I ended up making my own by using screenshots from your video and pulling dimensions by using the mounting bracket as a guide. I already had the hard cases and brackets, just needed to make the plates for my soft bags. Old street signs come in handy! Thanks again.

      Nice! I bet they’re a lot lighter, too 😀

Thanks, this helped me realize I am good with just stapping my bags to the Tusk frame when I need to travel with them. I don't need the extra weight of those brackets.

I slit some clear tubing down the middle and put it over the steel tubing then ran electrical tape around it, very tight at first but now it's broken in and doesn't rattle

Thanks for the video. It was very helpful. BTW you don't need to buy seperate webbing to attach the tops, you can just remove the ends on the main over the top straps and reroute them the way you showed with the ones you bought. They are a bit longer but you can tuck the excess down the back of the bag.

I was surprised you did not mention the weight of the mounting plates! Great idea for the extra support with the extra webbing. - Frank

Nicely detailed installation video. On the fender washers, could you use a felt washer -- they would compress a bit and keep a snug, quiet fit? Looking forward to your review of how the Pilot panniers work for you.

Thanks! I'm not sure I'd use felt washers by themselves, but they should certainly work in conjunction with traditional washers.

Great video, thank you! I bought the Pilot panniers with the rack bundle -- and no mounting plates were included. Their customer service says that they only ship the quick-release that one can install on hardcase panniers... so I guess I'm going to have to DIY and fabricate something of my own. They said I'd have to buy the Olympus bags to get the plates...

@@snowytom I believe I ordered the quick release plates and bags separately. RMATV sometimes switches-up their combos offerings, though. I’ve heard of other people fabricating their own plates, too, which I feel is a good option, since the Tusk plates are unnecessarily heavy.

I just finished installing the Tusk rack and aluminum panniers on my 2023 KLR 650S. I must say that the installation on my Royal Enfield Himalayan was much easier; however, I think the Tusk system is much more rugged and the bags have more capacity.

What are the dimensions for the backing plate? I can't find them anywhere.

  • @rbfokc3470

You could space out the mounting bracket from the plate using washers and that would give you clearance between the rack and the buckles at the top.

    • @MotoTherapy
      @MotoTherapy  6 місяців тому

Except then the quick release pin won’t seat properly.

Use the washers, and there is a know that you install on the back that will eliminate the rattle. You will notice a extra threaded hole on the back of your panier rack

Hi... Clever solutions and glad you're addressing exactly the same problem I'm dealing with. How's that extra webbing holding up? I've duplicated this on my Pilots but I'm not confident the added straps will stay in place. I worry they'll loosen up over time with vibrations and jostling, and would prefer having more confidence

I have a 2023 Kawasaki, 650 KLR adventure and I recently purchased Tusk Olympus Panier bag mount plate, universal Panier rack. Is there a video that explains how to assemble the plates? Remember that this is universal not the regular plate. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't you love that most things you buy don't work as intended and need some sort of fixing or fabricating to make them work?! That being said I really like my tusk pilot bags, I ended up just slinging them over the racks and the quick release plates are still sitting in the box in my garage and will most likely stay there haha.
