  • Full Welding Bed Tour!! The new welding bed build is finally complete. I will be giving you a detailed welding rig tour of this pipeline-style welding bed we just finished up. I will be sharing all the details I can think of, how I made the fenders, what radius I used for the back quarter section, etc. I want to thank all the companies I used to finish up this custom build and pull everything together. Stillwater Steel of Stillwater, OK, Wilkins Truck Chrome of Tonkawa, OK, Titanium Diesel of Blackwell, OK, and LINE-X of Stillwater OK.
Above all thank you to Matthew, my client who trusted me with this project and funded the full build. Thank you for letting me share this with our community and choosing AROSSWELDING.

Love how you take pride in all your work including making your videos. Don’t see many guys take that much pride and the definition of skilled craftsmanship is going out the window in my opinion these days. Keep it up hopefully you continue to inspire and show what it means to be a “true craftsman”!!!

Hoosier is a person from Indiana.
Those gas struts should be flipped end over end. You want the rod on the downhill side because the fluid in them keeps the seals in good condition.
    Nice build man.

If wind is a problem on the back boxes maybe a short bungee strap to keep tension on it when needed, Or you could put threads on both ends of holding rod so a few turns would lock it into place.

Mighty fine well executed project young man. Anyone would be proud to owne it.
I do think it needs a headache rack to protect the cab. I really like the way you locked the tool boxes.
A short story from my dad. He worked as a welder building municipal water towers when i was a baby. The contractor he worked for had all tool boxes made to be locked with a 5/8" bolt and nut. He demanded the bolts to be tightened with 2 - 12" adjustable wrenches. They never had any tools stolen. All of the other contractors were constantly being robbed of their tools. The bolt cutters used to cut off locks could not work on the bolts.

You are absolutely right, slow down and do it correct the first time. Rework is a horrible situation. I ran the oilfield for seven years during the exploration boom in Western CO and N. Dakota. "2006/ 2013" the best welding education, next to Grandpa and tech school, that a person could ask for . I'm currently working the federal arena , DOD / DOS locations overseas... and that old saying still stand today.
You do good work Austin, keep it up.

That's a slick setup, like the Rino Hide look, and the inner fender over the Dually wheel wells. What would be awesome is hydraulic actuated pins to detach the bed and drop-down legs to stand it in place. Then a Flatbed to attached to the truck frame by just backing under it and same pins to secure it to the truck. That would have a Dual useability. Probably use and electric 12volt pump to overate the pins.

Really nice work, nice bed. If I added anything it would be a drop in tray in each of the toolboxes for small stuff I did not want to get lost in the bottom.
I like the simple elegant lock. Not many folks carry an allen wrench on them since they have no idea they would need it and you would need a deep one too.
Another elegant way to make a lock is to make a rectangular pocket to slide a padlock into and place a retainer plate on the backside on the shackle after you install it so it can’t fall out or be removed. Then put a hook hanging down from the lid that catches on the body of the lock itself when its pressed in and locked, but when its opened it does not catch. Almost impossible to break open without total violent entry if you use a quality lock.

Austin, Austin, Austin. You don't understand an Uh Oh until you run over a section of HVAC roof with a 4 ton forklift.
True story from almost 2 years ago. 50 foot sections of duct work we were building and our forklift driver, who by the way is one of the best in our area, accidentally grazed the front corner with the back tire when he was trying to back out and around another section we built. My supervisor and the guys who made the roof were working frantically to fix the cap that was built into it and make it look like nothing happened so we could install it. By the time they were done, we could still see where "something" had happened, but it was so much better than it was... Still thankful I work alongside some great miracle workers... They have done the impossible several times since then for us.

I didn’t realize you were in Oklahoma. I don’t live far from the Stillwater area. I’m not a professional welder just mainly tinker and farm welding. I enjoy the videos though

Boy I do like that lock system it’s slicker then wet ice I might have to try that when I build my own bed I really like that whole set up matching the body lines in the bottom with the cab really took the whole build to a next level I know it was really an extra bit of work but it looks sharp as tacks
