So I misspoke when I said the water bottle holders work for up to a "30 liter fuel bottle." I meant 30 OUNCES. I'm sorry I didn't catch that in the editing process.
Have these and love them. Absolutely waterproof. Road through a Texas thunderstorm and contents remained bone dry. Downside is it added about 30 minutes to my morning everyday reattaching them because I was taking them inside the motel every night.
Have a question friend I have a 2023 KLR 650 and like the tusk bags but like to get the smaller bags and wonder if the smaller tusk bags would fit there racks for the KLR 650 thanks man, love your videos 😊
SOLD! I was trying to decide between the Tusk Pilot and the $$$$ Kriega OS panniers as I have the Kriega modular system already. This clinches it. I'm a novice motocamper (read that as planning my first attempt this year) and no sense dropping 5x the cost unless I start to channel my inner Charley Boorman.
@@enb3810 Just got back from a 14-day trip around the Great Lakes. As always, the Kriega bags worked perfectly. I didn't get the pannier racks delivered in time to install before the trip so that will be a project for later in the season or next year.
Wish you would show how they go on & off of racks. Do they lock to the racks? Are the mounting plates extra? & how much? Will they fit touratech racks? Thanks.
Really like those bags. Tusk products are really becoming something great. I see myself looking at their brand for more and more products when we do our builds!
I have the the tusk Olympus bags on my AT same as yours just bigger and I enjoy mine as well. I have 2,000 miles with my bags so far and haven’t used the straps, the quick release mounts hold the bags well for me haven’t had any issues
I had the Mosko moto bags and sold them because they where heavier than my alluminum panniers. The mounting plates were the deal. I am going to try these and not add the mountain plates.
FYI, Mosko Moto 35ltr bags with wedge racks and pucks weigh in at 25#, JUST THE BAGS!,and cost around $1000. Two Tusk bags weigh 10#! OF course you know the price of Tusk!😁
I just located a pair for $70 with hardware so I snatched 'em up no questions asked. That's for showing me what they can do. $70 I feel like I got a heck of a bargain. (2022 Pan America Special and I do have the HD panniers, I just don't care to daily ride with them)
I looked at the website, and the company is good at photos but I cannot see if it is a generic (eg GIvi) pannier rack or a Tusk unique rack. I see the website refers to Olympus Pannier Racks. Is this essential?
Hey man. Sorry to be like this but I cannot agree at all. I bought the pilot bags without the metal plate and they really suck. They're hard to install, they have to be adjusted every single time that you change the load, they are hard to get into and they jiggle around unless you spend 5 minutes slowly cinching down every strap.
Helpful and informative review, Ben. Appreciate your experience and recommendations for newer ADVers. I spy a humidor on your desk... full of fine puros?
Dork, I’m a Washington State rider so I’m always wet. I’m concerned that the mud & wet will saturate these non-waterproof exteriors and just be a mess especially over multiple days out. Yes my stuff will be dry inside the inner bags but who wants to deal with soggy outer bags. Thoughts?
Literally sitting in the garage getting them slapped on right, even if I never use them for camping I can fit a weeks worth of groceries in these things, so I can use my bike more often.
Can I run the straps under the seat as opposed to over it? Otherwise it would be uncomfortable for the Mrs. I ride a 2018 v-strom XT with Givi pannier racks.
Hey don’t know if you will see this comment but me just wondering I’m getting into dual sports wondering if you could make a video on KLX230 TW200 and DR200. Which is the best bike and what I can expect out of each bike speed, best on trail, etc ?
@@DorkintheRoad Love your videos I just think a 250yahama or that Honda would be to powerful. I ride a Honda grom it’s a 125 but I don’t know how different the ride feeling is sense it’s a street bike and compared to a dual sport bike. Want something that can get up to 60 or 70 if I need it to but don’t want something that feels to powerful that I can’t control
Nice review. If I didn’t have my Nelson Rigg bags which are very similar. I would consider these. I do find it strange that it has a mounting plate and straps across the seat.
Can you run the straps under the seat as opposed to over it? Otherwise it would be uncomfortable for my sig ofi any other. I have a 2018 v-strom 1000 XT and Givi side racks.
Funny story. I was at a consignment shop here in town. I go for work clothes because who wants to buy new Jean's just to destroy them doing construction. Anyways I thought I found a sweet set of bags for my xt350. I get home to search about how to install it on my bike and I find out that the bags are actually a FRIGGIN trunk organizer for a car 😂 I was mad but laughed later. Only paid 1$ for it. Gave it to my girl for her new car
I think they are really good quality for the money but definitely heavy and a pain on the rear to take on and off the bike, if you use the quick release plate makes it easier but even heavier. I feel you can fit more stuff easier without the waterproof liner but again you are loosing the waterproof capability.
I’m considering buying a cb500x soon, and of course some accessories like bags. With the weight factor, it pretty much is determined what you put inside. As long as it hangs on well, reasonably easy to take on and off, I think that might work for me.
I think you misslead your viewers about the weight of the bags, the main part of it comes from the quick release system. It happens that I own one pair of this bags (without qr) and on my scale they are about 3kg or 6lbs for you imperialist.
They're heavy compared to comparable bags even without the quick release setup. The quick release makes it even heavier by comparison. They're 50 percent heavier than my Giant Loop bags, as an example
@@DorkintheRoad Im talking about the traverse pannier bags, sorry, not the same but even the Tank bags are out of stock as well. Im gonna try and get a tank bag at least for this trip. I have my Backpack but I don't know how well I'll do with one on all day.
The Tusk mount system sucks. Poorly manufactured for fit. I've talked to several others who had the same fit problems. The bags are nice quality but had I known what a pain the rack installation was I wouldn't have purchased. Plus, you have to take them off on my bike (Honda 250CRF Rally) to access the battery. Not looking forward to that day.

What do you think about the nelson rigg hurricane dry bags? Cheaper, and stand alone waterproof without the dry bag inside.
Had mine for a year, good stuff. Only downside is they can pool water in bottom...a plus to the Nelson-Rigg waterproof stuff.

TUSK makes absolute quality #1 products. Yet, at a fair price. Hard to beat. I am also a fan of Saddlemen products.

Certainly nicer than a green duffel with a couple rubber bungee cords. I may have to upgrade.
Great Review. Can't beat Tusk"s product quality vs. price ratio.
I don't disagree
I prefer the rhinowalk bags. Have you tried them?
They might be “heavy” for soft luggage, but they beat the weight of my Givi E41 cases hands down.
There is that
Great video.
How much were the quick connect parts you talked about? I would like to know the total cost of the set up.
Thanks

How do you feel about the tusk soft bags, compared to the GL bags? Weight and capacity...
Tusk bags are good and cheap, but not light. GL bags are good and light, but not cheap.

0:58 Moly as in molybdenum?! Seems like an exotic material to use on panniers...
Not MOLY, it's MOLLE: read about it here:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOLLE
I don't get why they made them with a roll top if they aren't waterproof anyway. Just make it a zipper or flap if you have to still use the dry bag.
I've been trying to decide between the tusk or the Nelson rigg dry bags for my AT.
Helpful and informative review, Ben. Appreciate your experience and recommendations for newer ADVers. I spy a humidor on your desk... full of fine puros?

I added a wax waterproofing safe for leather/fabrics, and that added a LOT of waterproofness to the outer bags.
Hey dork ! I just bought those for my drz400s and i wonder if i should use the heat shield or not
How much of the weight comes from the quick release brackets? Are they much lighter without them?
The plates are about 4 lbs each based on what I saw in other videos.
