take: “We were review bombed, these were good movies people attacked.”
making this movie over 2 hours shows how little they respect their audiences
Let’s face it, Columbia Pictures aka Sony did have a good 100th anniversary and give that the Disney and Warner Bros treatment of bad 2023
Everytime Sony got the itch to make more of these movies they should have just re-released Morbius. Guaranteed hit right there with that Morbius.
Its Morbin' Time.
From zero to negative zero huh? Uhhh.
As an action flick I really don't think this was bad, but if the point was to be "kraven the hunter " then yeah, they missed the mark.
i've never read a Kraven the Hunter comic.
Maybe Sony should never have gotten involved with the movie industry
Sony brought Columbia from Coca Cola in 1988.
@ Well Sony shouldn’t have
Its their revenge for saying to give the rights to Disney
No. They’re not that smart, lol.
I understand Sony not using Holland’s Spider-Man, he’s a Disney Spider-Man, Sony should have used Maguire or Garfield.
Happy new year buddy! Love your videos! Hope you had a great year!
Happy New Year! Really appreciate you saying that.
@ no problem ☺️I rewatched spiderverse (2018) and timed it where once when miles “saves” the multiverse the clock hit 12:00 AM it was great! perfect movie. Second favorite movie ever

“These aren’t bad movies”-some Sony exec
The first Venom worked because Sony tried to make a serious horror/action movie, but due to their own incompetence, ended up with a dark buddy comedy that people actually had fun with. In the sequels Sony just went straight for the buddy comedy, but because sony completely failed to understand what made the first one fun, it just ends up being a two hour gauntlet of cringey jokes told by a tom hardy who looks like he'd literally like to be anywhere else.
Ah! Oh my god, i fell asleep with my phone on and woke up to this video! Waking up to an analytical video is scary.
Helldivers2: "First Time?"
Somewhen someone will do a video (media), showing what all happened when/after Marvel sold Spiderman.
Not a single movie from this Sony experiment was worth our time in reality. The only one that comes CLOSE is the first Venom movie. Venom 2 was horrible and Venom 3 was bad.
Neegan. That's what I think kraven should have taken extreme inspiration from.
The attitude and everything
