Great video. I have a similar swing / issues as your student. My swing looks better on camera already. Please consider posting the rest of the lesson. Would love to see all of it.
great instruction I struggled with this for a long time ever since years ago I heard you need to wind your upper body against your limited hip turn ! wish I would have never heard that of listened to it thanks all the insights !

amazing stuff as usual... II'm guilty of rotating trail hip way too early and locking out the leg so I'll study my video to check if this might apply.. Might explain why I feel like I need to "jump out" in transition..
Great topic and very common mistake when adding trail hip flexion - if you don’t recenter your weight it’s easy to get stuck on the trail leg as you add flexion
This student is a pretty amazing athlete! For having a complete misunderstanding of how the golf club works he's actually managed to force it to do what he thinks it should do and get a pretty good result. I bet this guy excelled at every other sport he ever played, which is why he's most likely passionate about golf - it's probably the only sport he hasn't mastered. He could be really good if he understood how the golf club actually works. The golf club is NOT a "common sense" tool. It doesn't work anything like everyone thinks it does - just look at it - it's completely different from any other tool, so to expect it to work the same as common tools that we know, is just silly. It's not a bat, it's not a stick, it's not a racket ... it's totally and completely unique and it's designed that way for a reason and when it's used properly it's incredibly efficient. If it didn't, we'd have redesigned it long ago, but the golf club's general design hasn't changed in 100s of years so clearly there's no better performing design or engineering and therefore there must be a method of how to use it properly, and there is, but it's not intuitive or common sense, in fact it's completely counter-intuitive which is why few people ever figure it out. I have to add that a hockey stick works nothing like a golf club. The blade of a hockey stick has very little weight but a lot of surface area whereas the head of a golf club is quite heavy in relation to the shaft and has far less surface area which is how and why the golf club works like it does. A hockey stick must be manually manipulated to square up because the blade has more air resistance and/or drag than inertia and a golf club works completely the opposite.
You're completely right, but I'd say that the delivery system is essentially the same in every rotational sport. It is universally weight transfer then rotate, whether it be golf, hockey, baseball, football, even boxing. So I think using the hockey stick to learn the delivery system is not bad at all since the design of the golf club tricks a lot of people into trying to manipulate it more. 😂 These other sports also have intricacies akin to club face control most obvious in say tennis or pitching in baseball but the main delivery system of weight transfer then rotate does not change since that controls the power and path. It seems like most cross over athletes just need to learn club face control and to play on a tilt and then everything else almost falls into place.
Milo, interested of you think weak (or unengaged) glutes are often a big factor in guys struggling with the right hip in back swing. I know it was big problem for me. I knew what I was supposed to be doing etc but the flutes just weren't up to the task until I did bunch of strengthing.
It's not my favorite and often is a sign of un-proper loading, but I'd have to see your swing if I haven't already for further comment. Is there seriously that much slide in the right hip before the arms come down? So , if we are calling this a hip bump towards target.. Its going to be driven by the right hip? (If that is the dominant muscle).. But after the initial sit down..
In Mason's case he was really bumping that hip in his backswing and not centering up properly, so while it may appear like a lot of linear to you, this was all to just get him more stacked up and able to deliver the club more from the inside. For sure, that landing piece and how stack up is crucial.

@@tobywilkes1670 for sure that can play a role. I generally find it’s a combination of things.

Milo, is locking-out the trail knee a problem? I tend to do this.

Your derogatory comment is not helpful. At all 😎
